  1. How about the insurance thing? Do all you Klipschers have a special insurance clause for your huge entertainment investments? I know mine system is growing in value so I'm thinking about it.
  2. Eric, I also own the 5700. How do you like it? I was wondering how you got so many CD Players connected to it. Do you just use the AUX inputs on the receiver? Furthermore, I was looking a very long time for AV furniture but couldn't let myself spend so much on the racks like you have. That web site has beautiful AV furniture but no prices. How much did you spend if you don't mind me asking? Lastly, on almost everybody's HT photos, I notice the tons of spaghetti wires running to the TV from the components. Does anyone have a clean method of disguising or hiding the mess of wires so it looks clean to the eye? -User Name
  3. now that's a Wailing system HornEd. Holy Cow. I thought I had a lot of legends (4) but you are a maniac. I'd love to hear it. Do you have special provisions in your homeowners insurance policy to cover all that stuff?
  4. Yes but since I only have one S video input on my TV where would I connect my DVD output from the receiver for example? I would physically have to change the S video cables by hand every time I want to watch a movie right?
  5. Lamp cord is the same as speaker wire?
  6. What is zip cord at the home depot?
  7. What are the consequences of joining two pieces of speaker wire with a wire nut and some electrical tape? Will it matter if the two pieces of speaker wire are different guages?
  8. Does anyone out there have experience with Denon receivers? I own an AVR 5700 and had a question about the TV/DBS output. I have the cable box output into my receiver with S video cable, and then an S video cable from the receiver to my TV. I'm having a problem however. I guess it's more of an inconvenience than a problem I suppose. When I switch sources from TV to CD let's say, the TV picture goes off and now I can use the CD player. Sometimes I like to watch a basketball game or something, but since Bill Walton is in idiot, I'd rather turn on the stereo so I don't have to listen to his dumb ***. Anyway, how can I accomplish watching the TV picture and listening to the CD player at the same time? My TV only has 1 S video input and 1 S video output. I would say that I almost can't use the denon receiver for my TV video source if I want to accomplish this goal. Maybe other people out there have had the same experiences and could give me some pointers. Thanks. User Name
  9. I'm not sure who this real crazy MO is but my guess is that it's the really damaged goods that Return Buy can't sell as operational. The auction layouts look very similar. I bought a pair of KLF10's from return buy and they sound awesome. Fully functional. A broken sopeaker grill and some chipped corners but the sound is all there. So I did a few cosmetic repairs and they work great. Actually I hooked them up last night as my second set of surrounds. I got them cheap, like $135 each. Good luck. If anybody buys from this Real Crazy MO, please let me know how the trasaction went.
  10. Call it a Dennis Miller rant if you wish. It's just another man's opinion. I'm sure he'll have one too when he gets back from driving his monkey around.
  11. Unfortunately, you're not a true home theater/AV enthusiast. Youd know that you are supposed to HEAR the bass and not feel the vibrations. If you read any articles on high end systems and especially bass, you'll always find that fact to be true. Bass shakers are ghetto and from the lack of responses on your thread, you can see nobody else has them either. You're probably one of those people with boxes and boxes of speakers in your car trunk. All it does is make it sound like you have a monkey in the trunk beating a drum. You do it purely for shock and attention, not really caring about the quality of your music.
  12. The term subwoofer is frequently misused. There are many audio systems that use a single passive bass module and refer to it as a subwoofer. If the unit produces directional information, it is not a subwoofer. Bass information is non-directional. Since Bass frequencies are so low you couldn't possibly hear them with your ear. Yo need an ocilliscope. The bass you think you hear is the frequency shaking your wall or floor but it's not a directional sound. And if that IS what your bass is doing, it's not set correctly.
  13. I'm in a similar situation. I want to finish my media cabinet to match my black speakers. Why is everyone painting? Wouldn't stain be a better option? User a dark black stain if you can find it and then a coat of polyurethane finish. If you can't find black stain, perhaps clear stain and a black dye. You can tint it as dark as you want if you did it that way. I'm still looking around for advice too. I think I'm going to go to my local paint store to ask for help. Good luck. -User Name
  14. Bass is a non directional sound. Therefore no matter where you place the subwoofer in the room it will sound the same because the base is non directional. Some people put it in the front soundstage and others in the back, but in actuality they will sound the same. You may ask why some woofers are front facing and others floor facing. Doesn't really matter. With a front main speaker with the base woofer in the actual unit with mids and tweeters (like a KLF30 legend), you may notice a slight difference because you commonly tilt those speakers to the sweet spot. However, when using a subwoofer by itself (no mids and tweeters in the same cabinet), I would put it where you have the most room because the bass will sound the same no matter where it is in the room. 15. I would get rid of the Bose and the JVC. Look into Yamaha or Denon, or Pioneer Elite if you're looking for a cheaper route. Even an Onkyo or Marantz would be better than the JVC.
  16. Cool setup Carl. Don't you get picture distortion on that nice TV with the magnets from the 30's so close? I'd also be worried about that door smacking my surround in the back there. Is that just a closet or something. All in all it sounds awesome. I own the 30's myself and I love them. User Name
  17. That's what I meant by feet, I have the spikes too. I was just wondering. I'll have to try it now. Boa12 you answered every one of my posts in the last 2 days. You are very helpful. Thanks a lot. Have a good weekend everybody.
  18. I don't know if you have the cash but I would suggest a 42"-50" plasma screen TV mounted on the wall over the fireplace, and place the speakers on each side of the fireplace along with your components. That way you can get one of those DVD's that show a fake fire as if you had a fireplace, and then you can make a real fire in your fireplace and have another fire raging on your plasma screen TV. My dad just bought a place with a similar layout and I think that's the route he decided to go with. I think you can probably get a panasonic for under $4,000. The 42"-50" are more in the $8,000-$18,000 that I have seen. With this setup you may have room for the couch and the swivel lounge chairs. This has been my 2 cents. 19. Of all the postings I have seen on this site I haven't seen one about feet so I will ask. I'm assuming most of the Klipsch owners use the threaded speaker feet/rods that screw into the bottoms of floor standing speakers? Maybe my assumption is wrong but that's why I'm asking it here. Can anyone tell the sound difference between speakers that rest on the floor and speakers that rest above the floor because of the threaded feet in use? If so what is your opinion? My KLF 30's sound awesome right now and I haven't taken the time to install the feet yet. So I was just wondering before I upset my setup to install the feet, I'd like to hear your opinions. Will I hear a dramatic difference? How many inches should be between the floor and the bottom of the cabinet? I will also be moving soon to a home with wooden floors, so I'm a little more worried about the speakers tilting with only 4 points of contact on my wooden floors, the carpet I have now makes me feel a little safer. Thanks and Happy New Year! User Name
  20. Forgive my ignorance, but where does one get preamps and external amps and installation instructions with the current receiver that runs currently in 5.1 mode? This thing is a beast probably close to 50 lbs, and I can't imagine adding more power. Your theater must look like an electronics store. Anyway back to the point. You always see receivers and DVD players, and home theater in all sorts of stores but where the heck do you buy external amps and preamps? Will that 6.1 or 7.1 and 8.1 help my sound currently if I'm still only watching my 5.1 DVDs bought at your average Best Buy? It's good to have all that power and setup, and more I'm sure, but what is the real benefit unless media is going to start recording home DVD's in 6.1 or greater? THX has been around a long time but why aren't more THX feature films being produced? Once again I'm sorry if my inquiries seem trivial to you pros out there, but as you can see by my posting numbers, I guess you could say I'm a wiring virgin. My idea was one receiver and some kick *** Klipsh speakers. I've never dealt with preamps, and external amps, and seperates, and never knew anyone who has, ubt if it's going to get me the 6.1 and beyond, I'm still very interested in how to do it. Setup: KLF30 Legends in front KLFC7 in center KSW12 sub KSP S6 surrounds KLF10 as surrounds (sound tested, but still need to run speaker wire through walls) Denon AVR 5700 receiver.
  21. That's a ton of sound. 6 boxes wow. Will you use em all or do you sell them or something? Good luck with your projects.
  22. Very little programming is even THX broadcasted. Furthermore you have to look high and far to find any DVD's that are THX. I've only got 1 THX DVD. This receiver seems to be way ahead of what the movie and tv companies want to produce as mass media to us the consumer. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to make a DTS or 5.1 movie or DVD than it is THX.
  23. I have a C7 and why are so many people using them as surrounds for 6.1? Wouldn't another KSP S6 or S5 or even bookshelfs serve as a better unit? I thought the C7 was specifically made to pick up voice and conversation in the center channel when using 5.1 or even dolby if you are using older systems. Maybe I'm wrong but let me know how that turns out for the sounds. What do you do for mounting? Place it on a speaker stand behind your couch? Furthermore I have a 6.1 Denon AVR5700 but where in the world are you guys putting all these speaker wires on revceiver terminals? I have terminals for 1 set of mains, 1 center, and A/B surrounds so I can have 4 rear speakers if needed. My receiver even has 8.1 availability. My question is, where would I put my rear center if I were using 6.1 let's say? All my terminals on the receiver are filled with existing speaker wire. Would I wire my 6.1 center rear on the same terminal as my rear KSP S6? I use 12 guage wire so that's going to be pretty much an impossible task. I'm just curious on how people do it. Down the line I was actually thinking of putting side speakers as well, like a theater, but I have no more room on the back of my receiver. If anyone knows, I'd appreciate a brief explanation or even a sample setup somewhere (text or image or web site?) Thanks.
  24. If it's a good quality speaker cabinet you obviously used oak to match your current speakers right? So just finish the boxes with some black laquer (found in any home depot) and apply a coat of polyurethane and be done with it. The problem with using formica is that over time the vibration will loosen the edges and you will get noise you don't want. What wood did you build them with that you want grain matches? Plywood? MDF? Pine?
  25. Does anyone have any deals on a set of KLF-10 Speaker Grills? The Speakers sound great but the grills have broken prongs. A new Set will cost around $75 + shipping so I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in selling a set cheaper? Thanks.
