  1. I don't think folks are going to be getting rid of their Denon DVD Players yet--Am I right that the HD or Blueray players don't plays DVD-A and SACD's? [:^)]
  2. Welcome to the forum rimwich.[] It will send a matrixed surround mix from your side surrounds to the rear speakers on 5.1 material--not officially 7.1, but you can use your rear speakers.
  3. I am humbled by some of your experiences. [] I also have lived a unique life. I may share some of what I have actually done later. The earliest experience I remember is living outside of Istanbul Turkey as a 4 year old during the Cuban Missile Crisis. I remember the commotion and that for some reason we were packing and about to leave immediately. My father passed away over 20 years ago and there are questions I wished I could have asked him about why he/we were there. [:^)] I have had several brush's with greatness. In 1972 we lived in Bad Godesberg, Germany (Dad worked at the Embassy in Bonn) and my American Little League All-Star team had the honor of visiting with Johnny Bench, Bob Gibson and John Wooden on a personal basis for a few hours. FWIW, we came in 3rd that year to the Weisbaden AFB, who came to the US and beat the American regional teams, only to get beat by Taiwan in the Little League World Series. That was the year of the Munich Olympic Massacre and the year we returned stateside. During our stay in Germany I remember some surreal experiences walking my dog at night and watching the Secret Service take up positions along the route President Nixon was going to take to meet with European Leaders (We lived one street over from a huge field near the Rhine River where dignitaries landed by Helicopter). Nixon came two times while we lived there. On one of these occasions several kids in the other sixth grade class got to shake his hand. My Class didn't get a chance to meet him because as we were walking out, David H pushed Denise H. in the water puddle and Mr. Gangler took us back to the class room. [] I saw Henry Kissinger's Helicopter/motorcade several times as well. In Texas, I got to shake Bono's hand and see my girlfriend give him a big hug in the lobby of the hotel we both were staying in. I said "Thanks for the Music," and he replied "Thank You." I will never forget that moment. [] On a visit to New York I had my picture taken on top of the World Trade Center (unfortunately it's not in the digital domain). On that trip I was hanging outside of the Ed Sullivan Theater and had someone come up behind me and tap me on the shoulder so he could go into the backdoor. Everyone was pre-occupied watching a limo pull up and didn't notice the guy sneak up behind us--As he was walking in I couldn't help but think, "hey that guy looks like..." and that is when someone yelled "It's Robin Williams!" My last brush with greatness came this summer in Hope. I saw a movie star that I recgnized but would be embarrassed to mention his name because of the banable material involved--All I can say is that he and that other fellow were really good actors, but not really my cup of tea.{edit: I missed the first several pages [:$]--I see he has already posted.}
  4. I don't even know what "Sea Ray" is. [:^)]
  5. Curious breed, those hands-on creative people.[] Yep--It's not like God doesn't have enough on his plate right now to worry about you 2 guys getting together. []
  6. I subscribe to the Denon DVD 3910 Owners thread over there and don't see the mass exodus as of yet. [] I appreciate the review and look forward to the comparison myself.
  7. I wonder if they have already shipped the 60th Anniversary K-Horn to Europe. I didn't see a picture on Werner's Website. Has anyone seen one displayed for retail? [:^)]
  8. Welcome to the Forum StarFlyer59. IMHO, that KSF-C5 is worth the $85 alone. It may be semi-overwhelming with the KSB 1.1's but if you adjust the gain down, should work fine until you upgrade and move the KsB 1.1's to surround duty. I used the KSF-C5 as my first center channel, along with the KSB 3.1's as mains and I swore that would be the last Home Theater I would ever own. Check out the Lobby scene in The Matrix on that bad boy and stand back. [] Congratulations for opening the door to sonic bliss. []
  9. I have a Denon DVD 3910 and if what you say is true I may have upgrade. I will have to see it with my on eyes before making the purchase. [H]
  10. I think this is where HD is going: "Cable and satellite TV providers vow to increase their offerings. Other new providers may deliver movies in high-definition to computerlike set-top boxes using the Internet."--Consumer Reports There are a considerable number of Movie Directors that don't necessarily want the clarity that HD can offer. I also feel the movies made prior to being filmed in HD won't look exponentially clearer than already upconverted from DVD's. IMO, Live Events will benefit most from HD technology and Movies will be a mixed bag as described in the article.
  11. By No Means does 2-Channel Gag me! I love and appreciate the creative inspiration that goes into all aspects of the Art (and appreciating the Art) of Music. If I had to equate it to something it may be how I feel about Pizza. If I am at home I ALWAYS prefer Pepperoni. If I am out and someone offers me a Hamburger and Mushroom slice, I can enjoy that equally as well. [] I didn't mean to hijack this thread and will respectfully step out. [au]
  12. WHY? [:^)] Given the lack of sales of speakers he designed it would appear that historic video would be an excellent vehicle to distribute to keep Hope Alive. []
  13. Yep! I love to offend the forum police. [H]
  14. I thought two things reading through this entire thread: This debate is between those of you that FEEL and those of you that THINK. There doesn't appear to be a consensus on which camp either side belongs. [:^)] 2) All of you have an El Camino either in the driveway or stored in the garage. In the words of a fellow Arkansan, "Go Baby." Go straight to the Multi-channel audio store! [au] I normally don't post in two channel but I enjoy reading your posts and listening to your gear--My recommendation to you folks that have more than 2 speakers hooked up to your rig: 1) Go get your Vinyl or CD copy of "Speaking in Tongues" by the Talking heads or "Electric Warrior" by T-rex and enjoy it for the last time. 2 ) Then go get the multi-channel version of the same Albums. 3) Sit back and enjoy sonic bliss as you reminisce about the ole El Camino days. [A] {Of course all of the above was said with not only a [], but also a [], given the stagnancy of multi channel music today}
  15. Yep. It's more cool than scary for me. I love travel and seeing pics of Creative Holy Ground that I've visited always brings back memories and triggers Imagination. I thought johnyholiday was just your average forum member--It appears there is more than meets the eye... C'mon jh--Where did you get these cool photos?
  16. I was there for one of those discussions and I didn't pursue it any further. Lack of Marketing or Dealers lack of interest aside, Imo, the K-horn IS a LEGEND IN SOUND. It's not the speaker's fault that NONE of the 60th Anniversary Flagships are going to be sold in the country of origin. I think there are legitimate reasons why the Heritage Line is not selling well over here. Cost and size are two of the main drawbacks in the Home Theater era of Home Entertainment. That being said, the average German home is smaller than ours and their dealers appear to be purchasing Heritage to sell...[:^)] What I find discouraging is that with the closing of Ultimate Electronics, I don't have a local Klipsch dealer to browse and recommend to folks. The good news for Klipsch is that a few have ended up going to Bestbuy and buying Synergy. I guess there's nothing wrong with that. Insofar as advertising being expensive (especially in larger markets), I agree. That is exactly why independent Klipsch dealers need to use the Internet to their advantage and create imaginative web pages to coax people to their location. Web Pages are cheap. In The Box idea: The first thing I would do is change the individual hyperlinks on the "find dealer" locator on this site to where you go to a page on their site. On this page, the dealer/store has something along the lines of what Herr Enge has on several of his pages--local personality enjoying Klipsch! If they don't have a local personality they can hire some forum members for a photo shoot. [] This of course brings up the scenario that they have to have the merchandise in the first place. Anyhoo, If you have a link to an effective Klipsch Boutique please post. []
  17. I don't quite understand the prose along with the pictures but you have some interesting shots there johnyholiday. I recognized the ones that are in the book but where did the other ones come from?
  18. It's not my "ball game" either but I expressed why I am concerned. [] I don't necessarily think Klipsch marketing is entirely at fault. The brochures I picked up at Hope this year looked very professional. Where are the dealers that carry the brochures and the things inside for audition? How are they getting their name and Klipsch out to their individual markets? Where are the Werner Enge's of the United States? IMO, Klipsch deserves to be better represented by the dealers. Here is a link to my local Klipsch Reference/Heritage (doesn't list the THX line on Klipsch.com, although they have *some) Dealer: http://www.star-power.com They have a very nice store. I was there last week. The only Klipsch speakers they had set up were a pair of RF-63's in one room and a *mismatched THX HT set-up (The LCR and subs were Klipsch--the surrounds were not and it was obvious) in another. I found their store on the Klipsch web site, yet IMHO, they weren't ready to market Klipsch speakers. Here is a link to the Klipsch dealer who is 5 miles away from Star Power and supposedly has the WHOLE Klipsch line: http://www.topcommunications.net/ When you go to their site it has one hyperlink to the Klipsch web site. There is a mention of Klipsch on the "Company Partners" page, but it is the only one without a Hyperlink (which is I'm sure an oversight). I have been in that store 3 times and they indeed have some Klipsch speakers, unfortunately I wasn't able to audition them ANY of the times I was there. [:S] I admit I don't know all of the logistics of the speaker business. For all I know these stores are racking up record sales for Klipsch. I can't imagine they are selling more than Werner and I'm sure no where near as excited. It is somewhat troubling because after all the United States IS The Home of Klipsch. [Y]
  19. Klipsch may have problems in their marketing department (or they may be selling as many speakers as they wish, I don't know) but what's to stop the individual dealers from getting creative with their business? If Herr Werner Enge was within a couple hours drive of me I darn sure would be paying him a visit. Heck, I still may pay him a visit. []
  20. I don't want to pre-judge the premise of why I posted this, but for the life of me I can't understand why more Klipsch dealers here in the United States don't have a web presence as our good friend (I know I would like to visit his store) in Germany. It's extremely cheap and effective. Sometimes I get so obsessed with Klipsch selling more of it's higher end speakers. [:^)] I think it stems from my love of the sonic bliss I experience in my Klipsch Home Theater and the frustration that I am more excited about it than the folks I try to purchase from. I even posted a thread begging a local merchant to contact me--no takers. [:|] Does anyone have a link to a dealer here in the united states that seems geared to move or showcase Klipsch speakers other than Bestbuy? Imo, someone in the Marketing department needs to get some of that creative spirit and pass it on to the dealers. I wonder if Damonpayne needs the extra income...[] Please post some creative links to Klipsch dealers so I can change my opinion. []
  21. Does anyone have a link to a Klipsch dealer in the United States who seems like he is more excited about the product and wanting to share his Klipsch Experience through Commerce than this Gentleman? [Y] http://www.klipsch-direct.de/werner-enge.html I wonder if he is the guy that you need to know to get one of those 60th Anniversary K-horns. [H] Do we have anyone on the forum who has purchased from him? Sprechen sie English? []
  22. No doubt! [:^)] If that's not priced to sell... {edit: Whew! I am over it now but I was about ready to swing a deal with some local folks who would want to split that HT up. [au] That RC-64 has me intriqued and I am sure I could find a place for the RS-62's.[H]}
  23. There appears to be a lot of generalities being thrown around in this thread concerncering a long standing debate. I try not to get involved because as folks have pointed out--It's an individual preference kind-of-thing. I feel first of all, room limitations and advantages can make or break either speaker set-up. {Sidenote so I don't have to post in another thread with another long standing debate []: I have yet to hear a 2 channel set-up playing Vinyl or cd's, compare to my system playing well recorded multi channel source material. That's not to say that the 2-channel rigs in Indy this year didn't ROCK!} My opinion of multi-channel setups that I have heard are that some may prefer an all Cornwall system over an all upper end reference system, especially if using WDST as surrounds. I prefer my Atypical Reference system over an all Cornwall set up, but I can see why there are various opinions. IMHO, The smaller Heresy in a 5.1 set up could not compete with the RF-7/RC-7/RB-75 multi-channel set-up. I don't necessarily care for the sound of the Heresies but I have not heard them paired with anything else except other Heresies. They may work well as surrounds with either the Cornwalls or LaScalas--They just wouldn't be in my Dream Theater. When it comes to pure aesthetics and sound I feel the LaScalas with a sub would be hard to beat in the Klipsch line. I have not heard the KHORNS in a Home Theater setup. My conclusion in general and why I have my current setup and don't plan on any major changes--The footprint of the upper end reference line gives you a better bang for your buck if you are limited in space and/or funds. Buying a Heritage multi-channel system that can compete with my/an Atypical Reference set-up would cost at least twice as much (and that is being generous) but wouldn't be exponentially better than what I have now. If I had room and funds for an All Lascala system then I would be on the other side of the debate. [A]
  24. Unfortunately, experimentation is required to find the exact best set up. Good Luck.
  25. In a 7.1 configuration you more than likely would put your SB-3's in the back, close together and use your ss-3's as side surrounds. The Bookshelf speakers will give you a more direct sound. This is the way that THX recommends. []
