  1. They are a Home Audio store that have been there forever. They are even mentioned in the "Paul Klipsch Biography." I used to work a few doors down and bought my first stereo system from them 25 years ago. I have heard from friends that their pricing is high, but they have good customer service from what I understand. They should have the Reference line in stock, but I am not for sure. When I went there over a month ago, they had the THX system setup, but weren't able to demo it (that has been a running theme in my life as of lately.) If I were you I would call around to non local authorized Klipsch dealers (from the Klipsch website) to find out how much you could get the RC-7 for and then use that price to negotiate what you are willing to pay for it at Custom Audio. Insofar as separates--I don't know what they carry. I did see they had upper end Denons (i.e. AVR 5805) BTW: Welcome to the Forum
  2. Custom Audio on Rodney Paraham is a Klipsch authorized dealer
  3. Welcome to the forum Taylor99ss. Don't let some of the regulars get to ya. That Cherry is a real nice color and you may get used to it. If not ask again how to change the color, but don't let on that it's a pair of RF-7's. I also think a thread intitled "Will trade Cherry RF-7's for Black" could get a favorable response. May I ask why you want Black? Isn't your RC-25's and RS-35 cherry colored? If not, that may be the reason. If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase your RF-7's? Was it Ultimate Electronics before they closed?

Even better have one store they operate which has every model the want to sell set up like it should be, at least their would be somewhere you know you could go. If you were going to spend thousands it would not be to crazy to make a trip to be sure what model/finish you may want. ---------------- I'm with you on this one for the most part. Being a fan of the upper end Reference line I have an opinion why the THX line isn't being displayed along with them, but that is one of those "IMHO" deals. I feel insofar as the Heritage line is concerned, it would be hard to stock alot of stores with those models, given what the majority of the public is asking for. Most of the Heritage line are beautiful handcrafted works of art that I would like to have in my house at some point (personally considering the LaScalas). That being said, I like the idea of Internet sales on these products. {oops--here I go contradicting myself, but then again, I am not "most people"} Cut out the middleman and give the fans the discount. This weekend I am fortunate enough to be invited to a listening party with all Cornwalls (and evidently the afore mentioned SVS's;-). If I come home wanting those speakers I would gladly call Klipsch and place my order. When they asked me where I heard about their product I would say I heard them at Jeff's house and I was extremely impressed. Unbeknownst to me they would give Jeff some kind of credit toward more purchases and I would be dealing with the company direct. Just another thought...

I live in an area that has private police patrol as well. 24/7 I also know not everyone has this luxury too. Again, just a thought.. ---------------- Well, you live in an area where the target audience resides I still wonder about comfort level of most folks that would buy this way. It's one thing to buy cosmetics or soap from a home distributor--It's another thing to buy over a thousand (and in more cases several thousand) dollars of audio equipment. Still interesting though.

Not to bring up SVS but,.....SVS has incredible loyalty, and you can't even see them in a store.. I know people demo them as well. ---------------- Yeah, but basically we are talking about 1 (maybe 2) components that are for 80 Hz and below. Those frequencies we all hear (or feel) pretty much the same way. The rest of the sound spectrum involves both woofers and tweeters and how peoples hearing (and mind) process that material. That along with the number of speakers you would be buying (or selling) changes the model and comfort level of folks that are willing to buy this way, IMO. I still think it's an intriguing idea. I wrote earlier in this thread about the situation with the THX dealer who had the set up in his house. I would like to go back there a second time to bring another disk (which he auditioned the DTS promo disk of--wrote about it in another thread) to see how it sounds. I don't really feel comfortable going back in this situation. He may not want me back. However if it were a store situation I would do it in a heart beat! This brings up the prospect about security of your home and legally who you would have to let in and what you would do about the folks you felt uncomfortable about letting in.
  7. When Trey mentioned "the farm house" at the edge of the woods, I was wondering if camping would be an option? I'd love to pull out the ole North Face
  8. The Klipsch supporters who went to the Pilgrimage are very admirable people indeed, but don't be so sure they didn't want us talking about it outside of this forum.

Reference level on an older Yamaha receiver I used to use was at -23, and I watched most DVDs around -38 or so. On my Denon 3803 that I use with seperate amps reference level is at 0, and I watch DVDs around -15. The numbers are different but it's still the same dB level. ---------------- I don't think we are saying anything different. But to confirm, I was responding to his concerns about what level HE listens to material and my first hand observations of the differences from going from a Yamaha to a Denon. When I said: "I was using that as A REFERENCE POINT in comparison to the Yammis which go down to "0." I was talking about relative difference in receivers--not any standards set by Dolby or THX.

I imagine it's somewhere between "deaf" and "really deaf." I am with you. I am never going there. {edit: I was using that as a reference point in comparison to the Yammis which go down to "0" if I remember correctly}
  13. FYI: The Denon's go past "0" to +10 to + 15.
  14. Jeff, Thanks for having this Event at your house. I look forward to it and will post on the "DFW hornheads" when I will make my appearance.

The volume control and dB level on the Denon is different than on the Yamaha. When I cranked up my Yamaha at higher volume it did sound too loud (bright) so I was reluctant to move it that high. I have 3 denons (3803/3805/4802R). When I first switched them out, I too was nervous about raising the volume past a certain point (compared with the Yammi) because I thought I was going to damage something. That being said, in my large room with the 3803 I have played movies at-6 and it sounded great. My 4802R is in a smaller room and I play movies usually around-16 to-20 and it hits reference level. When I am really rocking I can play it down to-12 with no problem (I still get nervous louder than that). When I auditioned the THX line on a Denon 5805 they had the volume set at "0" and he said that was reference level. I was surprised because it wasn't any louder than I listen to my system. I guess that was the difference in sensitivity of the speakers. Bottom line--I don't think anything is wrong with your 3803 and you could play it at higher dB levels without any problems.

The dealer who had the setup in his home (no store front) would only have to sell 2 THX systems a month to make his mortgage payment and I am guessing have quite a bit left over.....Hmmmm.

  18. Welcome to the forum, I am running a similar set up at my business with the 3803 only with the KLF-20's and RS-3's as surrounds. It is a 1600 sq. ft. room and both Dolby and DTS sound great. I haven't noticed what you mentioned but will take I-Robot to work and see what I think.
  19. ---------------- On 7/26/2005 9:34:28 AM IndyKlipschFan wrote: So I go back to my original question? If you had a person with Heritage in their house.. And you both could arrange a time to demo them, would you go to listen say in Indy? How comfortable would you be to order from him and get it some weeks later since he would not stock it in his house but make it available to you as well? ---------------- I am speaking purely for myself because I thought the same thing with a mix of Reference, Heritage and THX. Where I am coming from is my original thoughts when posting this thread. I was upset because I went to 4 dealers in my area which had multiple lines of Klipsch speakers (as per the website) only to go there to find they only stocked one line, or didn't have the speakers hooked up to listen. That was the case in all 4 places I went. In fact I am not sure they had the stock other than the floor models. The first place I went was the scenario you mentioned, only with the THX line of speakers. It was at a persons house in a residential area. To be honest I felt uncomfortable going in a strangers house to audition speakers. In fact I joined the "DFW Hornheads" to be able to audition the Heritage line, and still feel a little uncomfortable going to a persons house to audition speakers, which I will be doing sometime in the next couple of weeks. I understand where you are coming from with your question. That being said, none of the other 3 "dealers" I went to had a {edit:Klipsch}HT system up and running and all said they could order any speaker I wanted. Two of the dealers I called and asked, "Do you have the THX system set up?" Both answered yes. after driving both times an hour from my house only to find that, yes they had them set up, but no I couldn't audition them because of various problems, blew my mind. IMHO, there is a reason that they don't want the RF-7's and the THX line auditioned together although I would like to hear that A/B test (with towers all of the way around instead of the RS-7's) Trey said at the Pilgrimage that he thought there was going to be a resurgence in "two channel" listening. I don't buy it. I was impressed with the LaScala set up we heard, but I think I am in a minority insofar as people that would even consider those for home theater, with what is out there today. To end with the Klipsch "dealer" who is closest to me has a pair of RF-7's and a pair of RF-5's both in hooked up to multi channel Denons but in a stereo configuration. The guy was extremely nice and my parting comment to him was that I really wish he could set these up in a HT format because they are excellent home theater speakers and would sound real impressive to a potential buyer. I also told him that I have 3 setups (one in a commercial location) that I would gladly demo for anyone that is interested--Needless to say I think he took it as a backhanded gesture (and with my frustration it may well have been) Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

I like my Denon because I can use both (RF-3/RS-7) for movies. The RF-3's ROCK for music. When I switched my rear speakers from the RS-7's to the RB-75's it was more of a sideways move, although on some music sources it sounds better. If size is an issue and you can find a pair of RB-5's for surround duty I don't think you could go wrong. If you could find a pair of RF-3's and size isn't an issue, even better IMHO.
