  1. Thanks for compliments guys. Internal dimension are right at 4cf like RF7 according to my Jethro Bodein (sp???) math.
  2. Size is 43.75h x 16.5w-at front and 14.75 d. 8" wide-7 back. Very heavy!
  3. In the middle of this project. Just about to get to finishing stage. A few pics of how I got to where I am now. Using aircraft grade wood backed cherry veneer on sides and motor board with solid 3/4" cherry on top and side trim. 1.25" thick motor board (3/4" mdf and 1/2" ply). Lots of glue. More later.
  4. Thanks DJK. These woofers look pretty close in SPL to the Silver flutes - did you lower the taps on your mid and tweeter with the SF's? Thanks.
  5. DJK, How would the Parts express 299-344 8" woofer perform in your PPSL Belle or Lascala setup? Here's a link. Thanks. http://www.parts-express.com/cs8-3-28-8-coated-paper-cone-woofer-4-ohm--299-344
  6. I've got some 1.25" plywood that I'm dying to try out on LS or Belles. Hope I can move them during the build. Probably only use on the bottoms.

Haven't had time to build a set.
  8. WOWSERS DJK!!! Cool project. Looks like width is wider than LS?? Now you've started me thinking! Are you going to use K-33 woofer? Share any info you can. Great project as always.
  9. Bacek, what brand of bendable ply did you use? It appears to be 1/2" with several plys. I've used 3/8" ply on some wooden horns but it only has 3 plys. Do you have the brand name? Thanks.
  10. Some people recommend a filler for oak since it has a porous uneven grain but that is a personal decision. Amen on handsanding. If it is Klipsch installed veneer the oak is actually pretty thick. I just sanded down some oak Heresys to reveneer and hit them hard with 80 grit random orbit sanding and they stood up pretty well. If it is aftermarket veneer then it may be much thinner. An easy method I use is Minwax wipe on poly after the stain has dried thoroughly. Is hard to screw up. I get some white terry cloth/foam stain sponges from Harbor Freight, $ 10 poly from Wal-Mart, and use about 6 thin coats with fine grill sanding between finishing with 600 to 1000 grit. You can always touch up with more poly if it scratches.
  11. Thanks guys. I cut the 1/2" overhang around the motor board on table saw with a hair less than3/8" fence setting (plus 1/8" for blade width) and then sounded flat. I originally cut 3/4" square channels around front board and top and bottom to insert solid wood overlapping the veneer but my buddy changed his mind and wanted full width veneer so I started over. I'll have to check out the caps you guys reference. I'm one hour from Sonicap HQ (Hot Springs) and Bob Crites (Russellville so Sonicaps are easy to get. Jimbo, I just finished a set of Heresys in bigger box with bigger horn and K-79 tweeters (really not a a Heresy after that) and am shipping them to Chicago next week. Shipping isn't that bad.
  12. Redoing a set of 1975 Heresys for a buddy. Had oak veneer cabinet but changing that to fiddleback anigre. Installed some bracing inside (there was none as you know) and will build up thickness of back by adding 1/4" ply (only 1/2" ply). All speakers work fine and sound surprisingly good. Recapping the crossover with Sonicaps. Pic is with paint thinner on veneer to show grain. Will veneer the motor board as well. Will stain honey brown (a little darker than shown).
  13. Thanks Dave. What mods did you make to the xover if you don't mind sharing? Thanks.
  14. Ellis, I've heard good things about the DH1A. May pull the trigger on those or the ND6X .
  15. AVGUY - I picked these up from ACM on Sunday. Gonna use the horns in a LS project. My buddy got the turntable and receiver since he can fix those. Good to see someone on the forum from my hometown!!!
  16. Has anyone tried the EV ND6X? I've got access to some and they look like they would work 500Hz up. Supposed to sound great. Anyone ever used these? DJK probably knows all about them!
  17. Thanks Reference Head. Here are a few more pics. Sorry some are blurry - taken in my garage at night! On the next project now - reveneering and recapping 1975 Heresy for a buddy. Probably going with fiddleback anigre on this one.
  18. I'm in Little Rock and would like to pick these up. Please pm me. Thanks
  19. I'm sure they sound great. I've followed Claude's post and he certainly knows big wood from kindlin. Love his projects.
  20. Finally got them finished last night. Sound sweeeet!
  21. Amen brother!! Preach on!! I tell my wife all the time that a lot of questions in life are answered by saying "People are stupid!"
  22. Last night I finished redoing (???), rebuilding (???), modding????) ----- doing something to a set of Heresys. I built a new larger ported cabinet, changed the mid horn to an 8 x 12" parts express horn, changed the K-77 to K-79 tweeter with titanium diaphragms, mounted all speakers from the front, recapped the E2 crossover with Sonicraft caps, and split the E2 crossover for biwiring (it can be changed back easily). The bass is much better (cabinet is 40H x 15W x 12D" deep). magnets on the grill frames. Extensive bracing inside. The mids really seem to be more open and the dispersion is much better to my ear. I replaced all wiring with 12 gauge copper and added mortite rope caulk to K-22 woofer outside spokes and back of PE horn. So I feel like Darth Vader - ("he's more machine than man now!!") I'm not sure just what the speaker should be called. But it does sound nice! My gosh - I've created a monster!!
  23. I'm going to try it on my hair. It may be good for coloring recessed speaker cutouts. You can wear out a sharpie in a heartbeat
  24. Thanks for the info. I knew you had modded the CF4. I haven't tried the silicone mod - been using mortite puddy on horns and outside of struts on woofers.
  25. Bump, still need one K-28E in good condition to match the one I have. Thanks.
