A local Albany, NY Klipsch authorized dealer placed a full page ad last week with 6 of the best speakers from around the world that they had for sale. One was the Klipschorn which was pictured along with 5 other speakers from other countries. While the dealer did not have them on display he said they were $6000 for the pair. Several glowing reviews of the new klipschorns have shown up in AudioReview.com. Klipsch must be producing theml Comments anyone?

The 1050 is very very good on music. If you use Heritage speakers, a good stereo tube preamp into the direct inputs of the 1050 will produce a truly excellent sound. Great on DVDs. PLII is good if you have a lot of old VHS movies. Otherwise, you don't need it if you're playing CDs, SACDs and DVDs. The 1050 can't be matched in sound quality with anything under $1000 IMHO.

I used Medium Density Fiberboard panels to extend one wall across a solid wood door for one corner. Interestingly, still works fine with door slightly open.

I am 60. I began purchasing Heritage Speakers several years ago. I have two Home Theater Music set-ups using Heritage speakers. One I use primarily for music ... cd's, sacd's, lp's,concert dvds, broadway musicals dvd's and tapes .... This system consists of 2 Klipschorns with ALK and Altec 511b mods; 4 LaScalas = 2 as surrounds and 2 as center w/ altec 511b mod and one as rear (6.1). Plan to get 3 more 511bs to make everything equal. The second system is used mostly for high definition tv (HBO, Showtime & DVD - networks in 2003???) That system uses 4 LaScalas (one set w/ ALK crossovers)> One is used for center w/ a University Cobreflex midrange horn mod; the other as rear with University Cobreflex mod. Side surrounds are 2 Heresys.

Do you have 2 sets of mid and high horns with one bass speaker? How do you have them hooked up? What crossover do you use? How do yo handle the impedence changes which can shift crossover frequencies?

Ed- I agree - the improvement in dispersion is the most dramatic change when using the 511s. I was particularily impressed with the effect on the center channel where I use a 511 presently. I didn't notice enough of a change in my two Khorns to tear apart the cabnets. Perhaps the fact that I had the two 511s on top of the Khorns which are only 12' apart and angled directly at my sweet spot seat resulted in my not noticing the improved dispersion characteristics of the 511s when used with the corner horns vs the center channel where the 511 is mounted above the TV monitor and angled down. I plan to get a couple more 511s and do some additional experimenting. The adaptors from parts express have the same size hole as the 511 and the flange matches the flange on the 511 as well. ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems

Parts express makes an adapter as does atlas. You will have to redrill the holes on the back of the 511B - the adapter needs 3 the 511 only has two. They are very easy to drill. The 511 sounds more open (wider dispersion}, a little clear and smoother than the K400. You may have to dampen it and mount it on a board to tweek it. The combo brings out the best in the K55 driver. The 500 Hz lower end rating of the 511 and the 400 Hz lower end rating of the K55 seem to work fine. As Gil points out the difference between 400 Hz and 500Hz is slight and I can not hear any loss between 400 and 500. In short the 511b offers a slight but noticable improvement over the K400. ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems

I use Sony 400 changers and they sound terrific. I beleive it's the DAC and digital processing that makes the difference. The Sony changers sound pretty mediocre using their internal DAC but bypass via the optical output through jitter reduction, great DAC, and other electronic miracles and WOW! I use the Perpetual Technologies highly rated (Stereophile class A recomended)P3A DAC and their PiA Digital Correction Engine which converts 16/44 to 24/96 and adds computerized interpolation> In short CDs sound like SACDs which sound like LPs w/o surface noise. Buy the Outlaw 1050 for $499. or $450. for "B" stock, if available. It is a fantastic A/V receiver with superb sound quality and plenty of power for efficent Klipsch speakers. I can afford the new Outlaw proucts but I just can not see how they could be that much better than what I've got. ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems

I use Outlaw 1050s for Home Theater and think they are terrific. I also have a fantastic modified Sony 775 SACD player which sounds great using my Klipschorns and LaScalas. I do use a Dynaco PAS-4 tube preamp with stereo LPs and CDs (which I hype via Perpetual Tech gear)into the Outlaw's direct inputs. Everything sounds great! ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems

I found a pair for $300 on Audio Review - one had a blown woofer but I found an exact replacemnt for $57. on ebay. Some dings needed woodfill and they had to be repainted black but they sound great! Had to travel a little to pick them up however. I was alerted to another pair for $375. also on Audio Review I think by a post on this site. They were professionally finished in a walnut veneer on all sides. Again had to travel to pick them up but they are beautiful! The usual price is between $750 to $1200. depending on condition. But there are bargains if you look around. I have two home theaters ... one using Heritage speakers and the other using the more modern Klipsch THX LCR system which I am now converting to Heritage speakers. I chose "Soundog" for two reasons. There is a giant 25' 4 ton replica of RCA Victor's Nipper "His master's voice" that looms over North Albany that dates back to when I was a teenager and that area of Albany was the heart of the electronic supply district (like a small Cortlandt Strret (NYC). HiFi began in the 50s in converted backrooms or second floors of these parts supply houses that sold components origionally designed for use in radio stations, recording studios and movie theaters. The second reason is my listening buddy a Springer Spaniel my son named "Spot" (He was only 6 at the time - what's George's excuse?).
