  1. A strained back from lifting a very heavy printer (ouch).
  2. Sad to hear about the one that did not make it. We have a garden and every year bluetits nest in one of our larger trees. The first year that we installed a nest the pair had 4 young ones. Well molting was done and the first trys of flight were attempted. Being the natur friends that we are we thought let nature take its course and the strongest survive. Yeah right... Being the softie I am (at least with animals) every time one would make a failed attempt and crash to the ground I would pick it up (using gloves) and place it back close to the nest. Did not want the cats or birds of prey getting to them. This went on 2 days including a couple of saves during the night and all 4 came through. Those birds came back quite often that summer and fed out of the hand. Every time we see them move in in spring we wonder if it is the next generation of the ones we saved. Unfortunately the tree died this year so I am thinking of attaching the nest to a pole in the same place just for those little guys.

  10. In Germany an animal is"rated" as freight and must be secured so it cant fly around the auto during hard breaking or become a hazzard during driving ( jumping on the driver). If the pet is not secured you could even have problems with insurance when an accedent happens. We have a seperation between us and the dog but she is not buckled up. Tried it at first with a special harness but she almost broke a paw because she "spins" around a lot during driving, could miss something on the drive. So we deciced on a gate between the front and back seats. Having them buckle up is extreme but securing them does make it safer for pet and passengers. Edit: I have just read the article and if they mean secure as it restrain it so it cannot get out of the car or obstruct the driver I see no problem.

  18. No problem send me a pm and I will explain as good I can. Acutally it is called Flamkuchen (Flame cake) Originally it comes from France and the dough should be as thin as possible. Try it vegitarian and let me know how it turns out!!
  19. I wil give you guys an easy one: Bear with me on the ammounts, I just cook with the ammount that feels right. What you will need is your favorite Pizza dough, Sour Cream (high Fat content or Creme Fraisch), Onions, Cubed bacon (if possible low salt) and pepper. Cut onions thin and mix the Sour Cream half of the bacon and onions together, pepper to taste. Mix everything together and put the other half of the bacon on the side. (Don´t forget to increase your fluid houshold after such hard work) Roll out dough nice and thin and spread the onion mixture on top and add the rest of the bacon cubes. Bake at 390 until done (Depends on oven in ours it takes about 35 minutes Enjoy with a nice beer or wine. Told ya it was easy!!!
  20. You were here a long time ago You are correct at that point in time it floated around the 4 Mark for a Dollar. When I was in the Army in the 80´s it fluctuated between 3,00 - 1,80 and 1,40 to the dollar was the lowest I recall. The DM really never got to the point where it was over the dollar BUT the buying power was much higher!!
  21. Agree 100% No comment other than, we here in Germany cannot understand why this is not everywhere. As an American and knowing how the American system works I am very happy to go the doctor when I need, or want to without the worries if I need to take out a bank loan to pay for it or not. Regardless of what it is!!! And to the Theme of the thread, I would even go further by saying buy locally when possible!!
  22. It is a large part of the problem. Me and many like me hated that the Euro came and now we have to ride the wave and would like to see it go. The US Dollar to Deutschmark was reversed ($1.00 =1.85DM) but the buying power was larger. Now we get more Dollars (€1,00 = $1,31) but the inflation rate has increase and at the time of the Euro change people took advantage of it and raised prices. The people who did not calculate hard got run over. Now our currency is not only tied to Germany but to many other factors which we cannot control and the ammount of countrys getting near the edge of the breaking of the euro packt ( if interested feel free to read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stability_and_Growth_Pact ) is growing. Germany was one of the 3 strongest going into the Euro with the German Mark being unofficially designed as the strongest currencies in Europe. Now it is a totally different story, and no one likes it here.
  23. Unfortunately when it comes down to it the people who can buy American ( in my case German ) will. When the cost of living increases but wages do not it is hard to not go for the most inexpensive stuff. One of the things which happened in Germany was when China/India products came on to the marked no one took them seriously since the quality was not up to snuff. Then the Chinese/Indians not being stupid started producing to near "German quality" for only a fraction of a price increase. Now the companies even have quality control from either the States or Europe working for them and are cleaning up in some branches. It is funny how in a different thread here free market econonmy is embraced, yet the reprocussions are ignored when one looks at the big picture. I truly wish you well on your endevor!!! I am one who believes you must first take care of yourself before you can start to take care of others. NWO (for lack of a better term) is here in this day and age, this cannot be ignored. Globalizing, although not wanted by many, is here and as long as there is profit to be made it will not go away.
