  1. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ele/551891732.html I think if I am not mistaken, someone at the forums here swears by them? Please let me know. Thanks
  2. didn't someone from this forum buy those fortes? I wonder if they are the one selling. I remember these was a post here not too long ago (5-6 months maybe) - who bought these forte at no more than $300 a pair. I'm probably totally wrong but I thought I remember something like that.
  3. I just recently found a deal on Mcintoch MC-2105 amp and matching C26 pre in wood cases orignal owner for $500. The guy has posted his number at 12am and I called him at 1am (i know im crazy) - he said I was the first one to call and that I can call him in the morning to setup time to pick up. I call him the next day and he said that someone called earlier in the morning - pretended like he was me - and came to pick up the equipment with cash and took the gear. The owner said he pretended like "yeah yeah thats me" when he the owner had initally questioned him "are you the one that called last night at 1 am". I was so mad
  4. My experience with e-bay is that whenever you state that you will charge only actual shipping cost - you attract more bids - I put in something crazy like a $100 bucks for shipping but in the ad I said - "only actually shipping charges will apply and that the $100 is a place holder" - then I send them a copy of the shipping invoice so there is no dispute.
  5. if the sound is not detailed - the tweeters might be blown I had someone sell me "Mint-100% flawless AS IS" Heresy with blown tweeters. Just something you can look into- best of luck.
  6. synthfreek, I had not heard of dead can dance until you posted - I especially like the second link you posted. I will get in touch with you to get some recommendations. There following CD seemed to have excellent reviews: "Within the Realm of a Dying Sun" Thanks for posting D
  7. .... Loreena Mckennitt - which I assume falls under Celtic music? (yes i know no point starting a thread about it, but I was curious) - when I audtion speakers before I buy, I often take one of her CDs - Although Klipsch speakers play all music well, I love how you can clearly tell all the acoustic instuments being played on her cds. for those who don't know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uoUthLnZ0oo (for those who are not into her voice(which i happen to love) skip to 2min25secd) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIpX0ZqmBak <--this is pretty much all instrumental
  8. My friend just scored a killer deal on a pair of B&W 802 (about seven years old I think) from a guy whose wife wanted to get ride of big floor standing speakers and "get something small that also sounds good" (she felt Bose would give her that). He said he kept thinking if the lady was partially retarded?
  9. Just out of curiosity, since there is an upgrade kit to take Heresy II to Heresy III, Is there an upgrade kit to take Cornwall II to Cornwall III?
  10. I thought ports increase low bass extention?
  11. You want to feel bass - anyone locally should hear this sub http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mld/ele/468472341.html this is my friend's sub - I am not promoting the sale simply because I don't think he is selling it anymore - this horn hits so hard its unbelievable what 2 10" drivers can do in a proper enclosure. if you are DIY savy - go to the link he posted and try to make one yourself - its so worth it.
  12. I am not taking any sides - but I think its difficult to judge which sounds better when your listening to the music through head phones. -- I am sure I will get laughed at for saying that, but if I was to judge a component (cd player/amp/pre-amp/turntable) - I would definately not use head phones to make my final decision. I do not know how one can judge the bass, the soundstage using head phones.
  13. I never believed in fancy interconnects but went ahead bought a whole buch of Blue Jeans cable from audiogon (spent good amount of money too since they were near new) - but I think I am just fooling myself to believe there was a difference - if someone switched them out of my system - I would never be able to tell. I have them - but I can't honestly say they made a difference.
  14. http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ele/465613141.html - no affiliation, etc. etc. Absolutely has to be one of my favorite Klipsch speaker - the KG4 I use to own a pair but ended up selling them after aquiring my second pair of Cornwalls. $200 is around market price - there is a possibility they you can negociate - but even at $200 I think its a great speaker- This one is orignal owner, walnut finish. I know Colter would advise I pick these up and I am too tempted - but I am all out of room.
  15. 300 is a fair price - they usually sell around 325-350 - you are not CRAZY to pass on the deal or anything - but if you are asking if that speaker is worth it for $300 - my opinion - NO DOUBT its worth it - the Heresy is a very credible speaker - if its in great condition - I personally think $300 is a fair price.
  16. thought I post this up while you guys discuss Speaker Labs K-horns http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1198777438 no affiliation - etc.
  17. I dont think its the networks - I actually really liked the Khorn setup - i love the horn loaded bass - it doenst dig deep - but its nice and quick - just as musical bass should be - However - those Cornwalls did sound amazing - I guess Colter is right that the room was having a huge impact. In anycase - the Khorns and the Cornwalls produce very very different type of sound. You could have same gear, same room, but they still sound so different - and that explains partialy why people have such a hard time giving up the Cornwalls. The K-horns was definately more detailed - the Cornwalls system had a "warm" sound.
  18. That is so true - I think I can speak for everyone when say we were thoroughly impressped by Mark D and Craigs work. Unbelieve experience (for me atleast).
  19. I find it funny that one of the albums the Marty is holding on to (in the pictures above) looks like a coloring book - Here is the only picture I have
  20. to my knowledge - you should not have any issues with the sound - the 6ohm is the impedence of the speaker - there speakers will draw more current from your amplifier because there relatively low resistance. - you should be find - just so long as your amp can handle 6ohm load - but in terms of sound quality - I think you should be fine - someone please correct me if I am wrong.
  21. Guys, After the gathering this past weekend, I have decided to consolidate my system. I currently own a pair of Khorns, 2 pairs of Cornwalls, and a pair of Heresy. I am selling the pair of Heresy and 1 pair of Cornwall - I just can't decide which pair of Cornwall to sell - The Decorators Or the regular ones - Both of them were refinished by me not too long ago. I can't decide which ones to sell - I think the latter have a greater WAF and the former are Classics - Both had their caps changed and the Decorators had their woofers changed to Bob C. -cast frames. I do need to get rid of one - Please share your thoughts
  22. Thanks for the kind words guys - The decoraters definitely look better in person - the subs below them - not so great - that was a very quick project. Although those subs below the cornwall look evil - they are not - I keep them just to give me that mid-bass thump that I enjoy. I have them crossedover between 35hz-100hz - and for mid-bass purpose they are perfect - just want i needed. The two sonosubs - now those are EVIL - both powerd with 1,100 watts (but capable of only 800 watts RMS). - both tuned to 14hz - and I can make anything in the house that is not nailed down move - and if it is nailed down - i bet it could pop the nail a little. You have to experience the sonos guys - lets plan on getting together sometime soon. Dhar
  23. Hey Colter, Check out my set up right now http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x205/dkalsi/ all speakers no components. Someone is begging me to sell the Decorator cornwalls (new Bob C. woofer and upgraded caps). I think I should - i need to invest more in componenets. I still can't believe what I was hearing at Gary's
  24. Guys, I made it back home safely too (at whopping distance of 10 miles). I had a great time this weekend - had the opportunity to meet Gary - and yes - he is turely as great of a guy as was mentioned in that one thread about him. I couldn't make it to LarryC's but I have heard his setup before - and it is absolutely amazing and flawlessly organized. One of the most exciting part for me was seeing how beautiful a pair of Zebrawood Cornwalls look like - absolutely has to be the most beautiful speakers I have seen to date. And the sound was just incredible. I have to agree with Colter that it may have to do with the perfect placement. I own two pairs of Cornwalls and not one sounds as good as Gary's --- mind you I dont have it hooked up to a NOS rebuilt 299b (I think thats what it was). Both, the Conrwall and Khorn setup, were amazing. I can not thank Larry and Gary for organizing this. Although the perfomance at the Strathmore was priceless, I do not think we have to wait for an event like that to get together again. After listing to Gary's setup and having heard Larry's already, I have a long way to go before I can invite anyone over for a similar experience. Nonetheless, I will definitely try to host something soon just for the sake of getting together. I am hoping all who are local to attend but anyone who can make it is more than welcome/encouraged to come. I do not have a good 2-channel setup yet - but I can show you how good a budget homtheater system can sound like (with a little bit of DIY work). To all those who attented - it was an absolute pleasure meeting you guys. And Yes - Colter is crazy (he tought I was crazy not willing to drive several hundered miles to pick up a pair of speakers at a fair price). Marty is definitely a character - you guys have to meet these people - some of the coolest people on the forums here. Marty - I am hoping you would make it should I host something in the near future - I think its reasonable to assume that Colter would be up for it.
