  1. dtel I don't really like headphones either but I listen quite a bit on Grado SR60 on my Creative Labs mp3 player at work. The Grado SR60 are a lot of audio reviewers favorite inexpensive 'phones ($69). I never thought I'd buy any other brand of headphones but the demo at the Pilgrimage changed my mind. The plug got damaged (or was maybe bad to begin with but the kids stepped on it in our miniman) and I was going to replace it and spoke to John Grado when I called to find out which wire was left, right, and ground and where to get an 1/8" headphone jack to fit the cable as I found the Radio Shack plug I'd purchased wouldn't accomodate the cable. John convinced me to send them in and they were repaired and shipped back within a week. Seemed like great customer service to me as I only paid for the shipping and was sure the kids stepping on them had something to do with the problem. And I believe they're still made in the US. The earphones Klipsch demo'd at the Pilgrimage did sound fantastic to my tin ears. I also hate the kind that stick in one's ears though in all fairness I've not really tried any of those except of cheap ones that came with portable CD or cassette players. That said, the other in the ear brands available at the Pilgrimage didn't even look comfortable so I couldn't bring myself to put them in my ears. The Klipsch were surprisingly comfortable. I listened to Michaels demo cuts on the Klipsch earphones and thought he put together some great tracks. I think I'll have to get a pair when they come out. Given I have no real budget for such things it'll probably be the lower end model but should be a dramatic step up from my SR60s and much more comfortable. Of course the Klipsch are really earphones so Grado may be the only headphone brand I'll buy (other than cheap one's for the kids and I did get them a pair of Grado SR40s a few years back). The girls' like the in the ear type of 'phones so I may have to hide 'em from them until I can afford some for them. I doubt that I won't be able to get the way cool tiny ones which is what I listened to the most but the larger version I tried sounded really good as well and should work good for working outside. I took my mp3 with to paint soccer fields with some Koss Porta Pro II and they weren't any more comfortable than the SR60s and didn't sound near as good. Way too hot and they're a lot smaller than the Grados. I think the Klipsch 'phones will be a winner if they can get enough people to try them. Get a few Hollywood types spotted with the various models, especially the micro sized one and they should sell like crazy.... I'd think that could also introduce people to the Klipsch brand. If the Klipch you can hold in your hand sounds this good, think how good the big Heritage series speakers must sound. Ben
  2. cviper be sure to check the garage sale thread - may be some Chorus II there now but probably too far away
  3. Duh. I'm fat because I eat too much. My wife's a great cook and I can cook a few things that taste pretty good. Biggest problem, other than lack of exercise, is that we eat too much too late after the girls' games. Thankfully we avoid most fast food, but we do visit Taco Hell way too often and way too late. Off to table tennis ... hopefully burn a few calories
  4. Michael you're still the king .... at least here ... you have Klipsch after all. But is sanity all it's cracked up to be? Who defines sanity anyway? Maybe the true insane people are the one's who think they're totally normal. In any case, they don't have as much fun ...
  5. Even if the Klipschorn is no longer labeled the flagship Klipsch speaker, it will always be the heart and soul of the best Klipsch has to offer. Maybe there's a Palladium Klipschorn in the works....
  6. So just for fun next time there's a sound off in your area to see who has the loudest car stereo, figure out a way to power it and load up a few pieces of your most beaten up pro gear in your truck, put in your earplugs and fire up a few chords or your fave tune to drown out the "winner". Chug your Diet Rockstar and mutter "...silly amateurs ...why do I bother ... " and drive home. You'd probably have by far the best sounding rig. Or you could be really evil and put on some of CoyTee's fave Marie Osmond tunes though you'd probably want something with some more bass. Really rattle their windows and egos. Hmm maybe you could start a service to come play some music of your clients choice to counter the neighborhood overloaded bass freak, you know the type, all the bass and then some, and little else... Michael's Mobile Musical Pest Service.... fight musical (often questionable) fire with musical fire
  7. ".. AND a Crown leather tour jacket in my size! ..." sounds like quite a haul. I suspect getting Crown gear from the grandson of the founder could be quite fascinating.... I'd kind of forgotten that Crown was started or based in Hoosierland. Is it still? So there's now a mountain of Crown to go with the mountain of Klipsch? woooohooo indeed
  8. So we see an amplifier, at the bottom of a stack of equipment. That's proof that he's actually hooked it up? I believe ya Richard and so does Michael apparently, but will this satisfy those who are wanting to BAN CoyTee? Not just ban but BAN (of course BAN could be some acronym I'm not aware of but and BAN probably has no significance over ban, whoa way past time for bed, could be Buy A 'Nad? (not an NAD) I imagine he was evaluating the new set up to see if he's getting that chest thumping he was trying to get even as he took the picture. 'Course did he then get in trouble for groovin' out and arriving late to the dinner table? I hope Chloe's glasses are of the proper strength. Wouldn't want to get the ASPCA on your case for givin' her a headache or anything. Enjoy your new amp CoyTee
  9. Kaiser, Troyphoto made a comment in another thread sometime recently (sorry couldn't find it) that part of Michael's secret as a photographer involved working the room with a Cornwall strapped to his back towing a car batter and amplifier .... so take it easy on him man, we should be thankful he's only a little hunched over after lugging a cornwall around on his back...there may have even been dancing involved .... and he can still walk upright, well at least mostly upright as far as I can tell now that's a photographer - the DJ or band doesn't show up, no problem, Michael's got your back don't need no DJ or band, we got Colter Photograpy and mobile DJ service - he brings the party to you
  10. Not sure Michael or anyone will see this as it's a month and a half later, but watch the sales and get an external hard drive. 250GB USB hard drives can often be found on sale for $100. Replaced our Iomega with a Western Digital MyBook Essential I picked up at the local Best Buy for $99 a few months ago shortly after the Iomega spooled up and started kicking in the afterburners for take off and then KGHNG (I suspect the sound of a head crash). And we had restored a few things and our laptop was 3 years old and the hard drive occasionally got flaky. I'd rather have an ethernet RAID box but too short on dough.... and almost got 2 of the USB drives as natually the laptop hard drive started flaking out right after the external drive crashed but thankfully was fine with a little disk maintenance. For Windows at least I wouldn't get the deluxe WD model with expensive backup software or separate software. Microsoft SyncToy is available for free download and does a good job of backing up files but is not recommended for restoring the OS and programs. It was put together by one of the Microsoft employees to organize and backup digital photos on the laptop drive and I think 2 external drives for an upcoming once in a lifetime African photo safari. SyncToy has different options for backups, keep totaly in sync including deletes (not good for restoring oops or files that mysteriously disappear) or the option I use to keep things in sync including renaming files (and I hope directories) but to never delete the file from the backup (still got it if it accidentally is deleted or disappears. I've scheduled daily backups as well as weekly and monthly backups.
  11. I hadn't realized until reading this thread that Coytee hadn't yet moved the water closet inside.... or was it installed to wash the cat? Forget banning him from the forum, he made need some serious help.... Cat's do seem fascinated by a swirling wc in action so maybe that'd be a good way to bathe 'em. You'd think they'd like a bath or shower better than licking the crud off.... I know he's had indoor water at least for a while anyway as I stumbled upon the Klipsch forum googling hot and cold outdoor faucets back in May and found a link to a forum thread as Richard and at least one other had installed such a device for hot and cold soft water outside. I think his froze up so maybe indoor plumbing is kind of new out his way? I hadn't been to the Klipsch website in quite some time and think I remember stumbling across the forum but didn't bother to sign up, the out of sight out of mind thinking I suppose as this looks interesting but trying to suppress the urge to upgrade.... (way past due) This time though I did read a few posts and signed up right away when I saw the post about the Pilgrimage as it sounded like too much fun to pass up and it was. Though now I have this unsuppressable urge to aquire speakers the size of small refrigerators or at least as big and more hefty as puny boxes some try to pass off as subwoofers. No known cure for this fever 'cept getting some new big honkin' speakers, even if they're 20 or 30 or even 40 years old ... No dreams of little cube speakers here.... that's more of a nightmare.
  12. So Richard's not an audiophile.... that's not necessarily a bad thing.... There's nothing wrong with being an audiophile necessarily, but many are full of [bs] ... So he rebuilds his bathroom rather than trying out his new amp, might preserve his hiney from his wife a bit longer, got a new bathroom might not notice the new amp or be quite as perturbed. And just maybe, he's too busy enjoying the music pounding him in the chest out of his Jubilees to bother changing the amplifier. I've often thought that many audiophiles get too involved in listening to the equipment rather than the music which would seem to be the main point of having an audio system in the first place but what do I know Michael may get his K2 swapped out sooner, but I'm sure he has a couple of options to keep the music flowing whilst he swaps in his K2. Given that I've got a bathroom that I've not finished gutting much less rebuilding I think I'd opt for getting it back online before swapping out an amplifier.... especially now that our 2 bathrooms has become 1-1/2 shared with my wife and 2 daughters. After all, it's not like his current amplifer is out of commission.
  13. I think the wood grain should look even better in person but do agree that I think it would look better if the grain was all in the same direction, the solid block of wood look.... A tall relatively narrow tower probably is a lot more acceptable to most than the small refrigerator sized Heritage speakers but I always think fully horn loaded as being the true Klipsch ideal ....
  14. Nice work on the bathroom Richard, except maybe for the interesting water closet install but maybe you'll start a new trend, recessing the old wc in the wall? Our 2nd bathroom is still in the process of being torn down to be rebuilt.....should be interesting to see what kind of "design features" I incorporate into this project before it's completed. I was going to comment about Michael getting so many amplifiers, but he can probably put 'em all to use and still might need more... and getting 'em from the grandson of the founder of Crown should make it even more fun
  15. ... and there's something wrong with wandering down the middle of the street nekkid? ... sometimes the voices go with... uh, back on topic, nice rig... Enjoy! [H]
  16. Up north, Indiana, not that far north, they've closed down one or more of the NWS offices. My brother functions as a spotter and said that part of the Indiana that used to be covered pretty well by the weather radar now has no coverage. Apparently saving a few million dollars here and there is worth it to someone, but especially for hurricanes where hundreds and thousands of people can be seriously affected. Most such short sited planning is only good for the short term but is much more expensive in dollars and human costs in the long term. Save a buck or pay hundreds later ... and when hundreds or thousands die or lose everything. I think that's savings we can live without.
  17. Discussing discontinuing "Hurricane Hunter" flights... satellites due to expire with no replacement until 2013!? Too much political [bs] is most likely the root cause of such things. Very interesting and informative thread. No threat of hurricanes where I live, just tornadoes which are frightening enough and maybe a bit more unpredictable than hurricanes but not nearly as devastating on such a large scale. We saw some of the damage in Punta Gorda FL over the holidays a couple of years ago and that was terrible even a couple of months after the fact. I hope and pray that this hurricane season is mild compared to Katrina and some of the other recent hurricanes. Keep up the great work here in keeping all informed. Hopefully the Hurricane warning and tracking systems will be improved soon instead of being allowed to fall apart as better warnings and better preparation is the best approach to keeping the most people safe. .
  18. Great deal Phil! [H] I wouldn't say we all hate you, jealous yes, but hate is such a strong word...
  19. That right there is funny....although some our "yankee forum friends" may not think so![] I qualify as a "yankee", and I think that's very funny ... I did live in Texas for 5 years but doubt that removed too much "yankee" .... our oldest daughter is a native "Texan" so maybe she doesn't qualify as a "yankee"? I consider it an honor if I'm considered a "yankee forum friend"
  20. If you're only going to use this with your IPOD, you could get one of those single chip amplifiers. I think the Trends Micro are around $120 and may have went up and there's a Sonic Impact model for 29.99 at Parts Express ( http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=300-952 ) but the 19.95 ac adaptor is no longer available though they and others probably have other suitable adaptors as using 8 AA batteries could get expensive. Of course I think this model and maybe others have 1 input and no tuner. I've not used one though a lot of people claim they do better than expected. Someone had the Sonic Impact at the Pilgrimage but I forgot to ask him about it and not sure he tried it out there. I think there's a thread here on the Trends Micro. Worst case you can always start with the mini stereo front end you have. You might be surprised how well the Klipsch speakers sound in such a setup and then you'd have time to find a suitable receiver or amplifier. Depth may be a problem even if you can find a unit that's narrow enough. Good luck.
  21. I've done that before with a really old junk receiver between a wall and a dresser with space on either side and didn't notice any ill effects but never used for more than background music, but I'd have to agree that it's not a good idea as receivers are designed to sit flat. You could check the owners manual if available but I'm sure it would say to sit flat on the shelf with good ventilation. You might check for executive desktop systems that might be less than 10" wide but not sure if any micro components are currently available. I have a TEAC tuner and CD recorder that are both less than standard rack width and I think they did make a matching amplifier and maybe even a receiver a few years back so that may be an option if you could find one of those. Good luck
  22. Very nice score! I'm not sure I want to know how little you paid for 'em.
  23. AVI, No idea about the price... but seems like a good start on your 12 step B*@& recovery process... You certainly could've spent a lot more for a lot less. I'm not sure there ever is completely the right stuff. Enjoy and welcome to the forum! The people here are really nice (though at times a few may seem a little p'od at one another) and very well versed in all things audio and a whole lot more.... I think Dtel's Wife called it one big dysfunctional family ... but dysfunctional in a good way. I've met a few in person at the latest Klipsch Pilgrimage, including Klipsch employees and they really are a very diverse great group of music loving, fun loving, Klipsch loving folks. As far as recovering from B*@&, do a search on VP of engineering.... I think it's in the Klipsch Pilgrimage thread.
  24. Road Trip! Some awesome suggestions here. I'd throw in some of the working man's anthems such as Johny Paychecks "Take This Job and Shove It" (and I don't even have a copy. Loverboy's "Workin' For the Weekend". Triumph's "I Live For The Weekend". REO Speedwagon's "Ridin' The Storm Out". Or maybe Travis Tritt's "Here's A Quarter, Try Calling Someone Who Cares" (or something like that, don't have that either) when you think of the o'l boss whining about you taking a week off. Some albums that got us through some long road trips: REO Speedwagon - "Live: You Get What You Play For" (back in the day when they were a Rock and Roll band before they became a mega successful pop band) was going to buy it on CD before I found out that the CD is a shortened version missing important parts such as Gary Richrath's guitar solo, even though he supposedly has executive producer credits on the CD. Gonna have to digitize my vinyl version, or my college roommate's copy as it was recorded onto tape and is probably still pristine, mines a bit more worn. Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band - "Live Bullet" Amy Grant - "Straight Ahead" and "Unguarded" Harry Chapin - "Greatest Stories Live" Kenny Logins - "Alive" would now play either "Gold Medal Collection" or the "Bottom Line Encore Collection, Harry and the band's 2000th concert Neil Diamond - "Hot August Night" James Taylor - "Greates Hits" Weather Report - "Heavy Weather" Steve Taylor and Some Band - "I Want To Be A Clone" and "Meltdown" David Meece - "Front Row" DeGarmo & Key Band - "No Turning Back" Supertramp - "Paris" Creedance Clearwater Revival - "Chronicle" John Fogerty - "Centerfield" (one of the few cassettes I bought, mostly vinyl recorded to cassette). Tthe above on cassettes recorded from vinyl including quite a few already mentioned and more. Drug along 1 to 3 dozen tapes usually. Then we moved onto CDs dragging along 1 to 3 or 4 dozen even a grocery bag full once before got smart enough to put 'em in wallets for travelling. And now mp3, several thousand songs in the palm of one's hand (the kids don't know how cool that is).... still miss a lot of the vinyl I've not got around to digitizing or buying on CD to rip to mp3. More recently the soundtracks to "Remember The Titans" and "Forrest Gump" get quite a bit of road play. Thebes, hope you enjoyed your road trip. Sounds like you're way past due.... your boss should be happy you're takin' a break as it'll do wonders for your productivity... not to mention your sanity. Sometimes we've all just got to get away from the craziness... Wishin' I was hittin' the road though we did complete a week long trip the week of July 4th to the NC outer banks to Kill Devil Hills, home of the Wright Brother's memorial, lodging provided by my wife's Aunt and Uncle, invited us along to hang out in the huge beach house they rented (can't turn down an offer like that, I mean would that be rude or what) - almost killed me that we couldn't go last summer as I had to work, my wife and kids wouldn't go without me - especially considering the great time we had when they invited us along a couple years ago to Emerald Isle I think Harry Chapin's line from "Greyhound" says it quite well: " ... It's got to be the going not the getting there that's good ... " Sorry for the ramblin', like anyone's made it this far...
  25. Anyone know what the subject is of this panorama? I looked but gave up after 5 minutes or so.
