  1. Bill, Glad to hear you are pleased with your self-gifted Christmas presents.[G][] Enjoy your time with your family and don't you dare think of your gear not even once while you are with them.[] Okay you can think about it but just don't obsess. Merry Christmas to you, Bill
  2. Yes. You are sending a digital bitstream to your receiver letting it's DAC's do the converting to analog. Bill
  3. I think for less than $100.00, used is your only option and then the field is slim. http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1297005624&/Rotel-RCD-950-Entry-Level-Audi http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1298137793&/NAD-5420-rotel-rcd-865bx-with- http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1296545235&/Marantz-CC-65SE-5-Disc-Changer Very nice player here but you would have to stretch your budget. http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?dgtlplay&1297791184&/Onkyo-C-S5VL-mint-condition--v Bill
  4. That's not cool. What size TV do you have? If not too heavy(>80lbs), you could set the TV on top of the RC-35. I have seen it with great results. If you are uneasy about that maybe a TV riser will work. Not sure if this one will work but you get my point. http://www.standsandmounts.com/WoodTechnologyTVRiserwithAdjustableSpeakerorComponentHousing.aspx Bill
  5. That Onkyo looks like a nice entry level to low mid level receiver especially fro $250.00. My suggestion is if you can squeeze a little more $$$'s out of your budget, opt for the TX-SR707/708 which has preouts to add an amp if you choose. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXSR707/Onkyo/TX-SR707-Thx-Select2-Plus-100-watts-channel-7.2-Receiver/1.html http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/ONKTXNR708/Onkyo/TX-NR708-7.2-Channel-3-D-Ready-Network-A/V-Receiver/1.html Bill
  6. Ryrebo, Nice setup and welcome to the forum. As Ironsave has noted, there are better subs out there for the $$$ and the RC-64 will make a difference. Swap those around. By design, the RS-41II's should be used as side surrounds and the RB-51II's should be placed in rear. Bill
  7. Nice speakers. Sounds like a good deal to me. Break it down and the deal looks better. (2) RF-35's for $300.00 and (1) RC-35 for $150.00. The Quintets will work okay but if you listen to lots of 5.1 music, it would be better to get matching surrounds. I would try to find at least a pair of RS-25's if no RS-35's are available. These are not Reference surrounds but work well enough if you can't find the matching ones. My friend uses these with his RF-82's and RC-62 and he is very pleased with them. http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/item/details/542498072/klipsch-xb10 Bill
  8. Glad to see things are improving. Short list, not in any particular order: 1) Saving Private Ryan(BD or DVD) 2) Master and Commander(BD or DVD) 3) Dark Knight 4) Iron Man 5) Black Hawk Down 6) We Were Soldiers 7) UP 8) Kung Fu Panda Bill

  10. Ryrebo, Welcome to the forum. Three Heresy II's across the front would be awesome. Two RF-82's and an RC-62 would also be awesome. Both setups make a great front soundstage. May give the edge to the Heresy II's for music(3-way vs 2-way) but only slightly. Find a good sub and surrounds and you are good to go. Good luck, Bill
  11. No problem with that height. I have my tweeters on my RS-35's at 77 inches from floor. I have read most recommend 6 to 7 feet from floor. With your rears mounted and angled down, the tweeters will probably end up about 7.5 feet from floor. That would be just about right. Great idea having the RB-81's do double duty. Bill
  12. BigStewMan, You just beat me to the punch. Correct information, only the shipper can authorize the changes. Bill
  13. Look at it this way. You buy a $227,000.00 Ferrari F430 Scuderia(510hp) that will go from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds and top out at 198mph. Then take $85,000.00 out of your other account and hop into a Corvette Z06(505hp) and you can also go from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds and top out at 198mph. Both are awesomely fast supercars but the Ferrari is 2.5 times the price of the Z06. Driving around South Beach which would you rather be in? Head to head on the track, flip a coin, you could win in either. In the end, the Ferrari is the status simple of the rich and famous, and the Corvette Z06 is the supercar for the more common man, well maybe a richer common man. Bill
  14. This may just be a long shot but how far is the front of the center speaker to the front edge of the stand? If it is too far it might just be diffusing the sound away from your ears. I have my RC-64 right on the edge of my shelf angled right at my ears. Just a thought, Bill
  15. ,Congrats on the the birthday gift. How high is your ceiling and at what level are your side surrounds. If your ceiling is 10ft or higher I don't know if rear surrounds is a good idea. You could work with 8ft with no problem and have your side surrounds mounted at around 7ft. The RB-81II's should hang down to about 7ft, therefore they would be about even. I don't know personally about ceiling mounts but maybe someone will chime in. Bill
  16. I think the Yamaha is fine but I am a little partial to Onkyo. Very reliable, great for HT, and feature packed. One advantage the Yamaha RX-667 does have over the Onkyo TX-SR607/608 is that it has preouts if you want to add an outboard amp later. You must step up to the Onkyo TX-SR707/708 if you want preouts. Bill
  17. This is from my NAD T-773 manual: "NOTE: You can set subwoofer to "On" even with "Large" front speakers, in which case bass content from any channels set to "Small" will be routed to both the subwoofer and to the front speakers; LFE-channel signal will pass only to the sub. In most subwoofer-equipped systems, setting front speakers to "Small" is usually the better option." I have my front soundstage set to "large" because after much experimenting, I like the fuller sound better. With your receiver, it would be best to set all of your speakers to small. I do believe there really could be something wrong with your center channel on your Onkyo. Bill
  18. Here you go. http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/103160/1041324.aspx#1041324 Then click on the pdf. links on 2nd line from top of each post. Bill
  19. All my speaker wire is 14 awg. Not an issue. Unfortunately, your Onkyo TX-SR607 only has preouts for (2) subs so you can't ad an amp unless you upgrade your receiver to at least the 707/708 if you want to stick with Onkyo. As far as power conditioners/surge protectors go, I like having one. I live in Central Florida and lightening strikes and power surges are the norm. Will they protect against a direct lightening strike? Most likely not. But they will help in maintaining consistant voltage to your gear and normal surges and some shut things down when voltage gets too low. I originally had all my speakers set to small but was experimenting one day and changed my RF-63's and RC-64 to large. I think they have a fuller sound set to large but the crossover is still set to 80hz. Keep in mind I do have a 3-channel and 2-channel 200w/ch amps in the mix so there is not strain on my receiver amps at all. Bill
  20. Bohvey, Congratulations on the awesome new setup. I can just about guarantee your RC-64 is not the culprit. It appears that maybe the center channel signal from the Onkyo TX-SR607 might be your problem. You have tried a very mediocre Energy center channel and probably the best center Klipsch has ever produced and the same issue applies. Is the Onkyo still under warranty? Check all your connections and speaker wires from your receiver terminals to the RC-64 terminals. Another note, while the Onkyo TX-SR607 is a nice entry/mid level receiver, it may not have enough ooomph to handle the job of the RF-63 HT setup. Bill
  21. Mike, I have a NAD C542 cd player that I have in my family room HT rig that I use for 2-channel with analog out to my NAD T773 receiver. I think the NAD player's DACs are slightly better than the ones in my NAD receiver, Yamaha BR player, and my Onkyo universal player. Actually all are quite good but the C542 just edges them out. Take a look at this Marantz BD8002. I have been eying these for some time and http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/MARBD8002B/Marantz/Bd8002-Reference-Blu-ray-Dvd-Player/1.html has a great deal on them now. Great build quality(over 23lbs) with Silicon Optix's Realta HQV video processor in it. They are local here in Orlando if you wanted to pick up. Merry Christmas, Bill
  22. That is funny. I was thing about Rudolph and his friends. Edit completed. Bill
  23. For music, the 3.1 setup will sound great. For HT, it will also sound great minus the information(signals) sent to the surround channels. Bill
  24. Nic, I think the reason you don't see many RT12d's in member's profiles is because they will set you back much $$$. I think the specialty brands offer as good or better performance for much less dough. I understand the RT12d is a wonderful sub with a great design but a little too much coin for most member's pockets. Just my take. Bill
  25. I know of someone and read on many occasions that these monoblocks make great passive sub amps. Two can be bridged to produce 360 watts RMS@ 8ohms. http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstran&1295966792&/Marantz-MA-500-1-pair http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/203638-marantz_ma500u_125wpc180wpc_mono_blocks_x_5/ http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1121946 http://www.hifi-pictures.net/amplifiers-home/Marantz%20MA-700/Marantz%20MA700.pdf These amps are very versatile and sound really good in a 2 channel setup or in HT. I had a pair of MA-500's and (5) MA-700's and really loved them and hated to get rid of them. I kick myself every time I think of it. Bill
