  1. Very cool, thanks for posting. Designed in the mid 60's is crazy.....this dude could be from another planet.
  2. Sorry about the sour grapes and your newly bought K-horns, you sound a little disappointed. Maybe you should post the gear you're running, your room size, X-overs, etc. A few changes may make a huge difference. Some things to point out. I think the OP was saying he wasn't hearing $18K worth of sound and thats all. Having said that, the Sophia's have a flatter and broader frequency range than the LS's. If we can't compare an 18K pair of bass reflex speakers that go a full octave lower than a pair of horn loaded LaScalas, then what is the point? Better yet, why don't we ask the speaker builder? Good sound from bad recordings? Bad recordings are just that. If you can't hear the difference in a heavily compressed track when compared to something better, then your speakers that you are used to arent revealing the "truth." The horns bring out the details and the subtleties you don't notice or hear with a conventional speaker and 99.9% of the owners here own them because of that. As far as solid wood cabinets, not only will the resonance be very bad, solid wood is unstable, it won't stay true to size and shouldn't be used unless you are putting it on top of MDF, plywood or some other method. As far as tweaking your K's and being upset about about spending a little for this or that.... Well, 3K spent on a set of used K's or LS II's or whatever, leaves you a huge amount of leeway when comparing to dropping many, many, many times more on a speaker that has no following and no passion for others to offer other options for customizing or tailoring your sound.

    I Love Ketchup

No kidding. That crap in UN-AMERICAN ! At least thats what I tell my wife
  4. No batteries yet, but these guys sure are smooth. Thanks for the hookup Dean.
  5. Very cool you have your daughter in it. Thats one you will smile looking at 1 year or 20 years from now.
  6. Another vote for the CW's. Im still trying to buyback a pair of CW ii's I sold to a friend back in 1990.
  7. I don't use a sub, but I placed tweeters in small baffles on top of my LS cabs, placed at the back so they are aligned with the K55 drivers. This will work with the K77 tweeters, but I used some Eminence drivers on a different horn. The drivers are APT50s, the same as the ones Bob Crites sells. You can see pics here (although I take some of the other cabinet decor down while listening). https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/147468-into-the-newer-house/?hl=marvel#entry1677243 Bruce Oh, Im following you now. I was thinking active X-over amps, Bi amping, EQing and all that to sort out the timing. That doesn't look bad at all and I bet there is a benefit in sound having the tweeter higher as well.
  8. The combination of both. Though the Lascala's bass and mids are not precisely time aligned they are close enough to get coherent summation. When used with a horn loaded biamped subwoofer that is also aligned to the woofer in the Lascala, along with a tweeter that can be moved to time align it to the mid driver, you wind up with a very good loudspeaker system that can reproduce just about anything you throw at it. Thanks for the info. I never knew the K's were considered this flawed from a timing issue. So are you saying you have to put a different tweeter on top of the LS and use a horn loaded sub crossed to where the LS's low end falls off?
  9. Is there a DTV channel for this station. PBS is channel 2 here, but I couldn't find it in the menu Couldn't find the program listing that is
  10. Having owned both Khorns and LaScalas for over 30 years, soundwise, it is better to get LaScalas and a good Subwoofer if you have the floor space. Khorns use up less floor space, but with a little PEQ, my not need a sub, altough LaScalas with sub will outperform a Khorn, expecially with a Tuba or Tapped Horn sub. Are you saying the time difference is why the LS will outperform the K or adding the sub will simply let the LS and the sub have a better frequency range?
  11. In the middle of the road just chilling. Not a little guy either, 10-12 inches across
  12. I have listened to my '92 Indy LaScala's for around 10-12 years and I have listened to my '89 K-horns for around 5-6 weeks, so my observations are pretty fresh. I used to run a SVS sub to fill with the LaScalas when they were my front mains. Since then, the LS's have been moved to my rears and the sub retired to HT duty. I have a 20' foot wall and both sets were and are in the corners. My couch sits pretty low, so the LS's had a more direct, in your face sound due to the horns closer to ear level. My listening distance is 12 feet for both. The K's have a much more airy sound and seem to bring a little more "magic" that wasn't there before. The sound is different, no doubt, but I still wouldn't discount the LS's due to my preference of the K's. I read here all the time people matching subs to the K's, but I really haven't missed any lows when just listening to the K's minus the sub. I have had the exact opposite experience with the K's and being happy that I don't need to introduce the sub no matter what MY listening content is. Don't get me wrong, some of the newer modern recordings have a lot of lower bass from Moogs and other keyboards, but I don't miss out on it as the sub rarely is heard set at 40hz and set at a very low level at that. I ran the sub around 60-80hz with the LS's from time to time. No way I would give up either speaker, but the K's are more refined by my ears. I was caught off guard because I too figured same drivers, different bass box and thought the sound would be close with just more lower bass extension. I was wrong. The K's have lived up to the hype IMO.
  13. This sounds like a Fletcher-Munson type thing, not an amp thing. You can spend as much as you can afford on an amp and it won't address this particular problem. The Cary is a re-badged $1700 ATI, fyi. Again, you can't go wrong with the Halo or Cary (or ATI equivalent); they're all superb amps that you likely couldn't tell apart using just your ears, but none of them will impart an equal loudness curve or fix your room issues. Does ATI assemble their tube Pre's and tube Amps as well?
  14. Ha! And we continue to "know" or think we "know" where the line is drawn in the sand. Im just waiting for a young whipper snapper to drop by and blow it all up You're welcome. You know, too much of a good thing....err..uh...whatever
  15. Hooray, I love bug pictures almost as much as birds! Love the bee, but boo on more snow. In Arkansas? Cool ! I too enjoy taking insect pics, but most of the time they don't agree. Yes, more snow in the forecast for central AR. I don't think any actual accumulation is expected though. Great Grasshopper pic! Love the all natural grassland surround, that makes it so much better !
  16. Thanks everyone. More snow here Thurs. Come on warm temps! I need some Spring and Summer! Heck, its even cold in my office.
  17. About 2 inches of sleet and the low is gonna be around 12 here in central Arkansas. Come on Summer!
  18. Take them both back and get an external plug and play drive, your time is worth more than this crap.
