Thanks all! I love these speakers. They played the same music and this time my son joined the dance! hahaa...lol The music is by Rick James, Super Freak..... ;O BTW, I'm glad I've angled the speakers down; keeps the noise from bleeding out to my neighbors...hehee Love it!

Been looking and searching for speakers for my garange and my patience finally paid off. Introducing my '86 Heresy I HBR! Got the pair for $300 and I thought it was too good to pass. I set them up just below the ceiling angled between 20-25 degrees and the sound coming from these speakers are just beautiful and astounding. They're like mini-Scala... ; ) Connected to my old Pioneer 5.1 receiver, I left the FM radio running and went into the house then my daughter said, dad, what is that thumping sound coming from? Then...we started dancing to the beat...hehee I do lots of work in the garage so this new set is just going to make it that much more enjoyable when getting my hands dirty changing oils, etc.

Darn it...if you were 200 miles from me I'll drive it. Unfortunately, you're 837 miles from me... I'm in MO.

Couple of things have changed since then - went for a trip to South Dakota for the holidays and came back with my CL offer refused. My 2011 Jeep ran into issues and wife wasn't happy with it - a quote from dealer is a $900 repair...ugh. Wife said trade that jeep in so we did over the weekend - she's the financial boss. Now, bobdog made me jealous and so I'm gonna hold-out for a cornwall or heresy which ever comes first and price... : )

Those KSB are nice looking speakers - almost too nice for my messy garage.. ; ) . I made an offer to a local CL for a set of RS3 and if doesn't go through, I may consider those, that is if they will still be around.

I have a 3-car garage that needs TLC, one side is full of junks, so it's a two-car garage...but that's beside the point. I need a set of good speakers to hang in there - do you think two or four RS or SS would do? It will be powered by my old Pioneer receiver. I'd like something that can put out good volume to fill the garage so that I can enjoy listening to my classics as I play mechanic. : )

Wow, such a big difference. Not only more pleasing for the eyes to look at but sound should have improved as well. Great job.

If you have a dedicated HT room, I'd set it up high at least a foot down from ceiling. Then point speakers firing downward with angle crossing ear-level - I think you'll have much better surround effect that way, it's how I did mine....hint 'werenberg...werenberg...." ; ) Note, if you hang speakers and upset their angle, be sure to put extra cable for stability and safety. Your LFE can easily break them loose off the wall and possibly fall off - same goes with ground shake.

Two rw-12d is not enough. You need two or three more... If bad on Transformer and ok with 007, it could be the source; eg, the movie/media itself. Not all booms are coded the same. You could turn off all surround channels and let the center and lfe produce sound. If you still not getting the boom you want with all surround channels off, it's "probably" source. If the boom sounds better with only the center and lfe hooked up, you probably need more power. But I don't see how this would be since both subs have built-in amp. Without making other changes to your current speaker settings, play both movies - to check each other, and see if the result is constant and consistent with the above suggestions.

I'd say disable every other speaker in the channel and let the center play by itself and make receiver adjustment as needed. Depending on where your center is and your sitting location and distance, you may have to tilt-up/down the speaker - this is the biggest impact with respect to vocal enunciation, imho. I have my 64 laid flat, no tilt, at ~5ft from floor with me sitting about ~9ft away and the vocal output I was hearing was terrible. I then adjust it, tilting it down, so that angle of speakers are firing towards my sitting area and just about ~3ft above floor or at ear level. The change made such a big impact. I then adjust the volume setting as desired. See my draft for example. If you're mathematically inclined, I'm not, you can calculate the exact angle of tilt based on ear level and distance. What I did is got my two-way laser level and placed it at the center-side of the speaker and then marked the angle when the laser line was just about the ear level. I did the same for the res of my surrounds and the result is absolutely amazing. Try it.

Matrix is correct. lol, i can't believe some actualy haven't seen the movie yet. the first of the Matrix trilogy is the best, imo. The Matrix made famous with its introduction to the 360 angle shot of Trinity in the opening sequence and the bullet time revolutionized new shooting techniques in the film industry. Created with hi-def sound, RF or Heritage speaker surrounds are just the perfect speakers to drive all the sound effects. If you haven't seen it yet, you're still in the matrix..lol.

This is a classic yet unforgettable movie. I don't think anyone will need a clue... ; )

Wait....you already bought him the PS4? Lucky son he is... ; ) BTW, how does the LasScala and RF-8 being near together sound like? I'm sure it sounds amazing, loud and clear, but is there any sign of timbre mismatch or sound anomalies? You have one awesome home HT. When I win the Lottery, I'll have one as big as your HT. For now, I just look at your HT and dream... ; )

no offense but that is not a valid claim. i understand you had a bad experience with "your" particular unit, but bought used it had a totally unknown past. fact is there are 10's or hundreds of thousands of these receivers in use with no problems at all. No offense taken. I guess I should have say "stay away from used ht-r960". Reason I suggest that is becasue of the complexity of the HDMI board - if the HDMI board goes bad, which seems to be a common problem on Onkyo receivers, your'e SOL. I bought a used ht-r960 and it had issues with HDMI - apparently the seller "failed" to tell me about it. The HDMI ports are not complete failure, however, they work after a couple of minutes when the receiver had enough time to energize the caps - before that I just see a "No signal" on screen. The youtube video listed the 960 and 706 as compatible and cap can be replaced the same way. I opened my 960 and found the HDMI board to be much different and is almost no possible way to replace the caps, at least not by hand. On each cap underside, there is another type of transistor attached. So, if you remove the cap; unsolder it, the transistor under it will fall-off, or at least that what it seems to be. Anyone looking for Onkyo receiver, stay away from ht-r960. If anyone want to buy my 960, I'll set it to you for cheaps...

I recently purchased a used Onkyo HT-R960 7.1, 130w x 7 BUT I'm not thrilled. The sound is way too mellow and kind of flat for my taste. I tried changing many different audio settings but I could not get the same performance, or better, from my old Pioneer. HT-R960 is now on up for sale. Anyone? My old Pioneer VSX-D309, low-power 60w x 5, non-hdmi, using only optical for digital input, produced much better sound and richer notes coming from the RF3ii. When playing Titanium from Youtube, through Apple TV, notes from the piano and pitch from the cello is much more clear and crisp I can't get from the Onkyo.

Amazing, same situation here. My friends have PS and we don't. When we have get-togethers, my son would play with the rest of the kids on the PS. One day my son said, "dad, why can't we have a PS?". Well first of all the console is expensive and so does the games - I can't make it too easy for him... So, I too made an arrangement with him. If he gets a final grade of A in math, we "probably" can get one. He said, "dad, what if I get an A-", I said we'll then your mom will have the final words. As of last chapter test, he's doing A-. I kept on reminding him he'll need to do better. They only have two more chapters left before the final exam. And to be honest, if he makes an A- on final grade, we're getting one...but don't tell him that

I think you should enjoy the work of your labor as much when you can. You gave up countless hours from start to completion so it's time for your HT to payback. Half of your happines goes to the thrill and excitement of building the HT and half+enjoyment++ goes to using it. Like you, there isn't much more for me to improve my HT - there are some but not critical. So what's left for me do is to enjoy using it watching my favorite movies and blasting them speakers until the walls tremble - this is the end-result and is what makes me happy. It's Friday, plan on one movie, pop and butter some corns, and go use your HT and I'll do the same...

I have RC-64 with La Scala for main and it sounds great all togehter. Technically, my LCR is not timber-matched, but my ear could not tell the difference if there was one. I watched Serenity and Stealth the other night and the hi-frequency sounds moved "flawlesly" between center-main-to-sides as far as my hearing detection is concerned. If you had Klipsch for center and then brand-X for front and sides, hi-freq may sound weird as it jumps from one speaker to the other. Since you have all Klipsch all arround, your 64 and 62s will complement each other and all is well in ther universe.

not quite rc64ii (I do have 1 as center) but I am toying with the idea of running twin rc62iis as rear surrounds. I have 1 as single rear surround and it is pretty good NOT, a bad idea... and more cost effective! I want to know who is going to be the first to try it so I went ahead and got a 2nd rc62ii. I have sold my synergy f30 that I had as surrounds so twin rc62iis for surrounds now. Very impressed, long term goal is aquire another set of reference towers for surrounds and have the 2 rc62s as rear surrounds. Would love to see your setup. Post pic when you can

U-571 - it has great tight LFE - explosions, depth charges, etc. I set avr to -19dB sitting 9-foot away from the mains and sub.
