  1. tblasing.....Yes, finally....I picked up a Music Hall MMF-5 a couple weeks ago and am really happy with it so far. Just tonight I was listening to some Fleetwood Mac and wow, it was just incredible. How anyone can sit through lovely Stevie belting out Dreams and not have every hair on there arms stand straight up is beyond me. That's one thing I've noticed the most with this table compared to my C.D. player, the vocals on vinyl are just more spacious and real. Anyway, thanks for the response.....
  2. As I write this I have 700.00 Transparent Audio speaker cables in my system. These were loaned out to me for a few weeks to experiment with. My reference cables are some Esoteric Premiers that ran around 80.00 dollars for the pair. Can I tell a vast difference is sound between the two? I really can't. I do notice that the Transparent cables reduce some noise. This was very apparent on the Tracy Chapman, New Beginning C.D. On track 9, Give me one reason to stay here, I would get a bad resonance, blaring noise out of the horn on my left CF-2. This was the only C.D. in my collection that this blaring noise was apparent. This was only at loud listening levels. Anyway, when I was auditioning these new cables I ran across this C.D. and played this track. To my amazement there was absolutely no blaring at all. I figured I must not have had the volume as high as the previous times with the other cables, so I cranked it up and still nothing. In my disbelief I ran into my closet and grabbed my old cables and quickly placed them back into the system....sure enough, the blaring noise was back. This wasn't a slight noise either, it was rather piercing. If these cables can eliminate such a noise I have to believe they are quieting much more during normal playback. I haven't had time to fully audition them so the verdict is still out. Will I buy this particuliar cable....probably not, but I am going to experiment with some other speaker cables. By the way Drewzter, interconnects can make a vast difference in the sound of your system, much more than speaker cable in my opinion. Good Luck......
  3. Guys.....need some help. I'm just looking for an everyday brush for some cleaning of my records. Been looking at the Discwasher D4, Audioquest carbon fiber brush, decca brush, Hunt brush, and the Orbitrac kit. Does anyone use any of these and with what results. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.....
  4. Robert....I run a purely two-channel system and I've had great luck with Adcom. Enjoy the sound and durability, especially for the price of their amps. Later...
  5. Electrostatics can be extremely difficult to live with. Placement is really crucial with a large room a must since the speakers need to be placed far into the room for desired sound. Also there extreme fluctuating impedances can make matching a power amps a never ending circus. For the high prices most electrostatics go for and the fact that my house already has enough dust collectors I'll stick with Klipsch.
  6. DWK....This is why Klipsch doesn't need to add a cheap amp to the quintets or any other lower priced speaker combo.
  7. tpaige....The sub won't be a problem but those titans probably will have a distinct different sound than the RF-3's. Paradigms, atleast all the models I've ever heard are far more mellow/warm, not as direct or in your face as most most Klipsch. Not that the Paradigms aren't good speakers because most of there stuff is. You just might be better off keeping the sub and picking up some matching Klipsch for your surrounds...Good luck.......
  8. Kenratboy.....I would have to agree with bensilb here. In that price range you'd be best off going with a nice receiver with all the functions you need. A nice receiver, which for a grand you'll be able to get a real nice one, will most certainly be able to drive any reference speakers to ear bleeding levels if needed. Good Luck........
  9. Zargathos.....Welcome....I'll make this really short....Your not going to get more speaker for the money anywhere else.....unless your willing to buy used.....
  10. It's finally over....I gave up on my old Bang@Olufsen table due to a number of reasons that I won't get in to right now. Last weekend I went and bought a Music Hall MMF-5. Love it so far, but I haven't really had the opportunity to sit and listen for any extended amount of time. The thick glass platter looks awesome on my stereo rack. I will be doing a lot of comparisons later this week on just how well this table sounds against my Adcom C.D. player. Obviously the sound will be different but that doesn't nessasarily mean better, I'll just have to wait and see. Also, my favorite sales guy loaned me out a pair of 700.00 speaker cables. I know, I know, I know, I have been somewhat of critic of high priced speaker wire but this is going to be my chance to hear what benefits, if any, speaker cable in this price range can make. One things for sure, the looks of this cable are beautiful. I almost want to skip hooking them up and just hang them on the wall. I will let you all know how they fare with my exsisting wire which is much, much, cheaper. Later....
  11. Mace....Take an old thick foam mouse pad you have laying around your house and cut it into squares a little larger than the exsisting feet on your Receiver and C.D. player and place them under the components. This free vibration solution works just as well as most multi-dollar devices......Good luck......
  12. discorules.....Forget sending your refund check to the New York state education department. I think all you liberals should send your checks down south to Florida's education department. That way they could jump start a program in elementary school that teaches youngsters the proper way to read and complete a ballot effectively. Good ole boys huh? You really don't want to start comparing character here do you? Finally, Hillary getting elected really does sum it up. What a JOKE. Remember it takes a village to raise your kids these days..............
  13. mace.....When your ears get used to the sound of your new speakers that's when you know they are broken in. Should take about a minute. Enjoy your 30's......
  14. TampaEd.....What is it about your current system that you would like to improve on? Once you narrow that down you can zero in on just what upgrade/equipment change will satisfy your needs. Keep us updated..later
  15. The CF-2's have an efficiency of 98db, 1w/1m. Moderation! What's that? Demented....what type of tube amp are you considering building and are you totally set on going that route? I have never heard any Epic's ran off tubes, would be interested to find out what you come up with. Later..
  16. dennis.......I run all Transparent cables....Can't go wrong there, great build quality and sound. You might want to consider running Transparent speaker cable also, as they mate with the characteristics of the interconnects in any chosen price range.
  17. Guys......everything is plugged into a power conditioner. The noise I'm speaking of is just more of hiss and it's not very bad, and since I liked the sound better running through my preamp it doesn't matter anyway. Running through the preamp, all tone controls bypassed always, my system is very quiet. Just heard good things about running directly out of your players and wanted to experiment with it for awhile. Later......
  18. For the past week or so I've been experimenting a little on my set up. I've been running variable outs on my C.D. player directly into my amp, bypassing my preamp altogether. All my interconnects are Transparent audio's so thats a constant and wouldn't change anything in the new set up. I noticed a slightly more open, but slightly bright midrange. Nothing dramatic at all. It also seemed to me that there was a slight increase in line noise, which I'm sure is related to the slightly more open midrange. Needless to say this line noise drove me nuts and I will be changing back to running my C.D. player through my preamp. Also your limited on your volume gain when running through your player, and my preamps remote is much more ergonomic the my C.D. players. It doesn't hurt to try something new, even though in this case it was detrimental. Have any of you two-channel guys out there ran this way and what were your results? Later..........
  19. Sold.....sometimes you have to draw the line. I have a wife and three kids and my Epic's aren't going anywhere. If you listen to a lot of two-channel music your going to regret getting rid of those CF-3's forever, especially going to a sub/sat system. Tell her you'll do the dishes for a month or something.
  20. Besides the current heritage models did any other Klipsch speakers such as some cornwalls-forte-chorus come with woven cane grills as an option. I'm thinking they didn't because I've never seen any. I just love the looks of the old cane and when I build a second Two-channel system I would love to get some cane grills on some older oak speakers.
