If your opinion is "Forget all this and just put the money into Cornwalls and remain solid state" I would also listen. I am new to all of this.

Cheap tube amps are just that. Look around, learn what you can, then shop on the used market for a well built one.

However, if it was my money, Cornwalls!

    what came in first place?

The Integra, though the SMSL sounds very good as well. The Benchmark may be showings its age but still more natural sounding than the Topping.

I have read nothing but good things about the Topping D90 MQA.  There are two D90 versions.  The non MQA @$699 and the MQA @$799.  Unfortunately, these are seldom discounted and seldom seen on the secondary market.  The Topping is on my wish list.  My current listening is generally 70% Tidal HD streaming and 30% vinyl.  My current DAC is Arcam irDac, which I have had for a few years.  The irDac is not MQA compatible.  However I do have an Aurender N100h which does a partial MQA unfold.  I am extremely happy and often shocked with what I end up hearing at my ear drums. (Using Primaluna Prologue Premium integrated amp and Forte iiis)

I bought the non MQA D90 last fall when I found a decent deal on one. Spent some time with my wife directly comparing it to the built in dac in our Integra DHC 80.3 as well as an old Benchmark DAC and a relatively inexpensive SMSL dac. The D90 came in last place and was returned. I was quite surprised given all the glowing reviews but my violinist wife was rather rude about its shortcomings. 🤣

  4. Always hard to tell until you do it. It really helped my Cornwalls but they were built 20 years before your Forte II. I have a Forte as a center channel between the Cornwalls and have not done anything to it, it still sounds just fine. I'm betting yours are fine unless the speakers were stored somewhere electronically unfriendly. YMMV

  5. These really are a bargain price for a more than decent sub. I own 2 F20 horn subs and a tuba table. Comparing them to the 12SW is like comparing Jubes to the KG series. However in the right setup these do a great job!

Your understanding is wrong. But it’s your speaker. do what you want. Just don’t call it a la scala anymore.......

    With all due deference...

I come to this forum for interesting opinions and some excellent information. I do not come here for drama. I do not like seeing someone who is new seeming subjected to abuse (esp. from someone like "Chief Bonehead").

I really enjoy my Klipsch speakers. I also enjoy playing with older models and trying to wring the best possible sound that I can from them. My 1976 Klispchorns have large EV horns and DH1A drivers in place of the original mid horn/drivers. I now have them time aligned using and Ashly unit as well. They are mine. They are Klispchorns. I do not need anyone's permission to call them that.

  7. Just approached by a scammer on this forum:

New member "Samson269" sent me the following message:

"Well if u are still interested in getting Xilica processorXilica processor I have a friend who can help u with that. Not sure if it’s still available but you can try. A quick Google search on the email address comes up with lots of scammer complaints

  8. Remember since the LaScala bass is a horn, it’s low range is limited by the length of the horn (think tuba vs trumpet). You can put any driver in you want to but it does not change that basic fact. You can change the output but not the range.

The LaScala needs a good sub and with that rivals the longer Klipschorn with the added benefit of not requiring corners.
