  1. I've had 2 pairs of Cornwalls over the last 20 years.  1978 versions, mostly stock, and 1985 II's, mostly stock.  They were "ok" but neither lasted long.  It was mainly the room they were in where the Epic CF-3's just annihilated them in most every respect.  But I've heard them in other rooms where they did quite well.  As far as the IV's go, I'm sure they sound great but I would never consider paying retail price for sure and probably not the used pricing.  But that's just me.

  2. Hmm....ad is still up.  Surprising.  Maybe it's the location part.  There's a pair of '87 Khorns that have been on FB Marketplace in south AR for $8k for quite a few months now.  May be there a lot longer.  I wish my upstairs short wall was wider than 15' as I have two good corners; but I don't want to put them in such a small area.  My long wall is 28' but not laid out where it would work.

They do indeed like power, which was a big realization after getting used to my friend's various Heritage models before buying my Epics.

I recently sold my 100wpc Rotel RX-1052 receiver after 15 years of reliable and pretty much daily use, so I wasn't concerned about not having a warranty. My preamp was open box on Audio Advice so that does have a warranty and I suppose that may be the more complicated product. But if a used one would have been available, I wouldn't have hesitated. The amp was used.

How are you liking that preamp and amp so far?  Still eyeballing one of those preamps over going the Schiit route and having to add a DAC, phono preamp, etc.  Would rather have less gear.

I just got off the phone with Valspar Co., Got transferred twice, no one knew anything about a valspar #40 sheen, lol. I'm just going to buy the one for cabinets, I'm pretty sure is going to look good! I will upload few pictures after.

I agree.  If you get a good quality Satin black, I'm sure they will be just fine.

  5. Back in 2017, I think it was, when I repainted a set of KLF-30's back to satin black, I just used a good brush and they looked excellent.  Also, IIRC, that certain Valspar #40 Satin Black is no more and you have to find someone at Lowes, or elsewhere, that knows a few things about paint.  That may be tough, though.

Edit...it was 2015 when I painted them.  Here is some info from back then.

  6. @Erald  You are using the R-41PM's remote control sub volume as well, correct?  My thought would be to set the sub volume fairly high and then use the sub control on the remote.  This is a new sub or used?  Any other device that you can connect it to just to make sure it's good to go.  Looks to be a pretty cut and dried hookup.

Old thread, but I finally bought a house, renovated it (mostly so far) and got the system settled. I added some power and these is indeed a pretty big difference. 200wpc now. A friend and I did A/B test it. It really does sound more alive. :)

Interesting as I've been contemplating that same Rotel preamp and amplifier on the used market as well.  The hardest time I have with used is the no warranty thing....even if the item is 6 months old since warranty is non-transferrable.  I've used my same fully rebuilt Carver C-1 pre (with added remote volume) and M-1.0t amp for over a decade now and kind of wanted some newer gear but, I'm a tight *** and won't pay retail.  lol.  I was in that industry for 25 years and spent the last 9 years as a manufacturers rep and there are some things I can still buy at cost or rep sample price.  But the problem is, the stupid world we live in now where there are constant shortages.  The other setup I've looked at is the Parasound P6 with the A23+ amp as I can get them for cost.  Or, I'll buy either the Rotel or Parasound preamp and keep using my Carver amp which is rated at 460wpc.  I like power.  Those who say 5 or 10 watts is enough power on Epics don't own Epics.  These speakers are NOT realistic on their sensitivity rating and they do like power.
