  1. I just want to know how this is going to sound, yes will be hacking a pair of CWs but if that is what a man wants that is what he gets. I bet it will sound great can't wait.
  2. I don't know how much different the bass department is between the Cornscalas and the 19s are. But you could build split bass bins/top hats and swap out the k400/k77 top hat with the altec 811b top hat and decide for your self. Heck depending were you are located, if you wanted I have a pair of EV Regency cabs you could have to play around with too. I was going to use the cabs as bass bins and build separate top hats to play around with until I located my KHorn bass bins.
  3. ousig. When I looked at TVs earlier this year, I noticed they didn't post the contrast ratio when asked about this I received the same answer you posted. But I will say that we compared higher end plasmas and higher lcds and higer leds. I still didn't care for the pics on plasmas. Those are some great deals on some of those tvs, at least I know what to look for and to shop to get the best price. Now just to get the entertainment center done first.
  4. I have never been big on the plasmas, I have a higher contrast Sony Bravia that I think still has a great pic. I have been looking at the 55" diag. that can be had for around 1500.00 or less. Fish, I have never tried any LG product. I have seen some of the Samsung units and Sharp units. I was told alot of these TVs are made on the same assy. line. Not that, that really matters just something that is good quality and good pic. I do like the deal on the LG you mentioned I will have to keep my eye out.
  5. I was thinking of building a new entertainment center if I built it to the hight of my center channel I can slide my center channel in it. Which would give me more space for gear. I would then set the tv on top of the entertainment center instead of the wall like I have it. Then I could move the mount and tv I have now down stairs killing several birds with one stone. My question what is a good tv I like the led, lcd screens I would be looking for something around the 56" size. Smart tvs aren't a must but if that is all that is out there now I guess it would be fine.
  6. I am running the table tuba long style with my Khorns just for music right now. All are receiving about 125 watts I couldn't believe the bass I was noticing from the ttls I have no eq on it. I did take the ttls to my buddies house and tried it in is ht and it shook the house. I have herd the rel subs and they sound really nice. I would think you could go with either or and the right preamp setup and you would be fine. I some day hope to try my Khorns or Heresies with some SET amps. I bet it would sound very nice.
  7. Seems to be downloading to my comp. Dang they are big, over 2 mins for the first one.
  8. Well that makes since now.
  9. I have the cab done, I haven't had the extra cash to pick up any type of dsp. Is there a way to build a passive hpf for now to protect my sub. Would I need the tuning frequency of the cab, or just shot for something around 100-140 hz.
  10. Did I win yet, how about a pair of those headphones.
  11. Mark I think you hit it on the nose, I was able to take the woofer over to my buddies house which has a finsihed basement. I stuck it into the corner of his 30x15 or bigger room and hooked it up to his plate amp running his 2 10" inwalls, yes I disconnected them by the way. Anyways all I can say is now I need to start a different thread on how to properly secure all my vents, registers, and drywall to keep them from rattling. I noticed everything in his basement was rattling and that could be a bit annoying if you know what I mean. No air slap from the woofer either.
  12. Posted on Bills site he replyed it was normal, and should go away when placed against a wall. If it doesnt then to glue a piece of 1/2" felt carpet padding should take care of it. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I get to try it out at my buddys place since his basement is finished, and he has the proper amp with crossover filters. Right now I am just running 20-25hz test tones through it.
  13. I guess I will do what the both of you are saying, I have read how to check for leaks but I don't get how you can fully check them and if you were to find one up the beging of the folds how you could stop them.
  14. Heres a link to what I have built. http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/TT.html I could post this in the forum over there but I really don't see a appropriate spot for it. So I call upon the woofer guys here for advice or what the issue is or maybe nothings wrong at all. First I tested the woofer in the baffle before installing the baffle no cone or surround slap at all, which I know there still isn't. But there is air port on the back of the driver were air is coming from and smacking the wood behind the driver causing a air slap sound. Here is the driver I used which in recommended via the plans. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=295-202&FTR=dayton%20dcs255-4. any thing would be greatly appreciated. Maybe it will go away once the opening is pushed up against the wall. Thanks Duder and yes this thing shakes my basement in poor placement I cant wait to get my basement finished so I can properly get this place to really see how it does, I just need to figure out the air slapping sound.
  15. That is insane, do you know the design of the tapped horns he used was, and why does he need 4000 watts per cab. I am working on 2 of Bill Fitzmaurice's tt long styles for my basement system housing a single ten each. I will using a audio centron rma-1000 power amp for both. I was looking at that mini-dsp, I think Cecaa recommended it to me, did you see how it was programmed. I know I won't get the same out put since he had the ib sub along with it but, this makes me move a little faster on getting the project done, I currently am building one cab as we speak. Thanks for the pics and the story, I remember one of my first Klipsch experiences the guy had 4 15" Yamaha's along with 2 Heresies, 2 Cornwalls, there was smoke coming from one of the Heresies then a pop and all the lights went out. Nothing like knocking down power in a whole sub devision but still cool when the power goes out. Guess this means we all love it concert loud.
  16. This looks like it can get expensive but I think worth it. I might just give it a try, I will report back if I ever get back to it.
  17. Very nice, some day I would love to visit your country and learn your language. A couple of my fav. Heavy metal bands are from there. Welcome to the forum, and you do some nice work.
  18. My son isn't old enough to take care of things like this when he is and is ready he will have a system, but my 9 year old daughter received some 45s from a friend of mine. Now she has a technics tt sourced to a Sansui receiver I picked up off cl with CD player and cabinet all for 10 dollars. My father in law gave me his yamahas from the 80s that house some 15s. She thinks she can shake the house until dad kicks on his system[]. My first two channel system was some no name speakers and a pioneer receiver that I kick my self in the head for giving to my cousin that just threw it away when it quit working. It was replaced by a another Pioneer receiver I bought 15 years ago when I was 15 with money I saved from my paper route that I bought from circuit city as well. Funny how some others kind of have the same story, Pioneer, Circuit City, paper routes. I still have that same receiver in the garage I am currently repairing for my work. I also am currently using the 6 disc CD changer I bought and my dad is using the tape deck I bought. Funny back then I had a better system in my room then my parents did(but then again they didn't even have a system). Now that my mom is out of the house my dad does[6].
  19. wow did you draw that up, I take it the green damping material is green glue, what is the dyrwall furring channel oh wait the furring channel would be like furring strips to attach the drywall to. I have seen the isolation clips that makes since. I would think you would need a solid layer of the green glue so would/could you but a 5 gallon bucket with a roller to apply. The hardest part would be to install the strips of drywall between the rafters over all the duct work, but is a very good idea.
  20. So just going with double layers of sheet rock with green glue would be best. Is there anything that can be added In the rafters between the floor and celling, that would help such as fiberglass insulation or something of the sort.
  21. Ya the only time a bot is good. But I must ask while I am here, My ht room mainly has concrete walls so for sound proofing through them is not a big issue. But sound proofing through the celling to the upstairs is a issue. I was planing on use 5/8 drywall, but I was looking at other things I can add that will help as well, such as adding a rubber membrane, or even using some of that green glue everyone has been talking about on the rafters that the 5/8 drywall will attach to. I will have to check prices but it might be more cost effective to add the second layer of 5/8 drywall then to use a rubber membrane. I all ready priced out the green glue so that isn't a extra cost. But I was told just adding any r value insulation will make a dramatic deference.
  22. ah very nice, how do you like em.
  23. Very nice of you, I feel great when I give a friend or family member a system to enjoy.
  24. I can only get 5x5s of Baltic birch from local lumber yards, it runs about 30-35. I can get arauco 4x8s for about 35.00 at most big box stores. Depending on the project and how much I need depends what I use. If the box is small enough like the custom drift/surround speakers I made I used mdf. To me it looked as if the Fortes I had were mdf veneered but I could be wrong, I would think if that was true then sticking with mdf would be just fine. Since they don't have that many weird angles, I would use one of those kregg jigs and a good glue they seem to help with making solid boxes.
  25. My wife and kids are brain washed to never put anything other then picture frames. My wife said its funny to watch me during parties as I follow behind people picking up their drinks off of my speakers. You could get a piece of glass cut to size maybe some 1/4" smoked or clear would look cool, get em cut to size for the tops.
