  1. I've readalot of good stuff about sunfire products, I however have no personal experience with theTG. I recently sold my onkyo 805 to go the route you're looking into. I lost bells and whistles but what i gained in sound quality trumps the HDMI switching. I had a sunfire HRS10 sub, i think it was around 800 bucks, tiny little 12x12x12 cube my wife though was cute, it did look nice in it's piano gloss black. It was an absolute great performer for it's size, tremendous output, clean tight bass, great for music, good for movies. It was nice for placement options because of its size, I ultimately returned it and purchased and SVS PB13 Ultra.
  2. maybe you'll soon get the "Ultra" experience that SVS has to offer.....
  3. In my Stage One there's is this option Analog Input Level Separate input level adjustments are available for each analog input. You can reach them from the Setup page on the remote control. Pressing the Input Gain +/- will bring up the analog input level adjustment. Choose a dynamic passage from the analog source and turn the analog input gain up until Clipping is indicated in the top left-hand corner of the front-panel display. Turn the gain down again in half-decibel steps until the clipping indicator goes off. What is the point or reason behind this? I'm also not sure I understand the difference between Gain and Volume, is there a correalation?
  4. Don't think about bi-amping as the sum of both channels. ie 130wpc + 75wpc is not the equivalent of 205wpc. A setup such as 130wpc + 75wpc is not really a great thing to do with the passive crossovers in the klipsch gear, if you actively bi-amp would be a better scenario. 75wpc to the high end and the 130wpc to the low end. Keep in mind though that with the passive xovers in the Synergy series and the Reference series will share both the power from the pioneer and what ever other amp you decide on. So if you have one amp that has more distortion is will inevitbaly have an effect on the other amps power within the speakers. Bi-amping klipsch speakers such as the reference and synergy series should be biamped with close to the if not exact the same amp specs as to not cause to much intereence within the speaker itself. Your speakers will work the same with the jumpers removed believe it or not.
  5. i think I spoke prematurely as the amp still makes powering down sounds when well... powering down even after waiting. How long should I wait? I've waited 5mins and 15 mins and still made the sound.
  6. DrWho what do you mean short the inputs? I know what shorting is but I don't know how/what you mean with the amp Larry....I read that post about the guys speakers hissing when not connect to anything and I'm glad to report.... i do not have this issue....thank goodness.
  7. Not sure if the hiss is just white noise comming through on my RF5's or not So here's what I've tried to locate the perp. I've disconnected everything from the preamp (stage one) besides the outs that go the the amp, there's still a hiss, when both components are ON, when the pre-amp goesOFF and the amp is left ON all is quiet.I then disconnected the interconnects between the two and left only the speaker wire, when the amp is ON there is a hiss. Both components are connected to a Power Conditioner/ EF-RF filter and still maintain the hiss. The Hiss volume does not increase with the Volume control and stays constant across all inputs. I've unplugged the sub to make sure nothing was going on there, I have NOT disconnected everything from the power conditioner (is this my next step). I've been reading for the last couple of days to find some solutions. The one component I did disconnect from the power condtioner was the cable box as I'm sure the hard drive can cause some nasty interference. I unplugged the interconnects from the preamp to the amp one at a time to see if there was a bad cable , no luck there but switched them all out anyways, I've checked all the speaker terminations and everything is snug and tight. I'm looking for some more solutions or will I just have to live with it because I'm sure I can . Thanks for the input guys.
  8. just make sure you get category 2 HDMI cables so you can get the full bandwidth of the new HD formats video and audio
  9. Thanks Frank, I have powered the amp down manually as others stated and the sound was gone. I have the Aragon 2005 hooked to the RPC 120 by mondial (not sure if it provides surge protection). the reason I don't have it hooked to the power conditioner is because when I watch movies or listen to music with the vollume up the power condtioner (APC h10) clips and goes into overload and shuts down. I thought 1000VA would be enough for my devices but it's not so I had to put my sub and the amp on different power supplies to watch movies as my listening levels.
  10. That is indeed me, i've been asking around what other remotes users have had success with in controlling the stage one with no luck. I've got the pronto neo on its way i found one on craigslist for 45 bucks, I'm hoping I can teach the commands to my harmony remote and be done with the issue. As for the best buy thing, I stick it to them aswell. They have a great return policy when you purchase the warranty plan. They don't check the problems half the time and tell you to go pick a new one out, that's my upgrade option.
  11. Just toa dd a little more to what carbon said , my experience with Harmony's customer service has been horrible. Hopefully you don't have any problems after 60 days because they no longer offer phone support to customers with accounts that are older than 60 days. I'm sure they take care of you when you're a new customer after that, they already have your money so why help A little more on my story, I upgraded (kind of) to an Aragon Stage One that was not fully supported by the Harmony remote, I found a FAQ that said how to get a device supported with the Pronto Hex Codes. I send them 1x, says a 3 day waiting period for a response 7 days later I recieve a generic e-mail saying thatnk for contacting Harmony. "Sabah H" ask me to desribe the problem and which commands I'd like added. IF he/they would have read the e-mail it was very throuough on the issues I was Having. So I re-send my intial description and get a reply back saying I'm sending it from the wrong e-mail address, so i verify the e-mail address and send it again, same thing they tell me I can update the e-mails associated with the account both my e-mails are already there. So I call and ask politley what's giong on,. he verfies my e-mail and says he is sending a survey "right now". The survey shows up 6 days later and I still can't get them the e-mail. I start a new case with the reference number in the subject copy and pste all e-mails and tell them what's going on. After a few more days of waiting I get a response saying they coud not convert the file but had some essential functions, it's wierd that they weren't avaiable when I added the device intially but now you have some more commands. Well I loaded them hoping they would work..... Out of 15 of them not a single 1 worked, and then the poweron and power off where messed up. So i had to delete the device, re add it and re update my remote. Needless to say I still have minimal control over my stage one, Harmony's customer service was not so good in my case but I still Love the Remote
  12. I'll give that a try, I know the stored up energy in the 2005 has to go somewhere when dissipating the energy I wasn't sure if it's suppose to make any sound. It's not loud and doesn't last but about 3 or 4 seconds. The Onkyo I had didn't do that but it also always had power to it. I thought having it on a switched outlet and shutting it down has something to do with the drainage sound.
  13. They look like RS grills to me, you can see where the wedges are cut out so they will fold around the older RS surrounds. The RS7 looked versy similiar as the 2 far sides look flat where the velcro might be, they don't look as big as the RS7s either. I could be wrong though.
  14. I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. The 2005 is the only thing hooked up to a switched outlet. The 12v trigger from the Stage One Controls the switched outlets which only the 2005 is connected to. THe StageOne is powered by my power conditioner, it is a non-switched outlet. So the Stage One and the 2005 are on different power supplies.
  15. I have my Aragon 2005 amp hooked up to a switch outlet (not sure if this is important) when I shut everything off at the end of the day the amp makes a draining sound that can be heard through the speakers is this normal with seperates?
  16. I don't particularly care for the type o fmusic he plays but is definitely HIS music if you know what I mean. He can truly play the guitar, which I think I questioned when he first came out. If you get a chance you ought to see him when he played with Buddy Guy, it runs on Palladia Music Channel. Good Stuff.
  17. The Parchman Brothers, Hamilton Loomis (Buddy guy protege), Taj Ma Hal, maybe some Leon Redbone if you like that kind of thing. I've got some others I can't think of off hand. When I listen next I'll jot the names down.
  18. PCM is a digital representation of an analog signal
  19. yeah i got that off the specs page too. Would it be beneficial?
  20. no, i'm using the analog out via the cd player, no digital out on the CD player, when I use the digital out on the PS3 or the xbox the sound is way different than the analog outs on the cd player.
  21. DrWho, Speakers stay on "Large" when going from one input to the next, the processor stores each source input settings into memory. I've went through and verified the speaker settings, levels, cross-overs and size, everything is the same when going from "direct" to "stereo". From my understanding the Stage One does an A/D conversion when the source input is an analog connection and set to "stereo" and does no convervison when the "direct" mode is selected. The "direct" mode sends the signal to it's "audiophile" quality analog preamp with no alterations, I prefer this mode as it sounds much fuller. The stage one sounds great with it's D/A and A/D conversion but the sound is completly different from one another, maybe it's shotty DACs in the CD player and in the Cable box but none the less sounds much different to my ears aswell as others who have listened to it. Could it just be that the analog pre-amp in the stage one is doing that much different of a process than the digital side to evoke such contrasting sounds ? I have never been a big fan of the "direct" mode for 2ch listening on other recievers because of the same reasons you stated, lack of bass and sounding dull, the stage one is 180 degrees in that respect, then again it could be the DACs of the devices I'm using aswell. I wondered if others had these same thoughts/experiences if anyone ever comes to the Omaha NE metro area is welecome to stop by and hear the difference for themselfs.
  22. why does analog and digital audio sound so much different? Maybe it's my setup or the DAC's in one or the other. I upgraded from an onkyo 805 to a stage one and 2005 combo, I have a cheap 25 disc player by pioneer that I use for CD's (looking to upgrade), I also have an xbox, ps3 and a cable box that i've used to listen to music. The pioneer sounds great (RCA connections in direct mode) with the stage one, seems to be fuller on the lower end but doesn't loose the mids or high much. When using the digital out from the xbox or ps3 (pcm) the lower end seems to shrink and the high end becomes more pronounced. When using my cable box on the music channels (both pcm and dd 2.0) the sound is similiar to that of the xbox and ps3, seems to lack in the lower end, when I hook the cable box up with RCA and put the stage one in 'direct' mode wham the low end becomes fuller again. What's the deal? The direct mode on the stage one sounds great but when in stereo it does an A/D conversion and seems to loose some of the low end? Anyone else seem to notice these changes when listening to analog vs digital signals? I've grown up in this "digital" age but I think I'm starting to like the analog sound better. is there any reason the 2 should sound so completely different because IMO it's like I have 2 different systems.
  23. Just curious if anyone had any thoughts on this particular CD player, there's a guy locally selling one and I was just wondering how it might sound? Any impressions would be appreciated.
  24. As laager said, i would cross the sub over at a much lower point for music. I felt 80Hz was too high when listening to music, I cross my RF5's over at 55Hz and feel this was the best for my listening tastes, higher and i was also reaching to turn the sub down from track to track.
