  1. Oh here's the things I love to do but neve get a chance to because I am too busy doing stuff around the house and "Honeydo's". -Ride my Suzuki GSXR -Restoring my 67 RS/SS Camaro -Golfing -Building anything But I always make time to play with my sons and dogs and enjoy my wifes company. EJ
  2. Yea I am not sure how elevating the sub will work but I am going to try it and see. I just would rather have it in the air due to children/dogs/peoples feet as it will be right next to a traffic area and the RSW series have the outwoard firing woofers rather than downward. I have a sub on my rear LaScala now and the bass is awesome and it is up in the air so I think I will try it. Anyway you can see pics of the LaScala in the air in my previous post under this heading called "HT Pics Finally". I hope to get the pics out before the weekend. Next weekend I am going to elevate the final LaScala. Jason you will have to come by one of these days and see the system. EJ
  3. I've got both of the Cornwalls hanging from the ceiling as well as both Heresey's on the Front Effects channel. It's quite a site to walk into a room and see LaScala's and Cornwalls suspended in the air. You have to walk right under one of the Cornwalls when you enter the room and you really don't even know it's there until you look up. They sound great, pics to follow soon. All that is left now is the rear LaScala. I think I am going to hang the RSW-15 directly underneath it for the rear sub. EJ
  4. oops my very first double post
  5. Bruins, I picked up a roll of 500' of 4 strand 12 AWG in wall CL3 copper strand wire from Smarthome for like $300. I have combined 4 wires to 2 to make an effective 9 AWG for my stuff since I could not find anything this thick in near the price range. The brand is there own brand but worked great. The website is www. smarthome.com. It's the cheapest good wire I could find for in the walls. Unfortuantley I used almost all of the wire. Link to page: http://www.smarthome.com/8420.html EJ
  6. xxx, Wire GUAGE is a standard set to determine the thickness(diameter) of any given wire. In America we use the standard AWG(American Wire Guage). A 16 AWG is .05" thick. Technically though the weight of the wire determines the guage set by US standards however the guage is directly related to it's thickness in most cases. By this I mean that a 16 AWG copper wire will not be the same thickness as a 16AWG aluminum wire due to the different specific gravity of the two metals. I am sure if you go online and check around you can find some detailed information. EJ
  7. Just a comment here. If you have never heard an SVS sub you are in for a big surprise when it comes to earth-shaking deep bass. You will be impressed, guarenteed. EJ
  8. Kenratboy, First and formost look in the engine compartment and make sure that everything that looks like it should be hooked up is. Sounds like either the choke or possibly a leaky gasket. Spray carb cleaner around the base of the carb and the the manifold where it meets the block. If it increases in RPM this means that there is a leak. Just carefully tighten the nuts a little to see if it will seal. Sometimes a small leak will cause it to quit when it is cold and give it a rough idle. The choke is a no brainer. Take of the air cleaner and start it. Look at the top of the carb to see if the choke is closing. If not it's the choke. Hope this helps. EJ
  9. Great post Colin. I agree entirely. EJ
  10. Keep saving your money and get the RSW-15 or go online for about 1300 delivered. The SVS is awesome but if you listen to music mostly IMO it will lack what you are looking for, Dual Ultra's is another story. EJ
  11. I am extremely happy with the Pioneer DV-45A. It looks a little cheap but works great. Oh yea the remote leaves a little to be desired. Sound quality is top notch for the price as well as the amuont of flexibility it gives. As far as the chroma bug thing goes, it's never been a problem for me. EJ
  12. Rexx, Use the diagram in the owners manual to help with placement including if you decide to add front effects. The preference would be to have the rear surrounds behind you rather than beside you. EJ
  13. Rat Shack SPL Meter at the Orlando Radio Club meeting Brand New in box $3.00 Cornwalls from Pennysaver in Phoenix $350 Watching me drive down the road with one Cornwall hanging out of the trunk and one in the front seat taking up so much room I couldn't even turn the steering wheel without having it tilted all the way up like a big rig with about 1" of clearance to spare.....Smiling all the way home. Priceless EJ
  14. Red's my hero.LOL If I remember right he used to say if you can't fix it with Duct tape it ain't worth messin with. EJ
  15. Kjohnson, We don't do Barney or Teletubbies. Our son Tyler likes Elmo. See attached photo. EJ
  16. Kjohnson, I would get yourself another set of heresey's and run them on the rear and get yourself the SVS. Get everything matched up. The Heresey's won't break the pocketbook and will probably allow you to get the SVS which you will love. Once you get everything heritage you will love the sound. Then you can work with placement. Judging by the comments you made it sounds like you don't have alot of option for placement so that also makes the heresey's attractive as they will allow some placement choices and you can find all of the sweet spots. Once you get all that ironed out than you can worry about upgrading to larger heritage but I suspect you will be quite content for a while anyway. I would put a pair of Cornwalls and four hereseys with an SVS up against just about anything. I just remembered how much I like my cornwalls last night when I was listening to the Allman Bros Live at the Fillmore DVD-A. If you haven't heard this one it's a must have. The mix is awesome. Duane really hangs out in the back with allot of his solo's. I was so impressed with the Cornwalls(even though I have always loved as I have had them for about 8 years). They were way in the back and up front the SPL meter was topping out around 110db this is with it right in front of the listener. When Duane would kick into a solo it would hit 116db from the back ccornwalls and it sounded awesome. IF you like the Allman Bros get this DVD-A. BTW, Even though your room is deep I would still put the rears in the back and not on the sides of the listener. When you put them on the sides it's too easy to tell where the sound is coming from. You need to give the speakers som room between the listener and them. THis is the shole point of getting the center up in the air. The closer you can match sitancse from all speakers to being equal to the listener the better off you are and back speakers the preference would be to have them further rather than closer if you can still get the gain to match the fronts from the listening position. Think about it, it makes sense. Go stand in front of a speaker and then step away from it and see which sounds better, not louder, but better. Speakers always sound better when you can get away from them a bit. EJ
  17. Prodj, Possibly you need to think of how you could use a couterweight in the front to keep it from tipping back. Possibly a little low profile box that it will sit on and you can load the front with some weight. EJ
  18. ---------------- On 2/10/2003 2:37:00 PM kjohnsonhp wrote: Wow! Very impressive! Are you going to share that with other home theater forums? They would probably enjoy seeing a monster heritage system. After shopping the stores and hearing the new equipment options, I continue to be impressed with the price/performance of Heritage... ---------------- I doubt I will share with any other forums, This really the only one I frequent, don't care much for the others unless I am looking for some specific information. I am going to make sure I get some better pics when the other speakers get lifted up. It is pretty sweet isn't it.hehe I am in heaven. BTW I left work early yesterday about 2 hours after the posts to see my wife at the Hospital. We had our second child. His name is Christian Alexander he was born at 1:54 and was 9lbs 12oz. Both mommy and baby are doing great. EJ
  19. ---------------- I would be interested in your observations on the sound: * how is the LaScala for dialog? Are there any concerns with it sound matching the screen? I've been experimenting with this using my Heresy inverted directly on top of my RPTV. * how would you describe the movie effects (ie car driving from L to R using long wall Khorns vs having speakers close to the screen)? I assume the off screen sounds are very interesting. * are there any issues with the sides being at one height and the center notably higher? ---------------- Kjohnson, Ive seen your pics and they look great. TO answer your questions: -The LaScala is an awesome center and works perfectly with dialog. The front soundstage is seamless with the LaScala up. Keep in mind the Khorns are 25' apart and the the LaScala is only about 1.5' from the top of the TV. It works perfectly with the LaScala in the air. I would never think of putting it down low if I could help it. Getting it up in the air helps with dispersion and imaging. You'll notice it is slightly pointed to the listening area but not directly, just above. You have to be careful with a center this big placement will make it over power just as much as gain/volume. If it's totally in your face and your mains are 15-20 feet away just turning down the gain isn't going to work. '-Movie effect are killer. The big distance between the mains and the large center all of which disperse a large sound pattern which makes it seamless realy gives you a sense of space. Put like this when a car drives across the screen I look both ways before crossing the road. THis also goes for the front to back but this will improve once the Cornwalls and LaScala are lifted up. This will give a sense of the additional space that I was talking about. Off screen sounds are sweet, often sounding like they are coming from somewhere other than where a speaker is at. -No issues with the height of the front sound stage. The setup I have would be preferred, I guarantee it. The key is to have the center angled towards the veiwer, but not directly, pitched up slightly. Note that the Heresey's which are used as Front Effects will be raised up to the ceiling, turned down and towards the listener but slightly off axis to the outside to help with imaging. Thanks for the comments. EJ
  20. I like to listen around 90-110 db if I really just want to sit back and listen. I have no problems going into the 110-120 range either on some special occasions for short durations. For casual listening around 80-90 is good. These are max SPL's not averages, 110 and above continously can get a little harsh on the old ears. In general I like to feel like I am at the concert, front row of course. Amazingly enough my hearing is still in tact. BTW I have been to probably over 100 concerts in my life and can't remeber any sounding nearly as good as my HT. EJ
  21. Glad to hear your back. Hope you have speedy recovery. You've got alot of posting to do to get back to your average posts per day. EJ
  22. Resized the rear right shot. Sorry this is my first time posing pics so I am still figuring this out. EJ
  23. Resized the LaScala above the TV.
