  1. I love my RF-5s, I have them paired with an RC-7 center (the perfect match) and 4 RS-3 surrounds with an RW-12d subwoofer, all in black.
  2. Absolutely not, there is no problem at all caused by optical cables. I think it is better to use optical cables to avoid these problems if anything.
  3. I did a comparison test once on one of my players which had both optical digital and digital coax outputs. There was a noticable sound difference between the two when making A/B comparisons. With the tests I made my player had more bass with the digital coax, however I believe this was most likely a result of my equipment and not actual cable characteristics. It would probably be a good idea to try both connections and decide for yourself which you prefer. I normally prefer to use digital optical cables on my equipment if I can, this is just my own preference and is not based on anything really, mostly just consistency of my system, I think both optical digital and digital coax are both excellent connections.
  4. This is very common, of coarse it will depend on the players, but many blu-ray players are also excellent at upconverting std DVDs. Also you definitely want to use HDMI with a blu-ray player as that is the only connection that it can upconvert with, they cannot upconvert with component cables (this was done to satisfy copy right protection laws). It depends on the equipment being used but I usually prefer using component cables when connecting cable boxes, DVRs or any form of tuner since component cables do not suffer the "digital handshake" issues HDMI can have.
  5. You can use a DVI to HDMI adapter cable if the TV has DVI inputs. You can also use component cable but this is not as good of an option for connecting a blu-ray player. No blu-ray can up convert std DVD's using component cable connections.
  6. www.speakerrepair.com is great I bought some of their banana plugs I was very happy with the quality, really nice. I have had ebay close bidding on Klipsch speakers I was bidding on a couple times, it had something to do with the photos used in the ads as well. I bought my RC-7 on ebay and ebay had closed the sellers ad. Luckily I had already gotten the sellers email so I just bought direct from him. He was local and personally delivered the speaker (mint condition) which made me happy not to deal with shipping,
  7. He says he has a max resolution of 1080i. BlueRay is 1080p, much higher resolution. Tell me, how are we going to see 1080p on a set that is only capable of 1080i? Almost any cheapo DVD player out there can up convert a standard NTSC signal to 1080i. BlueRay is in a different league. Progressive scan is very different than interlaced, and at this resolution is a big difference. And better sound? Yes, IF you have everything else that is current and compatible. Just a few years nowadays and you're "disconnected", at least as far as using the latest and greatest goes. A blu-ray player will provide a much better picture and sound than a std DVD or an up scaling DVD player. The better picture will be obvious on any HD display. You definitely do not need only1080p to gain from the improvements. While a 1080p display will take full advantage of the blu-rays1080p potential, the blu-ray will provide his display a full 1080i resolution not std DVD 480 or std 480 upscaled to 1080i.
  8. Yes you will see a very nice improvement with your 1080i display. You will be able to take advantage of your displays full resolution which is a considerable jump up from std DVD. Blu-ray is worth the upgrade for 720p, 768p, 1080i and 1080p displays. Also not only is the picture an excellent upgrade on all of these displays the sound quality is also a great upgrade as well.
  9. He was asking for something under $100. James He also already bought a remote before I posted, but others are reading as well. I posted the link because URC's consumer line is not anywhere near as good as their pro line.
  10. While I have not run into this myself, I have heard of people not able to get some new movies to play without the newest updated software installed. Just as with computer software updates the updates to the software do several things and I always keep my player updated with the newest updates when they are released.
  11. Here is the link to Universal Remotes pro line (much better remotes). http://www.universalremote.com/pro/products.php I have both the URC MX-800 and MX-850 remotes, with the RF recievers as well. URC's pro remotes are excellent and do not require professional installation as some (mostly professional installers) seem to think. Actually my remotes are the easiest remotes I have ever worked with especially if you have a complex system to control.
  12. I have also heard others complain about PS3 fan noise as well. Personally I don't own one and have no interest in owning a game console (I am not a gamer). I prefer a stand alone rack style player which blends well with my other components of my system. Not that many people won't be happy with a PS3, I hear a lot of people praise them for their Blu-ray ability. It just is not the kind of component I want for my own system.
  13. If you want a stand alone Blu-ray player and not a game console, the best right now is the Panasonic DMP-BD55K. I would highly recommend this player for its high quality and having all the latest HD audio codecs. Do a little research into this model and you will find why it is currently the best player.
  14. I just tried it and it worked for me. I clicked on enable avatar, uploaded a file, clicked on save, at this point I did not think it was working and looked at my profile still no change. I went again to AVATAR and had to enable again I clicked on "save" again and it was working.
  15. One man, it's sort of a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing. [] All kidding aside the people at HSU are very nice, I have been to HSU and they are friendly people, but I have never met Dr. HSU.
  16. Ah, but it is time we start tearing up your floorboards and working with the floor! []
  17. I found english information on this, scroll down this link for the subwoofer. http://www.royaldevice.com/custom.htm
  18. Get a high quality sound card here are two excellent cards. The Onkyo card is my favorite. From Onkyo: http://conics.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=257 From Auzentech: http://www.auzentech.com/site/products/x-fi_prelude.php
  19. At the distance you will be sitting 1080p has very little advantage (almost none at all) and the thing to remember is 1080p is not the end all in picture quality you are much better off getting a display which excells in other aspects of picture quality. Plasma is the best picture and the best choice, Panasonic plasma is the superior plasma in your price range and one of the best period. The consumer Panasonic plasmas are very good and highly recommended, the professional model Panasonic plasma is Panasonics best performing plasma with Panasonics best picture quality. The Panasonic pro models are excellent and compare and compete with displays selling at much more than double their price. The Panasonic pro models feature Panasonics very best picture quality and have a very realistic beautiful picture. The Panasonic pro models are the best built most reliable plasmas with the lowest failure rate and best warranty available. The Panasonic pro models feature a very sleek thin bezel frame the best looking plasma display in my opinion (and many others I have heard from). I own the Panasonic TH50PH9UK now a 2 year old Panasonic pro model, when I bought mine there was a special free 5 year in home warranty direct from Panasonic. I have owned my display almost 2 years now it still is like new in every way and I would not trade it for a new model of any other model plasma display, yes even those selling for far more.
  20. Unfortunetly the article is not in english but check out all of the pictures. The floor is a massive horn subwoofer. http://www.royaldevice.com/customita3.htm Note be sure to scroll all the way down to see all the photos of this awesome setup.
  21. This would be my recommendation: http://www.visualapex.com/plasma/Plasma_details.asp?VA=Panasonic&chPartNumber=TH-50PH11UK This is a much better display with a much better picture quality.
  22. Here's the Girls as promised.......
  23. Hmm, the wait to get sound does not sound right, I have never heard anyone have that problem before. Anyway if your receiver is new and you are waiting 5 minutes to get sound I would try exchanging it for another as that definitely does not sound good and may be a problem that becomes even worse with time.
  24. I had a Sony MDP 510 in the early 90's, it did have optical digital out. It was a great player with great sound at the time. Here is a link to one. http://www.laserdiscarchive.co.uk/laserdisc_archive/sony/sony_mdp-722/sony_mdp-722.htm The laser disc resolution was 425 lines
  25. WOW, I have been doing it all wrong! LOL Crossover at 250 Hz for a subwoofer YIKES that is too funny, have fun finding a receiver that has a crossover that goes that high! Yeah you know those RF-83's just don't have much bass of their own [*-)] The sound room in that Best Buy must sound real good.[8-)]
