  1. Thanks. Wife & Kids will do both of following on a regular bassis for several hours (Speakers will be contected to AMP): 1) Leave amp "ON" but preamp off. 2) Leave amp and preamp "On" with no source being feed to the preamp or amp. Are either of these bad for a Tube Amp SET or Triode?
  2. Judging by the bidding you are 100% correct. Is there some were I can get the Do & Dont's for Tube amps Let warm up for how long? Do not plug in with out Speakers Attached? Is it a good idea to put a Tube amp after a McIntosh MX132? If so MC30s? MC240? Does disconnecting the Gain on MC240 improve the sound?
  3. Thanks, sounds like it kills the value not the sound. Market forces at work. Personally I would be more concerned with clone speaker, Inside dimensions could affect the sound, (maybe for the better maybe not) different foam, structural issue etc. Remounting wiring could have some EMF affects on a different chassis but this would be very hard to detect? Logic would say that different operators through the years on the assembly line probably had just as much variability.
  4. How does having remanufactured chassis affect the Value of a Vintage Tube Mc Amplifier?
  5. Go with the Speaker of your choice. I listen to La Scalas on a 9' wall sit about 8 ' away and love it. I have heard great La Scalas and bad La Scalas. Same goes for Cornwalls. Crossover's & Amps can make Corwalls sound better than La Scalas and vise versa. Get a cross over that is friendly to your 10 watt amp and low level listening, reconditioned AA etc. in a La Scala. I love the ALK networks in my La Scalas and low level is good but high volume is were it really starts to shine. La Scalas need something to enhance the bass below 80 Hz, I use a sub. My Fortes had lots of bass all the way down below 40hz and I really did not need a sub. Sub works great - tight Bass down below 25 hz from the sub and lengendary tight La Scala Bass above 80hz. Some poeple listen to La Scalas without the Sub - Depends on what you listen to and how you like to listen to it. Most La Scala poeple go with a sub? Some pople swear by Cornwalls, Some by La Scalas, others by Cornscals others by Khorns. Get the Cross overs and amps right and they all sound great it becomes personal preferance. No amout of amps and networks can make my old Cerwin Vegas sound great, good for college party but not great.
  6. High Quality & Low Tech Beats High Tech Marginal Quality everytime especially in Audio. Some other examples Rolex vs Timex Porsche vs Corvette. As you now know the good stuff can be had used for the same price or less than the Marginal stuff new. Guess which one will be worth more next year?
  7. You are probably better off keeping the Peach but if you compare the two I would love to hear your thoughts. The first time I heard my La Scalas was on a Peach / Argon setup. I enjoy watching Blue Ray & DVD Music as much as or more than 2 channel so my criteria may be different than most.
  8. I just replaced a Pioneer Elite with a MX-132. Run the HDMI cable direct from the Blu Ray to the TV. Run an Optical from the Blu Ray to the MX132, sounds much better than the Pioneer Elite, even after giving up the Master Audio & True HD. I have read that Audio experts can not tell the difference between High Bit rate DVD and True Lossless. When I am playing the Blu Ray HD stuff it comes out as a High Quality Dolby Digital or DTS Core stream and sounds Great. I have some 96 Khz Chris Botti that I listened to alot on the Elite. When I listen to it on the MX-132 it sounds better then the Elite. More Detailed? And yes I did it both with all the room calibration and with out the McIntosh still sounds better all though not by much in 5 channel in 2 Channel there is no comparision the Mc Intosh wins by a mile. The main reason I bought it was to simplify my two channel, I was using the variable outs on my CD player direct to my amp. Unpluging the cables and moving the La Scalas became a drag. Now No need since my CD player is direct into the MX-132. I do not see a need to upgrade to a newer McIntosh MX, Pioneer Blu Ray sends out audio with correct delay - no lip sync issues, Newer MXs have same SN Ratios, Same Distortion numbers etc. Run Component from cable TV Box to the TV - Uverse is only 720P and that is only way to get Dolby From Uverse (Optical out with out using the HDMI) anyway.
  9. I whish the Mcintosh would be near the price range of the emotiva, I'm getting a hell of a deal but it is not that good I'm just trying to figure out if it is worth it to spend the extra cash for the MC. I'm just affraid that going to such a high level of audio equipement would be a waste for my type of speakers. I really do not have any plans to upgrade my speakers any time soon In simple terms, would that be like putting a corvette engine in ford fiesta, how fast do think I can go? ********************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Replaced VSX-92 with MX132 could not believe how much better Forte IIs sounded. Much less harsh. Sounds great with the La Scalas. Had I upgraded to Mac before buying the La Scalas I might not have upgraded to the La Scalas. Well not true but it would at least taken longer. MX-132c is very warm but still with lots of Detial. I bought a Mx132 same specs in the Amp section as 120/135 but a slower chip, only use it for audio anyway, for well south of $1400. New glass and paper work from Mac -$ 400 Check up just last year. Looks and sounds brand new. The Pioneer is sitting In my office on the Floor.
  10. How moch for a set of horns only (with out the Tweeter hole, mouningt on top of La Scalas)?
  11. We use Never Dull to polish the Aluminum Spinner Cover an Corporate Plane that I pilot for a friend. Works great. Love their products. May be a little agressive for the lettering on a amp. I like the Use no "cleaner" products above.
  12. I have owned both Forte IIs and La Scalas. IMHO it depends on what you listen to. If you are in into Loud Rock and Movies stay with the Fortes and save some cash. Playing ACDC, Led Zepplin, DMB etc. Loud just sounds better on Fortes. I recently did a side by side comparison to Fortes IIs and La Scalas and was surprised how good the Fortes sounded with some good equipement but they just did not sound smooth or as accurate on Non Rock n Roll or turned down below roughly 90 -100 db If you listen to a more Jazz, Female vocals etc. and you need to be able to place the speakers just about any where and still have them sound good, go with the La Scalas. The vocals are great. If you have good corners check out K-horns. I need to hear a good set of K-horns in the right room with right amps because the few pair I have heard were not in the best location or with wrong amps so I think my La Scalas with a Good Sub sound better than any of the K-horns I have heard. It is a little unfair of a comparison since I have Bob's Tweeters and ALK B networks. The one pair of cornwalls I have heard did not keep up with the Forte IIs. More Harsh in the mids and the bass was not as good as Forte IIs the right distance from side and back walls. I have listened to Herseys but it was in college, they sounded incredible, a toaster also sounded incredible at that time . . . so I would have to listen to them again.
  13. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/storage/4/296458/False%20Corner1.gif Yes and Indy is correct Accoding to the Dope From Hope. I think Colter posted a cleaner copy. But you need 4 feet to complete horn, sealing the cabinets eleminates the need to seal tight to a wall but does not eliminate the need for a corner. I have seen pictures of 8 - 13 feet worth of horn built into floors to get down to 10Hz.
  14. I read somewhere that the center channel should never be in front of the Left and Right speakers? Since Fortes are considered by some to be sensitive to Toe and recommend to never Toe-in Fortes, maybe having center channel forward of the Fortes is affecting the Sound of the Left & Right Speakers and this is some of what you are hearing. Also when I had my Fortes, due the passive Radiator, the base quality was even more sensitive than most speakers on how far away they were from both the Rear and Side walls. Like K-Horns corner placement was good but Kind of the opposite of K-Horns a little space is good no space bad. K-Horns are helped by sealing up tight, Fortes need to Breathe. Having the center channel too close to your amps etc. could be having a large effect. If you can get the area cleared out I would try varing the distance from the rear wall and keep the center channel at least 1 inch closer to the rear wall than the Left & Right Speakers.
  15. I was always going to replace my Acadamy with a La Scala to match La Scala fronts, when I move the set to other side of Basement contingent upon completion of an addition for my wifes reading room. I even thought of combining the woofers from the Acadamy with the HF section from a La Scala because it would fit in the current location. Couple of weeks ago I replaced a newer Pioneer Elite -92 Reciever with an older Mc Intosh MX-132 the problem was not in the Acadamy it was in the Elite. I watched Shawshank tonight and it was like watching it for the first time from an audio standpoint, what a great DVD recording. I have Chris's Network in the Acadamy and Unversal Bs in the La Scala. Since the purchase of the Mc Pre I see no need to ever change this combo. Space provided I may go to an La Scala center but times would have to be really good. I may get more of a benfit when the space becomes availible by moving my sub up front than by having a La Scala versus an Acadamy. Some times the center channel does not sound that great but at least now I know it is in the recording not the preamp. I have RS-7s with the La Scalas and it has never bothered me but the rears are not as critical as the fronts for timber match. I dream about having all La Scalas but that would cost me a marriage plus the additional cost of a house with a room big enought for 5-7 La Scalas. I have since moved the La Scalas much more forward/closer than pictured below to get away from distortion from the walls.
  16. Do you know why on some sources the Dolby II or Dolby 5.1 makes the center channel sound weak and tinning but other times much deeper and better timber match? This weekend while watching golf in 5.1 the center channel sounded as above but when the Super Bowl came on it sounded great, I could hardly tell the differance between an Academy and La Scalas. During the golf my Academy sounded like the Blue Light Special pager at Kmart, had to switch to stereo. This has happened both on an Elite reciever and the Mc Intosh Mx132. AT&T Uverse Issue?
  17. Sounds great! Until then: Less the 2k for a used Mc Intosh MX-132 has made a huge improvement. Letting the Blue Ray player due the decoding and having a better Pre has been a good trade off. High quality DVDs sound better than 96Khz "Looseless" Master Audio through the Elite (when you can find it) Blue Ray Master Audio decoded to high Res Dolby and DTS sound better than the "loseless" through the Elite. Plus no more switching the CD connetions to use the varible out direct to my main amp. Piping CD through the optical input on the MX-132 actually improved the overall sound by tighting up the low end by utilizing the 80hz cross over to the sub for Stereo. Waiting 5+ years for an "affordable" used Mc Intosh Master Audio Decoding/Pass Through capable Pre with Dolby IIz . . . .
  18. Reason # 1 - It is fun Reason # 2 - Sounds better then Forte IIs I went with the La Scalas, Hopefully this spring we will move then into the other end of the room that is just over 12 feet wide. What speaker would work better?
  19. Sounds like other Dolby Digital 5.1 sources, DVD etc. No transmission issues clipping, etc. So sounds good but not as Master Audio & Dolby True HD, 2 Channel 96khz PCM from the Blue Ray player.
  20. I do not any experiance with the Dennon. I have the Pioneer and have enjoyed playing with all the different functions. But in the end I just use Pure Direct and it sounds great if the speaker locations are good, room is good etc. Coupled with the Elite Blue Ray player both DVDs and Blue Ray disks are amazing for both sound and picture. I have been using a CD player direct to an amp for 2 channel, sounds marginally better then when going through all the extra hook up etc of the pre-amp. Blue Ray disks that are at 48khz or better sound so good that as more become availible down the road I will eliminate the CD and phono player and just use Blue Ray for music.
  21. Price Date Ended Klipsch La Scala speakers View similar active items | Sell one like this 9 Bids Sold $1,350.00 Sep-30 18:26 Bay earlier this week.
  22. I switched mainly for the sonic improvements 96khz (Chriss Botti) vs. 20 something khz on a CD - no comparison. I can listen very loud with virtually no distortion - amazing detail, and imaging. Usually my academy does not match the La Scalas well enough for Music DVDs so we use 2 Channel. Bluerays with 48 KHz plus are making the academy sing and it is sometimes tough to choose between 2 channel at 48 and 5.1 at 96. Sometimes we look at amp upgrades etc. when the source is a biggest issue. After installing the Blue Ray I listened to a very expensive McIntosh amps and speakers system playing Blueray at the Highend store with nicest address in town, room with treaments, expensive projector etc is stated to be $250,000. With the same source my system sound very very similar watching the same scene less then 4 minutes apart. I was planing on amp upgrades and Processor upgrades but with improvement from the Blueray and comparision to the McIntosh system I would need a new set of ears before that would be required. Also there was a really impressive improvement in how much better DVDs looked and sounded, low budget DVD player was a factor. Blue Ray disks are incredible, my 2 year old low contrast ratio clunker of an LCD looks much better especially on those high contrast scenes, more shadow detail. Looking at new 1080P projector to capitalize on the picture improvements in the future.
  23. I have no technical answer to your question other than I learned from the experanced member that I bought my La Scala's from "Never put tubes after SS" and "You can use a Tube Pre with solid state amp to get most of the benifit of all tube. He had Peach (Tube Pre) and an Aragon SS amp. It sounded great and some day I will by a tube pre. Until then on a budget: Months of experimenting with dozens of combinations the only way I could get close to the sound he had was to take a Adcom 750 CD player's variable outputs directly into an old Adcom 535 SS amp. Sounds warm like Tubes. Using a Pioneer SS as a Pre or both Pre and Amp was harsh. The Pioneer sounded better when I used it just as pre and used the Adcom for the amp. Sounded great, warm and dyanamic, after eliminating the Pioneer for two channel. Adcom 535s are avialable for $150 +/- and with 60 watts a channel I have never use more than half volume. Just my newbie 2 cents . . . . .
  24. I do not know about the Heresy but I had a 42" LCD on top of an Academy with out any issues. I have since mounted the LCD from a pivoting ceiling mount for appearance and viewing flexibilty. I tried an RC in the center and it sounded terible - no timbre match. Academy sounded much better. I would like to have another La Scala but there just is not enough room.
  25. Welcome to the forum. I have Bob's tweeters and ALK type B crossovers. This combo sounds great - musical highs with out all the static of the old 77s and the JBL Baby cheeks that I tried. For 2 channel I am running an Adcom 700 CD player with variable outputs directly to an Adcom GFA-535 II, no preamp. Sounds great for very little cash, less than $400 for both, until I can afford/demo a tube preamp.
