  1. Nate3200, Exactly what I was going to say in regaurds to the Patrician. I have been OOT and just got back. The long unit is most definately Electro Voice. These same drivers were also used in the Georgian, mounted in the center of the big mid range horn with a smaller horn attached to it. Roger
  2. I think it is pretty clear that 2 22 FEB 54 means Febuary 22 1954 The 590 matces the 590 serial number on the sheet right next to it, Hope Arkinsas is where Klipsch speakers were founded and still being built today, and I would bet TC might have been the initials of an employee at that time, Roger
  3. Seti, The EV15W-K frame is cast aluminum that has been polished and chromed back in the 1950s. They have 5 pound Alnico magnets as well. Alnico has 5 times the magnetic force of the ferrite magnets that the other three have, so it should be eqivelent to a 25 pound ferrite magnet. Bob stands by his woofers, and at lees then half the price of my EV15W-Ks, I want to give them a fair unbiased trial. Roger
  4. seti, Does your 1978 woofer have any cracks in the surrounds or coil rub?? I want to pick up one of these square magnet Eminence woofers and do a side by side by side etc. with a newer version, one of Bobs cast frame woofers, and an EV15W-K. My brother in law and a friend are both long term Corner Horn Owners and I want to compare the 4 and take votes on the outcome. Roger
  5. Nate3200, The dope on the EV woofer is on the cone surround. Is the EV woofer cones surround an Orangish Red surround?? The EV woofer and Stevens true sonnic woofers are period correct. The university driven wooden lensed horn is period correct. Those EV T-350 tweeters are an upgrade, and are much newer than your speakers, if they were the same age, the alnico magnet structure would match the tanish paint on the EV15W-K woofer. Incidentally, you could Ebay that pair of EV-350 tweeters and come out having nothing in your speakers at the price you paid. I have no idea what that red coned thing is, but it never came in that speaker. Your one speaker apears to have an EV-25 horn in it as well. This is not orriginal either. Once you get this pair correct and up a running correctly, I would be guessing at best, especially without close personal inspection, but I would say easily 5 times what you paid. Drivers alone those tweeters are $500 for the pair. The EV15W-k is $250 if it has a perfect orriginal cone, $150 with a replacement. I'd say $150 for the T-25. The wooden horn lense Universities are worth at least $100-$150 each as conversation pieces if nothing else to a Klipsch lover. I don't follow Stevens prices, but I'm sure it would probably bring as much as the EV woofer, and I don't know what the hell that red thing is. Lets just say that you did not get hurt with your purchase... Roger
  6. Nate3200, So the one cabinet is a 4 way cofiguration, not a 3 way.. Is your second speaker a 4 way configuration as well?? How much coin did they set you back?? Those T-350s are alot more efficient then the T-35s, worth alot more as well. Has the 15W-K been reconed or not?? If it has the orriginal cone, the surround will have orangish red dope. The all black EV cones are replacements. It would be nice to sonically match the speaker you prefer of the two, but I would keep all the orriginal drivers if you change one out to match the other. Thanks for the pics!!! Roger
  7. Thebes, As I recommended before, ECT. Not knowing if you were using your quirky humor or not you stated "probably some sort of RAP" I would think you are probably eminently familiar with ECT, but if not, or for those not in the know. ECT = Electro Convulsive Therapy, or in other words, purposely causing a seizure in the patient via use of electrical current on the brain. Used in extreme forms of depression, Schitzophrenia, and other mentally disturbed individuals. For enlightenment, please see the below videos.... Roger http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GylirgHFqeQ OR
  8. Back in the 80s, My car stereo was way ahead of what anyone else was running at the time, but as I grow older, I find myself enjoying my audio lust at home and find I would much rather listen to the big block than blair music. As long as the big block can churn out more decibles than the wanabes 18s in the next vehicle, I'm happy. Roger
  9. Nate3200, Nice find!! Where are you from?? Matched sets were rare in this time frame, and more than likely someone bought a similar unit to what they already had, although due to the closeness of the match of this pair, it is quite possible that they have been roommates for a very long time. I would love to see more pictures of the drivers in both, especially mid and high frequencies, and their horn lenses. From the front grill cloth, it looks like the reflection of a T-350 tweeter in the one to the right from the black center and chrome surround of the lense. Alot more pictures would be highly appreciated, Thanks.... Roger
  10. videoCWK, Don't listen to em kid!! I started my first job after school and weekends when I was 15. I wanted Klipsch LaScalas, but couldn't afford new and we didn't have the www back then to visit eBay, so the second hand market was nill... I saved up and paid cash first for a Pioneer SX3900 reciever, then I bought PRO-80 headphones, then REalistic Mach 1 speakers, then a Micro Seiki DD35 turntable with Grado cartridge, all while I was 16 years old, and I had that system in my house. Getting the speakers home will be rough, but if you watch ebay all summer while you save for a pair near where you live, or find a member hear that lives close, you might score a set of used LaScalas for $800 to $900. It is alot at your present earning potential, but you probably wont want anything nicer for the next 14 years of your life... Roger
  11. Or if your mother was bread by a dog (LOL).....28,500Hz???? Roger
  12. InVeNtOR, Obviously at this point with ksf 10.5 mains and ksw 12 sub, you wont be needing a whole lot of current. I don't know how old you are, or your financial status/potential future earnings, but considder and descide what your possible future upgrades will be. Are you going to grow old and die in this house, or is just a step along the way?? What will your sallary and audio addiction allow for future upgrades along the way. When considdering future upgrades, take in to account that voltage times amperage = wattage. with a mean average of 115 volts at the source times a 20 amp breaker, that gives us a circuit that will feed 2,300 watts maximum. Check the wattage draw of all your components and add them up. If somewhere down the road, you descide you need a 7 channel surround amp pushing 300 watts RMS, that is 2,100 watts of output, but electronics are not 100% efficient (intake is always > output) and the line would also need to be able to recharge the capacitors for peak output, so you would need a single 30 amp breaker and #10 AWG copper just to feed this one piece of equipement. A further thing to take into account is that while some home built sub guys are using 1000 watt RMS amps, they are often in the A/B design, which means lower peak wattage above the base 1000 watt output. Currently the best amplifier souce for subs is class "D", as this type of amp is capable of much higher peak wattage / more headroom for big hits of instantanious bass. I have a pair of Velodyne HGS-18IIs which are by no means top of the heap for subs anymore, but their class "D" amps put out 1,250 watts RMS each, and are capable of putting out 3,000 watt peaks each, so I have a seperate 30 amp breaker and #10-2 AWG copper lines to each of these units. I also built boxes with 30 amp relays for both of these units so that they shut off and are isolated any time the system is turned off, and my input cables are isolated to help prevent lightning strike issues. Roger
  13. Don, No, I had missed the hot link you posted, and read it now. The Bass cabinet looks the same in design, but proportions??, unknown. I do know, that what I posted is an example of a Georgian. I wont have info on this for maybe two months, but I was planning on showing some pictures when I get my stuff back. I have been replacing all of my Klipsch K 33-E woofers with EV 15W-Ks. I have long known of the origins and involvement of PWK with the Bass bins on the Georgians. Anyhow, Being less then 2 hours from Electro Voice in Michigan, and just over an hour from the guy in Ft Wayne, Indianna, who Electro Voice refers all of the owners of these early EV speakers too, I have him presently restoring 2 of my EV 15W-Ks. One of them even had the orriginal cone from the 50s. An orriginal has orange doped surround. EV cones that have black surrounds are replacements. Anyhow, I wanted them perfect and the baskets are presently getting tripple show chrome at Chromemasters in Tn. and the terminals are being recoated in nickel. I am having him put PWK pie logo dust caps on them, and they will be propperly placed so the emblems will be at 12 oclock with the terminals at the 9 oclock position as they will be inside the cabinette when mounted. Anyhow, the guy had 3 EV 30Ws at the shop while I was there. It was Electro Voice that I talked to, that sent me to him, and he is the only one they recommend. I am sure he probably has some stuff on the Georgian that I can access the next time I make a trip. I need to purchase or borrow a pre 1985 square magnet K-33E, and I plan to buy a cast frame crites woofer, and do an A, B, C, D comparrison and take votes with the shop owner, my brother in law who owns Klipshorns also, a high school buddy that has an all Corner Horn and LaScala surround system, and myself, and place some pictures and the story here when I get it all done. Roger
  14. Maron, I completely agree with everything you have posted, and don't see anything in my posts that is contrary to what you have previously stated. Roger
  15. Don, Which patrician model are you speaking about as there were 4 different models. This is not a patrician, it is a Georgian. It is not the only Georgian of this configguration that I have seen either. I have seen 3 way Georgians as well as 4 way Georgians, but every three way I have ever seen does not have a T-35 driver. They still had the same midrange as this one, with the same horn in the center of this ones mid range. This is a very early 50s Georgian as denoted by this ones early, narrow T-35, and I have seen this one multiple times and it has the early 50s Alnico EV15W-K, not the later Ferite version. All Patricians that I am aware of use the much larger and expensive T-350, not the T-35, and depending on the maodel, have the EV 18W-k, or the EV 30W. I have also seen two different styles of decorative housings for just the Georgian, as well as they sold complete speaker and crosover settups for all of these hi end models, with instructions to build your own cabinet. You can believe what you will, but that still wont make you correct... Roger
  16. Shawn, Thanks for posting the picture of the Silver 7 tube amplifier and the silver 7T solid state amp. Anyone that doesn't know what those two are, plus the silver 9T solid state amp, doesn't know crap about Bob Carver. For those who don't know, that smaller solid state amp is a Mono Block pushing 585 watts RMS. For those who don't know about the Silver seven tube amplifier, that is just about the all time holly grail of tube amps, and if you have to ask... you can't afford one.. Roger
  17. Sorry Don, Your the one driving a Corvette, not my style!! That is an orriginal Georgian 4 way system without the front access board, the exterior decorative cabinet, and the rear bracket for the big horn, as well as some other minoe pieces. I was addressing the orriginal question of what drivers should be in the cabinet. Brac asked "then what is this?" Brac, if you read the description on the other speaker, it was fabbed in some shop somewhere. The other speaker is a 3 way, which is wrong, it has an Altec Lansing horn, which is wrong as Electro Voice unlike Klipsch, was a driver manufacturer in those days, and Georgians did not look like a Klipschorn inexterior treatments at all. These and the ones that EV Guy own, were made to look like Klipschorns, although not a bad thing in my opinion. Roger
  18. MD, For a solid state amp that will really make your Fortes' sing, I recomend picking up a used Nakamichi PA-7 or PA-5, you will be amazed by how much better they can sound... Roger
  19. This is a real Georgian, it is a 4 way system, and it has all of the orriginal drivers. Roger

This was the baby version of the famous Patrician, which used 2 of the massive 15" Chrome plated Klipsch woofers. This speaker sounds amazing, and was hooked up to a very rare EV model A20 mono tube amp and Fisher series 80 preamp. The cabinet is in great shape, but is missing the the 24" square front panel over the front of the woofer, which was only a piece of 1/2" plywood that can be easily replaced. 22. Herbie, If you go looking for speaker spikes on ebay, alot of sets will come with round metal pads with divots in them, to sit the spikes into when putting on a wooden floor. Roger
  23. Pictures please!! How much did you give?? Roger
  24. Greg, I contacted buffpuff3 via ebay. With 299 feedback, and only a 94% possitive, not including neutral feedback, I think it speaks volumes. I don't deal with anyone who has a lower rating than 98.5% unless I feel I will never find another one or can pick it up in person. I also feel that 97% and below is pretty much a gauranteed A-Hole!! My personal feedback is 320 at 100%, no negatives, no mutual withdrawls, no neutrals... If you would like me to forward a copy of what I sent, just email me at rgordon@watchtv.net Roger
