  1. That for both offers guys. I picked up a Scott 299B as per OldBuckster. The center output works nicely to connect to my sub. Defiantely helps fill in lower end, I just think that the 10" sub is to small, it can't keep up with the volume of sound the Heresy's put out.
  2. Good article. I guess it is right in 10db increase is 10X power. +9db would be say 8W, and +12db would be 16W, when you think of it in +2db increaments.
  3. Pardon my newbiness to hornloading and such, but when I built a few custom boxes for my car subwoofers, I remembered, that different drives would produce way different results in a vented vs sealed enclosure. I knw the Polk Audio db10's I had did not do well when vented, but where awesome in a sealed box. Thi has to do with the design of the subwoofer itself I thought. Would the same kind of principles apply to hornloading them, folded or not?
  4. Try falling asleep on the train with them in, and waking up in the yard... ...ok, haven't woken up in th yard as people are kind enough to wake me up before it goes to the yard.
  5. I found his answer: http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/home_entertainment/sounddock_systems/sounddock_portable/index.jsp&ck=0 You can get three of them for $1500 and having a real rocking system! (heck you even get a free portable bag right now! $59 value!) Problem is, they won't specify how many watts it is, nor how big the subwoofers in it are. I don't understand why they lack posting this information?? But since tons of people have them, and swear by them as being the best thing. It really must be the best thing out there!! And this is why Klipsch won't even try and compete with them.....[*-)]
  6. For starters from the website: Quintet Satellite: 7.5" (19.05cm) x 4.25" (10.8cm) x 6.375" (16.19cm) 2.1 lbs. (0.95kg) 3" woofer Promedia 4.1 Satellite: 8.5" (21.59cm) x 4.2" (10.67cm) x 5.67" (14.4cm) 4lb 3.5" woofer If the Quintet II's are like my III's they are vented vs sealed. Don't forget, the 5.1/Ultra center is single woofer, the quintets are 2". As I mentioned, they differ, the quintets are meant for a living room, and promedia's are meant for nearfield. It seems like a little more bass response from the Quintets.
  7. Cord is to long for you, but to short for me. Go figure.
  8. Your not still there are you? 1 week was enough for me in HK, but the Images where awesome on the plane. Well this should be a whole differen tthread...maybe tomorrow. I've tried my co-workers Custom 2's but they just aren't as comfy, might have to give these a shot as a backup set or something. Need some long term testers?
  9. japan has one too. Don't you love what money can do.
  10. Yesterday prices: Reg(87): $4.18 Premium(93): $4.40 Plus (on the water for boats (89)): $4.80 The water price isn't to bad. Past it's always been atleast $1.00 more.
  11. Ahh yes, the season of grilling. Hopefully take some nice 1/4" burgers, and sprinkle some Adobo (Goya) on it, flip once and touch more. Everyone loves it. Has to be goya, the others dont give the same flavor. I need a good rib reciepe. Anyone?
  12. True, but the Promedia's are really meant for nearfield listening. They can throw a good distance, but aren't Quintets. I have both, and both setup for HT use. Difference is my Promedia's are setup in a really small room. I'm under 6' from the TV screen and front speakers. Which is what THX says is the limits for Multimedia/Desktop http://www.thx.com/products/home/logos/index.html Your millage may vary. There is a noticeable in build quality. If anything it seems people upgrade from the Promedia speakers to the RSX line. There is nothing wrong with starting out with the Promedia's and seeing how the work out. You can always upgrade.
  13. Thanks Amy. I must have missed that release. $249 isn't to bad. Looks like a consultant who works with might wait for them to come out. $350 for the Images is to much but he likes the comfort and sound, but $250 is more reasonable to him.
  14. Prof Thump, I saw some photos from Can-Jam. It looks like you had a pair of silver Images, and caption said Images X5. Can we get some more information? I didn't see anything else mentioned around the head-fi forum about them.
  15. I understand what you guys are all saying, and I have seen the industrial LaScalas, but are they really meant for a larger audioance of 500-1000? It seems like people may use them in clubs and such, but if you where to do anything larger would it be wiser to go more on the real Pro route that is used in theatres? Those places hold anywhere from what 500-1500 people? Wouldn't they be a bit more on pair for live music per se? I'm not knocking the lascalas. One would think Klipsch would have line arrays for these things, but seems they are more home/pro theatre centered. Producing sound for an audution of 20, 50 or 100,000 is definately a different task then a 1500 person theatre.
  16. TommK, no worries and thanks. I think for now I going to stick with the Scott 299. Should be a decent way to start, and as time and money comes around, I'm sure I'll grow the collection, but need to start somewhere.
  17. pCats and VRD's are a little out of my range I think at the moment. I rather start simple and work my way up. I'm going to look into the Scott 299D or maybe a HK730/930 to start. I'm going to research them a little more. Oldbuckster, I might take you up on the offer, but would be more mid summer when I plan to go up and visit my friend around the Accord/Kingston area. Right now I'm tied up with a few large projects at work, and also trying to get my boat in the water by July 4th. (Coming up sooner then you think with only weekends to finsih the restoration.) Thanks.
  18. Thanks olbuckster. I was wanting to avoid the high input wire hook up, I thought it might take some of the quality away. It sounds like the Scott 299D might be my best option at this time. I'm down on Long Island, and work in NYC. Yes, its a WRX, I have a swapped 2000 2.5RS with the WRX motor, just modified a little.
  19. Ok, so I have aquired a pair of Heresy II's ('87) (gotta start somewhere). I parted out my second small HT setup, but am keeping the subwoofer from it. I'm looking to build a little 2CH setup. I was hoping to get a tube amp to drive the Heresy's. I've been searching boards and found some decent information and recommendations. (Dynaco ST-70. Scott 299b or 340b, Fisher 500C, HK 430/730/930, or even Bottlehead). Now from some recommendations int he readings I see that people say adding the Subwoofer in with the Heresy's would help the bottom end out. So I was hoping to utilize the sub I have left over. I have around max $1500 to spend on an amp/pre-amp or combo, would prefer to keep it under $1k if possible. What's been getting me is if I went with a Fisher500C or HK930 setup is how to get a sub out from them. How are you guys doing this? If I went with a pre-amp, I guess I could get the sub-out off that? But what should Iook for then in terms of a pre-amp/amp? Any suggestions? Thanks, Dan
  20. Wow. One thing to sell them in the white van scam, but putting them onto ebay. wow. Man, if you buy them off ebay, you deserve what you get. A 2 second google search should change you mind easily on them.
  21. I paid $4.199 yesterday for 93. sigh
  22. Blue Point Brewery - Double Blonde Special Brew (visited the brewery 2 weekends ago, they had a Quintet II system in the taste room.)
  23. Bot or not, which he isn't. First, 1000W? What does wattage have to do with it? Klipsch has tons of very highly effiencent speakers that don't need tons of power. The difference between a 500W and 1000W amp gains your 3db in a speaker. Second, it would be easy to do with the pleathora of car audio stuff. Jay the car battery idea would be ideal, well, more like a house boat battery. Your talking up to 500AH at 12V. That coupled to a nice car head-unit for you AM/FM/CD/Ipod, and now your left with you speaker choice. Think of the LaScala in the desert Picture....technically portable and with what a 15W portable amp? Same applies here. So if we are working on this as a DIY, I would grab an old pair of Herseys or Forte's and find an nice subwoofer off of ebay that had a broken amp. Build a new subbox to hold that sub, battery, amps and headunit. Attach handtruck and your done. 500AH battery $300 Nice Head Unit $300 Used Forte IIs $300 2 - 500W Amps - $200 Used Sub Enclosure - $200 Handtruck $50 Cables - $100 Battery Charger - $50 Total $1500
  24. Since no one responded, I figured I would clear up the confusion. Yes, it is meant to confusion, and sound better. Doesn't it?If you think of it in the the LCD sense, it takes 3 dots, the RGB componets, to make one pixel. Pixel being able to reproduce the the 'color pinwheel' vs an individual channel of the RGB scheme. Like Tony mentioned 1080P is a standard 1920x1080 pixels which is the ~2million pixels. Granted you can make/find monitors that have a larger resolution, but you won't have content to fill it.
