  1. Hey Mark, It looks great! Funny that it is from Davis, CA. About 10 Miles from me. Did it arrive today? Dennie
  2. Lookin' Good Jim! [Y] I see you got them inside okay, how's your back? LOL They are beautiful. How do they sound? Dennie
  3. That 806 Looks like a Great Home Theater Receiver. But it seems you are looking for 2.1? If that's the case, I would look at Outlaw Stereo Receiver for about the same price, it has great reviews. Here is the link ----------> CLICK HERE Also, you say "it can be bridged front into a 2.1 Config". I did not see that it can be "bridged", but it can be Bi-amped, which is not the same as bridged. 4. That is a Great Picture! I think we all have THAT smile on our face when we "pick up" our La Scala's! It is funny how they don't seem to weigh much when we pick them up, but when we get them home, they weigh a TON!!! You have done a good thing Oldenough! I think they are going to a good home. Jim, Congratulations on your "New To You La Scala's ", you have stepped up to the Heritage Line and you have custom paint too! Dennie
  5. Hey Mark, I don't have any experience with this fine receiver, but it looks very nice. Congratulations! It seems to be a fair Price too.
  6. I've got $1.62 left, after Christmas Shopping. You are welcome to it! No wait...........$1.63! [] How much is Cheap? I think you should get both pairs. But that is easy for me to say! [H] Dennie
  7. I think you should get them! [] Dennie
  8. Congratulations! They look good and I bet you get many, many years of enjoyment out of them. How do they sound? Dennie
  9. I would lay out $200 and see what they say. Maybe he will meet you at $250. Good Luck, Dennie
  10. Okay, I just counted and it is approx.75/80 records per square. It was mixed with single albums and 2 record gatefold albums. Dennie
  11. Here's a couple of pictures I took a while back............. PLEASE NOTE: The shelves are running the wrong way. The Long ones should be going across, not up and down. I was told this on this forum. Then someone posted some pictures of these units tipping over with the weight of the records. Those were not pretty pictures. This unit fits snuggly between two walls, so tipping is not an issue. But I do think a piece of paneling or plywood across the back would prevent this problem, it would also keep the records from being pushed through, if you used it as a room divider. I've never counted how many records fit in a section. I'll go do that. Dennie
  12. Gotta' love Bob Dylan! I couldn't have said it better! And it appears you gotta love that inside cover art!! [:|] Dennie
  13. Hey Oldenough, I could not imagine selling my La Scala's, but if it came to family or Speakers, well the family would have to go! LOL No, the speakers would go and when the time came that the La Scala's would fit into my family and house again, I would find more, as you will if the time comes. And look at it this way, someone else gets to enjoy them now. We can't even imagine how they will change Jim's life, but we know they will. [] I'm glad you're happy with the RF-5's, I've never heard them, but people speak highly of them around here and Quality Watts make all the difference. Dennie
  14. Hey Oldenough, I know exactly what you are asking and why. I thought my La Scals's sounded fine. One of the nicest speakers I have ever heard. I asked the same question as you.....is it really worth it. I don't see how it could possibly sound better. That's when I called Bob Crites. He laughed when I asked the question......."Could they really sound better"? So I went ahead and ordered new Type AA/A crossovers. They came (in 4 days)and I couldn't wait to install them. 20min's later they were installed and I was not so pleased. Do they really sound better, I wondered. I listened and listened and it did sound a little better, I thought. But not night and day. I am fortunate, as I have a regular routine. As most of you know I listen to a lot of music. I do not watch night-time TV, I listen to music instead and I have my "favorite" music that I listen to. Just about every night, I get to my last music of the night and I turn off the computer and all the lights and listen to some nice music before retiring to bed. This is my regular routine. A few days after I installed the crossovers I put in one of my favorite CD's, Roberta Flack's "First Take". I sat back, fully reclined in my chair, lights out and just faded away into the music. But this time was different. This time it was like I was hearing this album for the first time. Everything just seemed so much clearer and the stand up bass was now very pronounced. Her voice was so clear, it was like I was hearing it for the first time. There were a couple of places in the music where she would hit a note and I would cringe, as I thought my tweeters were blown. But not any more. WOW! I can't believe this is the same CD that I have listened to at least 25 times. Over the next few weeks I was just blown away by what I was hearing. Everything sounded so much better and the La Scala's now have bass, which they lacked before and I just wrote it off as "La Scala's don't have bass" that I've heard around here many times. Boy was I wrong. They don't reproduce 20hz, like my sub can, but these speakers have some great bass, just not the very bottom end. This is my experience. I have no education in electronics, so I can not speak to what PWK intended or what anyone else has experienced. I do know that replacing the Crossovers made a huge NIGHT AND DAY Difference to the sound. I am sticking to my story and the best description/analogy I can come up with is......"It is like someone took a blanket off of my speakers"! "Everything sounds so CLEAR now"! No muddiness, no harsh sounds at all, unless it is in the recording. As I mentioned in another post, I now here the "air" around the cymbals and I had never heard that before, ever. Oh and BTW, there were no other changes to my system at all during the months that I replaced the crossovers and did my initial listening sessions. I told some of my friends that regularly listen to my system, I don't know why I waited so long to do it. Well, I do know why, I didn't think it would make this much of a difference. But it has most definitely made a HUGE difference. The Best $300 I have spent. Oldenough, I think you are selling your La Scala's for a very reasonable price. As you've read, I paid $1100 for mine and then bought the crossovers and I still feel that these are some of the best speakers anywhere for $1400. Let the next guy (Jim) do upgrades if he wants or thinks it is necessary. Dennie
  15. Hey Twu, You may have read something I wrote. Like...taking a blanket off of the speakers or Night and Day difference. Well, it didn't jump out at me as soon as I replaced the crossovers. I noticed it over time. Sure, the speakers sounded better. But it was really over a couple of weeks that the difference really became apparent. So, give it some time and listen to some of your favorite music, stuff you are familiar with and let us know if you start to hear differences. Congratulations on your new capacitors and doing the "handy work" yourself, and I do think you will start to notice them sounding better, the more you listen. Dennie
  16. Good for you, I am such a novice I was afraid that something would probably blow up if "I" tried to rebuild them. Bob also sells parts. There are other crossovers out there and other parts too, I was just sharing my experience. I also feel I should say, your La Scala's may sound great. I was not trying to tell you that they "must" sound bad, just because mind did and I didn't know it. I just could not believe the difference, when I added the new crossovers. I am looking forward to following your progress, Dennie
  17. That's exactly what my 30 year old AA crossovers looked like in my La Scala's and I thought they sounded great too. WRONG!!! I bought a pair of these from Bob & Michael Crites............ It was literally like taking a blanket off of my speakers. The Bass was now there, the Mids and Highs just cleared up. The sound was night and day and I'm not using that term lightly. I now here "Air" around the cymbal's, which was blocked by that blanket I spoke of. They just sound like completely new speakers. I always wondered if my tweeters might be blown, but now I know they are not, it was just the old capacitors. I asked Bob on the phone if I would really hear a difference, because like you, I thought my speakers sounded great with the original crossovers, he just laughed. Now I know why! Here is a LINK to his site -------------> CLICK HERE Dennie
  18. Hi Seagull, It has taken me some time to get my La Scala's sounding right. They are so big that you not only have to aim the fronts of the speakers, you have to adjust the backs also. I have found the Toe-in to be important. Also, distance from my ears made a big difference. I sit on the right side of the room, (a sofa) and I always had the speakers a equal distance from the back wall. But the imaging was just not quite right. I fooled with the toe-in many times and had it almost right, but not quite. Well, one day I decided to make the speakers a equal distance from my ears. So the left speaker was 13 feet from my seating position and the right speaker was 11 feet. This is where the problem was. So I moved the left speaker forward and the right speaker backwards, until the were both equal distance from my sitting position, about 12 feet, and the imaging just came together. It might take some time, but it is worth it. Good to hear you've got them up and running and are now enjoying them. Dennie
  19. Very Nice Cut Throat! It is obvious that you cared about what you were doing and it shows! Thanks for sharing the Pic's. Dennie
  20. Absolutely Correct! What we hear can be much different than what you hear. Go listen to as many speakers as you can and take notes, as we tend to forget what we just heard. Compare notes and go back and listen to the ones you liked the most. It is only you that these speakers must please. Not us. Dennie
  21. Yeah, they are different and the knobs on the back are different also. Everything else is identical. That's what happens when you wait two years to buy the second sub! I'm picky but I'm willing to accept the small difference. You have a sharp set of eyes. Thanx, Russ Hey Russ, It is a beautiful set up! If someone walk's into that room, they are going to know you are serious about your music, no doubt. I just happen to catch it and I wouldn't be bothered by it either. True Stereo, a Beautiful Thing! Dennie
  22. Wow! Very nice set up! Now you truly have stereo! Congratulations! Wait, are the emblems different? It may be the lighting? (audio nuts, only we would noticed something like that. LOL) Dennie
  23. SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll take two! [] Dennie
  24. So then, I guess the question is......what is the condition of the speakers? I think that even if they are in original condition and not abused, it would be tough to find a pair of speakers that have the potential of the La Scala's for this price. Add the cost of new capacitors or crossovers and it is still a very fair price, especially if they are hard to come by up north. Dennie
