  1. My guess is that $400/mo is his rent or mortgage. That mailing address is what allows him to access the public library. But, that's just a guess. As far as the size of the files, I gave up and purchased a 160G iPod. I have over 400G of music but I can pare it down to a "reasonable" level with the 160G iPod. I was planning on switching to the iPhone so I could eliminate one device, but the memory constraints led me to just blow that off. I use an android phone and an ipod.
  2. Simply right click on a song. In the pop up box select "create apple lossless version". Bingo. I opened up individual albums and used the shift key to highlight the entire thing. Then delete the non lossless version. A bit of a pain, but worth it. Then change your preferences - import settings - to lossless and from now on anything you import will be lossless.
  3. Saddest thing I've read in a long time. So sorry to hear. The Dude is a big dog lover. As in big dogs.
  4. As much as I lust over the uber high end stuff, my habit keeps me from persuing said gizmos. However, what I have been able to determine is that some of the ancient stuff is capable of creating sublime sounds and producing an audio chub! Well done Sir.
  5. I'm not sure that's right. Apple has lossless available on iTunes for importing stuff, but I'm no tso sure that the default isn't MP3. I reburned all my CDs to iTunes with Lossless specified. When I listen to them through my Squeezebox I am unable to discern a difference. HOWEVER....I don't possess a phenom CD player. I do posess very old ears and gear most guys here would scoff at....so there may be other issues at work. Check to make sure you downloaded it in lossless. As far as the argument, I buy almost ALL my discs on AMZN. The only thing I'll download is something that I can't find or its so rare that the cost is beyond my reach.
  6. Thanks for the info. I get back tomorrow night. With luck, they'll still be available. I've had CL deals fall apart on numerous occasions so I'm not holding my breath. They're hooked up and I'll be able to listen to them. I've got a Phase 400 lying around so the power ought not be an issue.
  7. A local gent has a pair in very nice physical condition. At least, they look very nice in the pics. He claims they sound great and is asking 150. I'm out of town and will give them a listen when I return. From what I have read, they need lots of power, the mylar tears, and aluminum wiring readily corrodes. 30 years ago I was in Myer Emco in DC when a guy was blasting The Doors, "Love Me Two Times" through them. They sounded great, although I'm pretty sure they were a larger model than the MG1's. Any opinions?
  8. Find some cheap KG4's on CL. Use them as the mains and the KG2s in the rear. Lotsa sound, notsa much.
  9. Buy CDs on Amazon. Used, cheap. Sweeeeet! Plus, they look cool in a huge bookcase.
  10. I have a Marantz SR7000 a Yamaha RX V1500. The plan is to sell one. Any recs?
  11. One pair Walnut Heresey II. One RC 3 Center One RSW 10 Sub One pair Quintet rears One Marantz SR 7000 All excellent to near mint cond. $550 USD Pretty pleased with this score, even though I spent a bit more than I am used to. I really wanted the Heresey's!
  12. Greetings Gents, I'm pondering selling my RF35's. I have no idea what they're worth in todays market. Would anyone care to opine or razz? They're black and in mint condition. As new, with the boxes, feet, styrofoam etc.
  13. I also use the Niles SPK-1. Easy and cheap.
  14. I have not. The 12V setup is fine till you want to whump, then it craps out a bit. I am using an old pair of SF1's for my out side set up, but I have used the Lepai (just for grins) with CF3, KG5.2s, KG 3.2's and Chorus. The result has been the same with all. The nice thing about the 25 watt Lepai is that it has seperate bass and treble controls. None of the 24V models I have seen (to date) have them, just a volume pot.
  15. It will get fairly loud, but if you try to crank it too much it will become evident at once. I find that changing the tone controls a bit will allow louder volume without distortion. I'm thinking of trying two 12V batts in series and a larger 24v Tri-Path amp.
  16. I bought a touch a while back and aside from a few minor glitches I've been very happy with it. There was a software update which went unrecognised for a while which caused it to need a reboot often, but that's been fixed. I went all Apple Lossless for simplicity. It's very easy to convert recordings to lossless, and since I had about 400 Gig, I wanted easy. The Touch will read and find music files that I am unable to locate on my PC or itunes. As such, I cannot edit some of them. A minor issue, but one none the less. Othes more PC savvy probably won't find this an issue. There is also an android app which allows you to control the touch from your phone. Nice if your eyesight isn't what it used to be. My Touch is too far from the prime listenting spot to read the screen and use its remote. But using the phone hooks you right up. Nice.
  17. Gennimens..... Does anyone have a copy of this David Allan Coe CD? If you'd be so kind as to burn me a copy I'd be happy to mail you a fifth. It's quite rare and VERY expensive. Well beyond my gubmint cheese lifestyle!
  18. Kenwood Integrated Amp - Dual 1228 TT - Bozaks - Koss Pro 4A's. A older buddy of mine had his license and we used to drive to Korvettes at the mall and spend hours looking at albums. They used to be three bucks which was significantly cheaper than anywhere else in town. Then we'd hit the high end stereo stores and drool. The kenwood died. I tossed the dual at some point and the starter got the bozaks.
  19. Forte II's for 450 is a good price if they are in nice shape. Well done. WRT the passives, I wouldn't worry too much about them. I heard a pair with a large hole in one of the passives and they sounded great. I then heard them again with a replaced passive and they sounded......great. It was a few months apart, but I'm not sure if I could even tell the difference. If you ever decided to resell them and the passives were crummy looking as a result of the repair then you may suffer a bit on price. But not much. I'd be much more concerned with the shape of everything on the front and the look of the cabs. They're pretty big. It's important to me that they look good since they occupy a fair amount of real estate. They're like breasts, they're hard not to look at. And if they're NICE, they're really nice to look at. Can I say that here????
  20. I had a DUAL 1229 ?? TT, a pair of Bozak speaks similar in size to the large Advents and a Kenwood integrated amp. I was quite pleased. I earned the money delivering newspapers, mowing lawns etc etc. I recently bought my daughter a pair of Klipsch KSF 10.5s and a monster Onkyo amp/pre/tuner set up of CL. It sounds pretty darn good and the prices were idiotically low. I held up a quicky mart for that one.
  21. The King of Bluegrass Acoustic Guitar passed today.
