  1. Man that is a bummer- Really sorry that you are not coming. I know that you would if there was any possible way. Hopefully a rain check in the not so distant future.
  2. Yeah whats up with TH????? Hope no health issues.Kinda odd- He usually checks in couiple of times a week. Walked miles around the NRA convention in Charlotte today. My ankle is killing me. Feel like I was chased for 5 miles-caught - and beat with a baseball bat. Loads of cool stuff- never seen so many guns and gear in my life. Going back tommorow. Saw only about 1/2 of what was there. i will be a cripple by monday from walking on concrete floors. checking out some vinly tonite- old stuff with obscure names- blues mostly Sipping on my recent beer of choice- Modelo Especail with a chunk of lime Everybody have a great weekend.
  3. Pick out some driving tunes- saddle up and go to where the stuff is- buy from the forum garage- You will meet some of the nicest people who will help you out and enjoy seeing you better your system. I have some of the best people buying and selling gear on this forum. Screw E-bay unless it is something you gotta have right now.
  4. Leaving politics at the door per forum rules. WOW!!!!!!!!!What a gear show- Every gun and accessory manufacturer on the planet- literally. I walked the huge convention center in downtown Charlotte for 5 hours unll my gimpy ankle from a previous injury could take no more. I saw about 1/2 of what I wanted to look at. Imagine an audio show with every piece of audio gear in current production under 1 roof. This show is the equivalent. Black rifles- 70k shotguns- Ar 15 type rifles galore- pistols- air guns- ammo-clothing- outfitters for trips- pink 22s for your daughter- you name it- it was there. If you have any interest in guns- if you are within driving distance- I highly reccomend it- It is a firearm/ gear display that you woll see few times in a lifetime You can pick the items up and dry fire everthing- even the full auto stuff from the action movies that the gen public typically cannot buy. If anybody is going shoot me an e-mail- I will buy you a beer.
  5. sipping a Modelo Especial with a chunk of lime. Hot as balls here. Big NRA convention in Charlotte this weekend. 400 firearm vendors. 80 k people. resturants will be slammed. I need to stay away and not get the idea to buy any new gun toys but the temptation will be too much. Pretty much spent out on audio stuff so not much cash to put at risk which may be a good thing. Headed out to burn a cuban smoke at the cigar store. Maybe cook a nice filet tonight. too damn hot to drink a red. Looks like a vodka and beer night. Ace- buy a can of fix a flat- stuff works OK. bummer- somethings always happens- murphys law. Mike- glad you are coming to Bob's- It will be good to see you and throw back a few beverages. Where the heck is TH???? Hope it is not a health issue. Cheers everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I think what you are seeing are asking prices which are often non realistic and do not resemble the actual sale in the current market. Not just in heritage speakers but in general- people dont have money to spend like in 2006-2007. Cash is king. Heritage speakers are still high demand items but they are often the first to go- along with guns- boats-4 wheelers ect when cash is needed to keep the lights on or make the car payments. When if the economy comes back the 1500.00 70s-80s vintageK horns will jump to 2500.00 quickly - which is where they should be in the first place and were before TSHTF economy wise. I have been wartching / drooling over heritage speakers for a number of years and I have never seen them this cheap. The forum garage prices are pretty much spot on in most cases.
  7. I would re- arrange my stuff and shoehorn in a 3rd CW. A ton of your program material goes to the center channel speaker. If you go much smaller the CW IIs will be too much for the center. I have heard 3 CW 1s used together with Heresey rears and it sounded great.
  8. Cambridge audio is a super source for killer values. Some of their entry level and discoutinued CD players are the best values in their class. I would not hesititate to buy their phono pre.
  9. What is your budget? - 2 choices- VRDs or a vintage unit rebuilt by NOS Valves- Contact Craig- He also has used stuff/trades from time to time. He runs Lascalas in his personal system.
  10. Another twist to this scenario I have limited access to a new 275 with new set of 2007 or 2008 K horns- 220 pre- rega CD player- rega TT. We cranked it up to past 12:00 on the preamp- while swilling down a couple of bottles of killer wine. Pretty awesome. Gotta admit. Tom Petty Mudcrutch audiophile CD - came with the vinyl- CD- Did a comparison with my VRDs at 12:30 on the Peach volume control. Rattling the windows- cracking the plaster- I have my preconcieved notions but IMHO the VRD clearly won the race. The VRD is sooo gin clear at high volumes. Bear in mind that my K horns are highly modded 2" trackhorn examples from 1984 production. Monster JBL drivers. crites 125 new tweeters- ALK universal clones- 2 " trachorns- . The modded K horks and the VRDs murdered the 275 IMHO with the latest/ greatest K horns(unmodded). Maybe not a fair contest but the VRDs love running at high volume levels.Checking in at 60 watts in the linear mode they pack a ridiculious punch for a high end tube box. If you dont get cold chills from listening to this setup you aint breathing. The 275s are imposible to say anything bad about- but the VRDS are in a undefinable class alone at their price point in so many catagories. The more I listen and the more I think about it- They are different machines for different applications and buyer scenarios. Unfair comparioson.
  11. Dont do that. The idea is to keep stuff away from other stuff within reason. I put my VRDs on a cheapie metal/ wood cart shelf out in front and away from the other stuff with plenty of air space from the other shelves.- I would also consider a very sturdy wall shelf for them. Whatever it takes- do it. VRDs at any cost. The ends in this case jutify the means.[6]
  12. Shoot them with a moonshine dipped dart. While they are passed out tape a XX rated picture of the new Supreme court judge nominee to their noses.Promise you they will never come back . That would however be considered cruelty to animals. Supposedly a 12 ga with rubber slugs will make them run screaming never to return. Buddy in canada with a bear problem uses them as a non lethal deterent. Swears by them Yes it is getting close- can't wait.
  13. HT is pretty forgiving as to electronics as long as you have the right speakers Any of the stuff mentioned here will do a great job provided you have plenty of power to drive your stuff. My reference speaker system was pretty much identical to yours at one point. the pre pro /receiver with outboards is the way to go. Those top end reference speakers LOVE power and sound great doing it. I ran a Sony flagship HT amp with mine using a mixture of Carver and B&K outboards. I would have most likely bought a Marantz if i had it to do over. I have heard great things about Integra. good luck with your choice
  14. Prices are dirt cheap now IMHO. I wish I had more room to buy and store stuff until the market comes back. My buddy just GAVE away a set of nice cornwalls for 550.00. Wish I had room for them. Wife woulda killed me. I have bought a room full of heritage that I would never been able to buy in good economic times. Patience(and a willingness to drive thousands of miles) is a virtue when looking for this stuff. Charlotte NC is a podunk hell hole when it comes to audio gear. I have over 4k miles invested in fetching stuff. I have bought zero stuff locally.
  15. Bring your TT to the shindig at Bob's place in a couple of weeks. He can most likely build the thing in a couple of hours.
  16. I thank them as well not just for the VRD tip but also for my selecting heritage early on . It is indeed a shame that a company such as mac would ship their beautiful 275 with garbage tubes. This about the 10th owner that I have heard repeat the same story. No excuse for this. They could raise the price say 500.00 - put good tubes in place of the crummy ones - people would still buy them and be more satisfied with the product.
  17. 2 parts Makers Mark- 3 parts Ga moonshine- 2sf of lexan ( stolen from the maint hangar at work)- 8 wood screws- 2 hinges(also robbed from work)- 1/2 cup of aviation fuel(also stolen from work). pour the mixture on the TT. Step and light the concoction with one of Bobs cigar lighters and .. Presto- dust cover[] Please send 50.00 to my paypal account for consulting fees[D]
  18. To put things into a practical perspective in layman terms I dont know a cap from a resistor. No scientific knowledge whatsoever. I am a trial and error component swapper. When I came to this froum17 months ago I got some pretty good advice from senoir members of this forum. I tried to do it MY way- with a bunch of powerhouse SS components rather than listening to people who knew their stuff. It did not work. I ended up buying the wrong components for my application. Fortunately, I was able to sell them to others for more suitable applications. I had never heard of VRDs as they had no mainstream name recognition(like Mac). This is my 4th set of amplifiers. The experts- AN and Craig in this thread know their stuff. The information provided is 100% sales comission free- un baised- solid gold.Take it and run with it. VRDs- Peach preamp- Jolida tube CD and modded K horns with 2 good TTs- I am done throwing money away to get the 2 ch sound that I want. I am now in the mode of enjoying my system rather than trying to get it right. The VRDs are well worth whatever you have to pay for them. Friends listem to my system and are amazed by the small sum invested and are sick over what they paid to professional installers and high end audio stores to get the pretty blue lights The technical aspects of repair issues discussed certainly further support the chioce of the VRDs
  19. Ate a couple of those brownies back in the 70s- maybe thats what is wrong with me now[]
  20. He does- I think it needs a set up man- I am not- will bring see what happens The PS audio GPCH get killer reviews - won many awards- they sell immediately on Ag if not priced in the stupid zone. Very happy with mine- until I hear something that changes my opinion- TT rookie here. Really curious to hear other opinions.
  21. Just finished a tequila sunrise and a Partagas Series D # 4 cuban. Mighty fine for a Sunday morning
  22. I prefer to give thanks as the sun comes up in a duck blind or a deer stand on a beautiful fall morning. Or when a bass sucks under a top water plug. Maybe a perfect target on the pistol range or a straight 50 shooting *****. Watching two english pointers lock up on a hidden pheasant. Time spent in the outdoors with my kids is my religion. Too many rules and cliques at churchs in the big city.I would rather give my 10 % to a worthy cause or a struggling record shop owner. I have a pressing appointment with a 5 lb bass after I drop by to see my mother. Have a great Sunday at church or otherwise.
  23. Mine should get some kind of national award for not killing me at a very early age. Mothers are priceless.
  24. Is there any interest in checking out my PS audio GCPH preamp-?? assuming that somebody is bringing a TT- I dont have much room.Car has no storage space- enough for your @ss -a gallon of gas- and maybe a 12 pack.
