  1. It's time for me to start organizing my media files (mainly audio), backing up my Cd's and vinyl on a server and be able to integrate them with my audio and HT system and I don't have a clue how to process the options that are out there within the confines of the budget I have set for this part of the system. I've searched through the posts and goggled, in an attempt to gather information, but I can't seem to find solid information regarding DAC's and management software, so I'm reaching out again to those that can offer suggestions. 1. DAC suggestions at $500 max new or used purchase price. 2. Management software for the media files that can EASILY covert my existing formats to high quality digital files and allow simple and seamless integration with my A/V equipment. 3. Sound cards (internal or external) that don't cost more than $300
  2. Kind of sucks that I have to go through Super Bowl Sunday with my TV's crappy speakers. You didn't miss much as the sound had problems from the pregame through the half time show. You must have missed the post that Wuzz made prior to this regarding him taking a different direction in his life.
  3. I already opened up and exposed my kinder, gentler side, but lets not push the envelope. []
  4. Welcome to the forum! There are many ways you can go with this and get good results. If your Heresy's are updated and or upgraded, have you considered buying or building a great sub? I would try that first and see what you think and then go from there. The reason I mention this as an option is that regardless of the mains I'm running, RF7's, Cornwall 2's or Cornscala's the proper integration of a sub is the only thing that gets the bass to the level I want it with all the music I listen to. They are all great speakers in their own right, but ................. based on that statement (which I made a couple of years ago with the 7's), I think that you will eventually end up going with a sub, so I'm just offering an opinion based on my personal experience.
  5. Are these http://www.audiogear.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?key=NL2FC&preadd=action the ones that you are using and just wiring in 12g speaker wire?
  6. I didn't order any of those yet. I've never used them before and I won't be sure exactly where this amp will be in the final set up until I've had a chance to play with it. My amp has been delayed because of the storm and transportation delays. Tracking is telling me Tuesday now. What's the advantage to a Neutrix connector over 1/4" in a home situation?
  7. I just wanted to follow up. I received the big shipment from Monoprice yesterday and they are definitely my supplier from this point on. All the cables are constructed well, heavy yet flexible, I especially like the xlr's to 1/4" compared to the ones I had and of course, the price was great as well.
  8. I'm glad to hear that, since it's your job to make sure that it stays in place, regardless of the business transition. We're counting on you.[]
  9. Hey Wuzzzer, are you looking digital just for the size of the receiver? I'm only asking because for a $200 budget there are a lot of fine used receivers out there.
  10. I'm not sure if you picked up your receiver yet but as others have suggested, you can purchase up going used. I picked up a Sony DE997 in perfect condition for under 100 bucks just so I had a back up 7.1 if the Onkyo puked. If you back off to 5.1 and don't get hung up on HDMI switching there are great deals out there on great receivers that were 1000-2000 that you can pick up dirt cheap that will allow you to focus on the mains and center and sub and you could pull off a really good performing system and stay around your budget. IMHO
  11. Happy February! At times the adversity in your life will bring about the greatest rewards and growth. Keep [] and posting.
  12. You sir are correct! It's one of the tracks on the list to check off and this year, I'm going to go. I remember a trip into Richmond about 20 years ago when a company was trying to pursued me to run an office and live in the area and I'm going to put a disclaimer on this and the riots are going to start,[] I grew up in N.E. Pa. and lived in S.C. for over 15 years..............that said, we're driving down Monument Ave. and the money man is going on and on about the history of Richmond; we drove past the monument of Robert E. Lee and he said to me, "just look at that" and I couldn't help myself, as getting a reaction is just a part of who I am, and I looked him square in the eye and said "That's the finest second place trophy I've ever seen"[] O.K., everyone relax and get another drink and enjoy the moment for what it is. YOU WEREN'T THERE and have no skin in the game so just take a deep breath and laugh.......I did, but needless to say, I didn't move to Richmond.
  13. When I come down in April for the Richmond race (assuming you still have a roof over your head when the wife gets a look at them), I would love to hear them.
  14. I've made some comments in prior posts that try and express how grateful, on many levels, I am for getting into Klipsch and finding this forum and group of people (there are some exceptions djnic). Being away for a couple of months and then coming back with some questions on a project, gave me a greater appreciation than I already had, for how much, many of you, go out of your way to try and assist people, that you don't know at all, get through projects, offer condolences and sympathy when they run into tough times, provide comic relief in an ever changing world, trust with no real reason to, and many other qualities that defy everything we watch on the news. Today, was a perfect example of what those qualities mean in the big picture. There are many people that are out there, regardless of their social status, income level, education, political affiliation as well as many other factors that would normally separate us that in most cases get pushed to the side on this forum, to reach out and share a passion that can look beyond all those things and truly try and help out someone you don't even know. What a pleasure it has been, and hopefully will continue to be. My e-mail was loaded today with offers from members that were not solicited, but for some reason there was a ton of them. Just blind offers of if you're interested, if I can help, just wanted to let you know, it just overwhelmed me and made me read through the pages of PM's and e-mails that were there over the last 2 years and really appreciate all of them. I know that most of you have had the same experience during your time on this forum and I just thought it was time for me to say thanks to all of you, and if I can ever help any of you, I will. To any new members that stumble upon this; welcome, and you will understand what I am trying to express soon. Sincerely, Pete
  15. You're right about that! I find lots of bass content in unexpected places, like ads on TV or radio program intros, as well as in music where it is expected. Without the sub, I simply wouldn't hear a significant part of my daily audio. One audio magazine writer said that, much to his surprise, a good sub enabled him to hear subtle audio cues about the size of the performance space. It seemed to have some effect into the mid-range, sort of like how some people say supertweeters have audible effects in the treble, although the supertweeters' actual output is inaudible.I couldn't agree more. I called friends that were blown away with some of the set ups they had heard in my house and when I finally heard the sub integrated properly with the mains listening to music, I called all of them and said "you don't understand, that wasn't good, wait until you hear this" It's just one more rung on the ladder.
  16. That would be like having a disco in your HT room; you could be on to something here as a planned effect; when the bombs go off in the movie the lights would dim as your body is feeling the LF waves. We just need to figure out how to have it trigger debris to fly around the room at the same time and make everyone wear depends if it's an action movie and we might just have a business venture here. OK, I'm half kidding but there was a movie called "strange days" that was completely based on the premise that people will pay a lot of money to experience (in a safe environment) things that they're really scared to experience; we could pioneer the million dollar HT room that's a condensed version of the rides at Universal Studio's.[~]Rudy, you're the test subject and you're going to need a few more circuits!
  17. A couple of weeks ago I drug out the Cornscala's and played with them and one of my subs along with a backup Sony receiver I had laying around. Much to my surprise when the Cornscala's were set to small and the crossover was dialed in on the sub, the difference was amazing. The small setting was much better and the RSW 15 became seamless with all music. The only reason I even tried this was I had never even played anything through this Sony that I was going through the manual trying to get a handle on the menu system that I just flipped them to small to make sure it was working and I'm glad I did because I would have never set the Corns to small. That said, my RF35's, RB5's or 61's set to small with the sub doing the same duty are going to sound like the Corns at all, so I'm of the camp stating that I would still buy the 7's because those with a well placed quality sub are wonderful too and that's my HT and audio set up in the man cave at the moment. JMO
  18. I just couldn't hold it in anymore (I imagine that the dog was thinking the same thing) WELCOME TO THE FORUM!You could have said.......I'm glad to see that there is a little knowledge as well as attempts at good humor.[]
  19. Please post it, I'm sure it will be more entertaining than my "Well I have 3 speakers and 3 of a kind beats 2 of a kind"
  20. WOW! Price per rated watt is off the chart. Do you think that might be just a small overkill on the headroom department for really efficient horn loaded subs! LOL[] I think on the next Klipsch gathering everyone just needs to bring their amps, tube, SS, old, new, pro and consumer and throw in some little T-amps, a few sets of Klipsch (Heritage, Reference, Pro, Cinema and a couple of builds) and have a listen. I think in the amp department we could come up with representation from most manufacturer's and all price ranges. We would have to have some of the techs of the group measure everything so that during the blind listening tests when a majority of the group decides what they most like, we can learn that we don't know what we're talking about because the tests prove that it can't sound good[]. If you're not smiling at that, you need to put down the test equipment now, take a couple steps back and think happy thoughts! I would seriously love to hear a ton of different amps.
  21. You've gotta love trying new things and adding new equipment, it's what keeps our "sport" hobby alive.[]
  22. I got the DCA1622 and it will probably be used on the set of Spuds but I'll be listening to it initially on the RF7's and the Cornscala's so I can hear how it compares to the Carver's, and one of these days when I get around to hooking up the active crossover that has been gathering dust for a while, I needed to get more amps for when that happens as well as when I decide on a prepro to replace the HT receiver. I'm still going to need 4 or 5 more amps when this is all said and done so for under $400, I wasn't going to pass on this one and it was time to stick my foot in the pro amp waters.
  23. My QSC should be arriving tomorrow or Monday, but the only comparison I'll be able to offer for now will be between my Carver(home amps) and this QSC. I may reach out to some of the other members that are in my area that have different pro amps to do a little swapping. Looking strictly at the pictures, those Mackie's look to be the tanks of the lot.
  24. I'm sure they sound great and I'm going to be doing a version with the original C 2's I have and I built the split Cornscala's when someone sold a set of Dave's horns to me because they didn't do their project. I'm sure you won't have any problem getting rid of the horns and drivers. The great thing about so many variations of Bob's original Cornscala is that you can go many different ways and end up with a very nice improvement over the original.
