  1. I have never heard ML subs before. I have been very pleased with the bass output on the Khorn and I imagine they pair well with just about any sub. I have ~20' ceilings in a great room open to dining area, kitchen and entryway and they flat out thump all by themselves. They are definitely lacking in the really deep stuff, but have plenty of output for all but the the deepest bass and they are not even in perfect corners for loading.
  2. That is a sick all heritage setup. What pre/pro / amp / subs are you running? I am also curious how the Heresy are mounted. I love the idea of running 11 channels and a 8801 is next on my list after I get my sub situation dealt with. I know how enveloping 5 and 7 channels are and I can only imagine that 4 extras really takes that to a new level.
  3. That does look slick. Initially, that is why I was drawn towards the KPT stuff. Even though it is black industrial, it still looks good mounted on the wall angled down like that. Heresey would be easy to do as front high hanging from the ceiling above the Khorns.
  4. Soak 'em in worcestershire sauce for a while then grill for 6 mins per side (slightly longer or shorter depending on temp and thickness). Simple and delicious recipe that gives the meat a real buttery flavor.Favorite cut is good rib-eyes but works with NY too. If you really like NY, try to whip up a good peppercorn sauce to go with it, you'll never go back to table steak sauce.
  5. Sort of a 'unholy alliance' between the RF and Heritage gear...
  6. I was thinking about this for extreme overkill. 11 channel set up Khorn mains Belle center RS-52 front high presence RS-83 front wide Heresy side surround RS-52 rear surround All finished in that nice black ash veneer. Maybe 8 DIY 18's to go with it... I would have to trade some amps around to figure that out, but other than that, I have all the gear on hand.
  7. On paper, the reference gear has a wider range of frequency response. I don't have near enough time with my heritage gear to make a definitive judgement, but I will say in plain two channel stereo listening (albeit in different rooms with different amps) the Khorns (and Heresy for that matter) have a much fuller sound when it comes to mid-range and bass. If it wasn't such a project to haul them around, I could do some real side-by-each comparisons. I agree though, saying x speaker is much better than y can be misleading. What kind of amps / source? What sort of room? etc.
  8. Thanks for the input. The corners are much better in my theater room than in my living room and I think a pair of Cornscala's would be just as good as the khorns for the living room. I love the sound the RF-83 puts out, but I have never been a fan of how deep and skinny the speaker is. Plus the Khorns + the Belle once cleaned up with new veneer would definitely be a meaningful upgrade. I know the RS-52 would never keep up with that front sound stage. The KPT-250 looks very similar to the Heresy but has different drivers. In a perfect world I wouldn't mind having LaScala rears but I am thinking the pro stuff would be an acceptable compromise to keep everything off the floor. On paper, all of those pro surrounds look like they could easily keep up.
  9. I am thinking about moving my newly acquired Khorns & Belle into the home theater at some point in the future to displace the RF-83 / RC-64. Given the room layout, I think they would look much better, and I am quite certain they would sound better. I know lots of people seem to enjoy Belle/LaScala/Heresy surrounds, but the KPT-250 or KPT-12-VB both look like a winner for surround duty, When it comes to surrounds, I really would like to have something on the wall opposed to the floor. I have yet to talk to my dealer about pricing on the pro stuff and there isn't much available on the web at the moment. Anyone have thoughts on blending these with Khorn / Belle and / or pricing for used?
  10. If you are into 5 channel stereo or something like that, bookshelves would be fine. I think for actual surround content in movies and the like, RS wide dispersion works great. I have used both in my HT setup, and I prefer the RS. If you have a single bookshelf right there pointed at your listening position, I think you gain a bit of clarity from surround content but it is very localized and you always know exactly where the sound is coming from. RS by design really open up the surround content by not aiming it right at your head but bouncing it off the walls around and behind you. It makes for a more enveloping experience. You could try both though and see what you prefer, it is not like bookshelves will sound bad or anything. I wouldn't say it is a major upgrade going with RS, just a tad more open and subtle.
  11. Have you heard the rs model for surrounds? I love mine.
  12. Nope. I was about this close to just getting them when those Khorns and belle came up on craigs... so that and new xo's took a bite out of the budget. Still not selling my JL, and now it is getting close to fishing season. Going to upgrade some electronics on the boat this year, so subs might have to wait until next winter. We'll see...
  13. I think they are done with that line. Heard something about a new sub coming out at some point but at a higher price point
  14. Stereo Integrity is all out of the D4 18" subs...
  15. +1 Between insanely loud car stereos in my younger years and working in industry most of my adult life, I have some measurable hearing loss and it pretty much sucks. Just in case anyone doesn't know, here is a good link to get an idea of how much is too much if you are concerned. http://www.dangerousdecibels.org/education/information-center/decibel-exposure-time-guidelines/ Now-a-days, I have done a good deal of measuring output and have a good feel for adjusting volume as required to prevent further damage via radio shack device and iphone app. Booze makes it harder to keep exposure below the level that I would experience another permanent threshold shift.

    List Your Least

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit...
  17. Good review. My Denon 3808 is on the list to be upgraded and I have my eye on the Marantz 8801...
  18. Ahhhhh... I see the plastic piping in between layers now. I didn't try that. My seal job didn't provide any noticeable sonic improvements. I am out of town for a few weeks but will try that as soon as I get home. The real problem is the window and ledge. I might try a small plywood cutout to cover it up but either way I think I can live with it!
  19. Right now Male artist: Trent Reznor NIN Female Artist: Alison Krauss Band: Modest Mouse
  20. Slightly different specs. Never heard the II series but I can't imagine it is a night and day improvement. http://www.klipsch.com/rc-62-ii-center-speaker/details#specs http://www.klipsch.com/rc-62/details#specs
  21. I love Craigs. Luckily, I am up here in Alaska so I can't indulge in large metro or multi state area searches. I still look almost every day. That would be huge trouble for my marriage. Here are my best finds: Marantz 2226b for $80 Marantz 2270 for $100 Heresy in raw birch for $450 Then just last week the hands down, best find ever for me. Two walnut Klipshorn and one walnut Belle for $525!
  22. Contacted Dean, interested in the super AA now. My wife hates this forum...
  23. Those ID horns are bad-***. This installer back in colorado turned me on to them back in the '90's. I never did get a pair but did run IDQ 15"s for a while. Image Dynamics makes a fantastic product. Look into Mmats for your amps too.
  24. I had two IDQ 15" subs in the back of a extended cab toyota tacoma for a while off a MMATS amp. They make excellent subs and I wish I didn't get rid of them.
