  1. Happy b-day guys, I just turned 30 day before yesterday myself....
  2. "As for construction, Klipsch "put allot more" into the cabinet exterior veneer quality on the RB5 than the RF3." That wouldn't effect the sound. The difference between these speakers is the rb has a real would veneer and the rf has an extra driver. I personally equate this to; one is geared a little more towards sound quality, and the other to looks since they cost the same, but thats jmho. If you need to use stands, then that drives up the cost of the Rb5s even more. You can't really go wrong with either. I myself am happy with my Rf3s...

  4. So many different types of metal used and designs, not to mention break in time. Its tough to decide what type of both speaker wire and interconnects to use. Who has the time and money to demo this stuff on a wide varity of gear? I think every system may even benifit from a different type and design depending on the room and the equipment used. But there again I havn't a/b'd enough to know. Like Ray said, its nice to hear anything you buy in your own room and have the option of returning it. Easier said than done as that may limit yor choices. I know myself its not easy. Especially for the price of some of these exotic cables.
  5. Dougdrake, I have heard you would want to keep the same type, be it either straned or solid, to both hf/lf to stay time coherent. It is however ok to have different guages to either hf or lf of the same type. But then again thats just what I've heard...
  6. Probably could have got it alot cheaper this first time around before the new powercord and black spray paint.
  7. Well, the place where I bought these speakers is going to help me out. They're good people and I spend alot of money with them. In retrospect, I think I took it harder than I should have. I just take such pride in my equipment. Thanks for the concern everyone. Sorry I freaked, glad I didn't have to bug Trey.
  8. He is also omnipresent, he'd be on both sides. Sorry couldn't resist...
  9. Ditto, I agree with the above, and thats not to take anything away from the ksw-12. Its still a heck of a sub for the money, especially for movies. jmho
  10. "Nice work of mixing pieces of truth with pieces of absurdity to net a 100% obfiscation of things at hand, not to mention a general fouling of accepted statements with misplaced words and meaning" Do you talk like that on a daily basis? Bet you have a ton of friends.
  11. I think it would split the power in half and may cause inmendance problems on that amp stage but I don't know for sure. It would be the same thing as hooking up two sets of speaker cables to the same terminals.
  12. I'm sure others here are more qualified to offer suggestions. Take a look at these, I've only heard good things about them... http://www.divertech.com/antiquesl.html#INTEGRATED http://www.jolida.com/catalogue.html
  13. "How would this setup compare to an Eico (sound quality not price )? Because that's the only other option i have thought of." There are alot more intergrades than just the Eico in your price range. Plus good luck finding an eico(I assume hf 81) in good condition. Although this one looks like fun. ~> http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1386098654 The vintage HH scott's seems to be popular around here also. Antique Sound Labs(ASL) offer some inexpensive alternatives, although I haven't heard them. I'm sure they don't offer the sound quality of some of the vintages but aleast you don't have to recondition them. I'm sure you can get plenty of suggestions from around here that would fit the bill. But then again, there is nothing wrong with the hybrid mix either. Thats actually what I may do myself in the near future...
  14. Lynnm, Dean, thnx for the peice o mind. I guess I'll leave it for now. How much does a soldering iron go for? $10-$20?
  15. What os? Do you have an advance button under prefered playback device(I assume your card is already selected there) in sounds and multimedia? Mine has a list of all the speaker options.(w2k) I guess thats pretty much what Justin already said....
  16. I dont know if the fabric is any different. I think the main thing was how the bottom tapers up. People were breaking them(the grills) when leaning the speakers foward to screw with the binding posts. J.R.
  17. "I think the dent has been there for ever and you just only noticed it now" Your probably right, its the only thing I can come up with though. I havent hardly had the covers off since I bought them, and I checked real carefull when I got them. Since I dont have kids or anything, I'm stumped. All I can say is I haven't played them once since I found it, thats how disappointed I am. Does it effect the sound? Probably not, but they just will never be the same. Funny, every ref series speaker I've seen for demos, all had beat up cones.(poeple don't watch their kids enough when shopping.) I thought I was more careful than to let this happen. Yep, just won't be the same till its replaced or sold. (even though its pretty small) Sigh, Unhappy Camper
  18. Lynnm, just making an example, again sorry to the first three posters(Leok and Maxg also) didnt mean to imply anything about your statements. You just made easy examples. JR
  19. Recomendations, a couple of late 70's amps and one from what, an on-line only company? Either way they're few and far between and good luck finding one 20 watts or less thats of high quality. Maybe he even meant one that is class A up 20 watts. I really don't care either way as I was just making an example. If you reread my original post, I was refering to quality not quantity of either flavor. I just tried to give a word of caution that this board is biased, as I kinda felt this was the way the topic was leaning. Does that mean for some reason I have poor reading skills?
  20. Mobile, Response #1: "I suggest you stay under 20 Watts / chan" mh, maybe you'd like to recomend a few quality ss 20 watt amps? response #2: "I run a pair of KLF30's with a 30watt/channel tube amp and can rattle my windows anytime the noise bylaws permit. As pointed out above the quality of the power supplied to the speakers is far more important than the sheer quantity. That 1st watt is the most important." Does this mean tube amps supply more quality power? Response #3: I'll just say: my tube amp this my tube amp that...you don't need x number amount of watts da da da. Why not just say I have a tube amp thats this many watts and is loud as hell at half way. Why list 5 ss amps to talk about a tube one? First let me apoligize to the posters, I didn't mean to single you guys out. I know that these guys probably didnt mean to be pro or con anything. I was just using an example of three post with pro-tube overtones. And your right maybe I did read too deep, but that was just the first three posts, and you can see it clearly confused the original question asker. Why is that? Three people can respond and yet confuse more? Because of the way they answered... JR
  21. Quote "In a way, I think JollyRoger was acting more on bias himself and less on reading the actual text within the posts. Of course, I have always faulted the close reading skills in this forum, almost across the board." This is taken from the first three replys to this topics; "I suggest you stay under 20 Watts / chan" "I run a pair of KLF30's with a 30watt/channel tube amp and can rattle my windows anytime the noise bylaws permit. As pointed out above the quality of the power supplied to the speakers is far more important than the sheer quantity. That 1st watt is the most important." "Whilst there were differences in the sound they all sounded perfectly reasonable and they all went way too loud for my tastes. With the tubes (mine) they went so loud that I had to listen in the Garden with the volume on half way. In answer to your question you do not need 200 wpc." Is that not tube bias? mobile, you have a sharp tounge. Where else do you get those type responses to question about a three channel amp in conjunction with a ht reciever? Its people like you that make me not want to post here. What did you really add? Nothing! Just a personal attack. Yea your a real smart guy, it shows...
