  1. If you like HK, the 3490 is decent. 120 watts x 2, digital inputs and XM radio ready. Here are some specs, but buy it somewhere else (Crutchfield is too expensive). Haven't experienced the 3490 personally. I have the 3480 (all analog) and it's a great unit.
  2. This is sounding like the 'George Lucas effect' to me. These directors must understand that movies are meant to age and become part of movie history. How they age over time no one can predict. Lucas has been unable to leave Star Wars alone. Avatar is still very new and potentially has sequels and more of a backstory to offer. I don't want to equate Lucas with Cameron here, but Cameron should be careful. In re-releasing Titanic, he's banking on a new young audience to bring in the cash again. I wonder in this 'Twilight' crazed era if it will work.
  3. Cameron explains (here) why Avatar will be released in theaters again, with around 10 minutes of extra footage. Mentions a second and third sequel, too. The Avatar thing will be quite the cash cow. Also brings up that Titanic will be re-released in 3-D soon. eh.....
  4. Excellent question. I'm curious as well.
  5. Very nice matching subs! I repaired an SW-12, then gave it to my brother for his B-Day. I know the newer Klipsch subs deliver more wattage and punch, but I thought the SW-12 sounded awesome.
  6. Do you have a pair of matching SW-12s (or are those 15s)?
  7. I sold my RF-3IIs for $350. The RF-82s I bought for $550 locally. A good price considering their like new condition. The seller had the original packaging.
  8. Thrown away? Man.....so glad you stepped in. They don't need big power, but power amps give that effortless, bottomless, xtra horsepower sound. It's called 'headroom'. That Pioneer rated at 120 watts, being from the mid seventies, will do well. If a friend has a bigger amp, ask to borrow it (did I say good friend?) and see how it compares. Until then throw some tunes in!
  9. That's an amazing thing to get a pair of Chorus for free. Enjoy them! A quick Google search on that Pioneer says 120 watts per channel. Should power them nicely. Welcome to the forum.
  10. I owned RF-3 IIs for 7 years. After selling them, I purchased a pair of RF-82s. From what I remember about the RF-3 II, I'd say the RF-82 is smoother in the highs (not as bright) and the bass is more pronounced. Granted I wasn't able to do a direct A/B comparison. The Klipsch guy you talked with shouldn't compare the Forte II and RF-82, IMO. I don't see the RF-82 being a replacement for the Forte II. Heritage and Reference should be talked about like....Indonesian and Mexican food. Um...yeah. Both are very good, but have different tastes.
  11. It does look well made. I'm a big fan of heavy, solid, metal things.
  12. Don't know the Onkyo TX-SR705 personally, but it sold for $242 in 24 hours in the Garage Sale section. Here's the link. It has some of the things you wanted in the UMC-1: Audyssey, XM radio support, front panel inputs, Ipod ready.
  13. Just noticed this conversation piece. Not sure if "additional functionality over the standard UMC-1 remote" justifies spending $69. Here's the link. Anyone purchase and have opinions?
  14. I saw one in action at a Texas Hold 'Em party about a year ago. The host was more than happy to show off its slickness. Been thinking about picking one up ever since. Thanks for your concise review! It cleared up a few lingering questions on how it operates.
  15. May also be hard to find a local buyer if it doesn't fit your needs. I have a sunfire 200 x 5 and it works fine as hell. That said, that Sunfire on Ebay and mine were made in the mid nineties. Better to try an Emotiva. Newer, easier to sell/recoup. I bought an XPA-3 for $350 in my area two weeks ago. Only six months into its warranty. Woot!
  16. Welcome to the Forum Trixer. Ironsave has good points. If you're willing to buy used, there is a lot out there. If you are ok without HDMI, there are even more options. Most non-HDMI receivers go for $100 and under. In a non-HDMI situation, if you can find a receiver with 7.1 analog inputs matched with a Blue Ray player that has 7.1 analog preouts, you're ready for a decent home theater combo. This Onkyo model just sold in the Garage Sale section of this Forum for $242 shipped to the buyer's door. If you're patient, the deals will show up.
  17. With respect, most used 400 watt Sunfire amps sell for way more than $600. One might get the 200 watt x 5 version for $600-700.
  18. Thanks for your replies. psg, I'm using RF-7s as mains. I see, a proper center is the right way to go. But I'll try the 81s out and see how it sounds.
  19. Can't say for sure but my dealer has told me they won't be "officially" released for a couple weeks. Nothing wrong with creating some official spark here in the Forum. Not everyone combs the Home Theater section. Inquiring Klipsch heads would want to know!
  20. I haven't had experience with the RF-83 or RC-64, but I've read folks around here using a processor (many HT receivers will do) hooked up to power amps in the 125-200 watt range, like McIntosh, B&K, Emotiva, Aragon, Parasound to name a few. Take a look at member's signatures and stereo profiles. Click on people's names and check out wht they're using. It looks like Klipsch has made a new line. The RF-7 II and the RC-64 II. Read about it here. By next year the RF-83 and RC-64 may only be available second hand. This could be good or bad news for you. Hope it's good.
  21. Why isn't this news in the 'Announcements' section?
  22. I have a pair of RB-81s for sale in the Garage Sale section. Been thinking of keeping them for center channel duty. Read a couple posts in the archives saying that laying them down on their sides (tweeters together) would be acceptable. Am I just pursuing the wrong outcome here? Couple more questions. If a pair of 81s are OK as a center, should I hook them up in parallel? Would a 4 Ohm load be too much strain on one channel of an Emotiva XPA-3? Would this mess up the front stage? Or.... sell the RB-81s and find an RC-7 or RC-64. [H] Thanks again for your thoughts and time.
