  1. Heh, wouldn't have noticed without you pointing it out. You must have terabytes of pics duder! []
  2. winchester21 "...Or sell both sets and buy some bigger heritage" thebes "There is really only one solution. Sell both and buy some Cornwalls. Trust me this is the right way to go." +3. The Forte II has the Tractrix that you like, and very good low end. Here is a pair for sale in La Crosse (2 hours away from me). Older post but he may still have them.
  3. See what both sets sound like with other receivers/amps you have laying around. One pair might be less picky than the other. This may help (or complicate!) with who stays and who goes. I agree with the others saying 'go with your gut'. Seems the KGs are winning........
  4. I have used this from Parts Express in doing similar rubber surround replacements.
  5. I've seen two 3-D movies in theaters so far this year. With both experiences, I had a nasty headache the rest of the day. I don't think it's for me. When watching a movie (uninterrupted) I don't notice the world around me. I'm totally immersed in what's going on. Don't feel I need 3-D. Here is a lengthy article about 3-D by Roger Ebert.
  6. I still enjoy using my Sony MZR-700 Minidisc. Great for vocal recording, and it's gone with me to more than a few concerts. Captured a George Carlin show here in Madison in 2006. Sad that MP3's kind of squished them out of popularity.
  7. This way you get to spend money and get in trouble at home. I speak from experience. Excellent score Ironsave! Only advice from me is do not make any quick decisions. Listen for a while longer before keeping or selling. The value your speakers is solid. Think of Bob Marley's words "Every little thing is gonna be alright".
  8. Never owned a Sony ES cd unit, but had one skipping problem with an economy Sony single disc. After working for years it had a mind of it's own and wouldn't track right. Skipped here and there sporadically. Cleaning the laser's lense with a Q-Tip and Isopropyl Alcohol did the trick.
  9. My receiver seems to allow it. Toggling the surrounds to 'none', the front L and R play the surround signal along with their usual duty. The surround effects seem to be quieter than when going through the dedicated surrounds. This is a Harman Kardon AVR525. I only know this from using an incomplete HT system until we get into our new place.
  10. Very nice look to those. The guy did a good job with the grilles. I've heard tidmack's La Scalas briefly, and would love to hear more. Waiting for a score like yours to come around close to home. Excellent find! Better get a couple more days off work! []
  11. Thanks for the suggestions, Sub. But way more importantly, sorry about your mom. I've always been close to my parents and can only imagine.
  12. My kinda place, actually. He probably knows exactly where everything is! Well, unless he's old like me... Fini, I was thinking the same thing. I bet he can walk around that place with his eyes close.... James That's exactly what my father is like with his garage/shop. Lots of clutter, but it's a "by the numbers" operation.
  13. You might consider shipping them to him. I shipped an NAD unit, he did the repairs, then I picked it up after a few weeks. This would work if you are OK with not meeting him before giving over valuable gear. If you go this route, contact him first. You send it to his P.O. Box, then he picks up the package(s) at the local USPS. That way there are no packages sitting outside his "STEREO REPAIR" store front. More FYI: It's an interesting place.....meaning unkept in appearance. He must not be too concerned with how the place looks. But, he's repaired three receiver units and they've been performing wonderfully. If our schedules mesh, lunch or dinner would be great.
  14. Way to put that revived 730 to work for you. James Good memory, James. Bringing gear back to life is so satisfying. I wasn't sure if the volume would be loud enough for a dance floor, and almost brought a bigger amp for the HK's preouts. Shouldn't have doubted the 730 for a second. Yesterday I got a nice email from the bride, who left with her man early: "I seriously can't thank you enough. I've had pretty much every one of my cousins tell me about the awesome dance party we missed once Lyle started DJing. It was the highlight of the day for many of them - especially since it was the first time Rita's kids were all together for 2 years. It was the perfect, joyous reunion for their family. Thank you, thank you, thank you." Music is the answer!
  15. I have to add......walking outside and hearing those Klipsch pounding away was way cool.
  16. Echoes were minimal. Speakers were facing in about 45 degrees making an 'X' on the dance floor. Walking off the dance floor, the tunes quieted very well. Good for the non-dancers sitting.
  17. Here's a long shot of the barn. It was fun!
  18. How 'bout a temporary two channel system for a wedding reception. This was in a really long barn. No kidding, there were cows being milked the floor below us. After the Cork n' Bottle String Band finished somewhere around 10 pm I was on for a few hours, mostly playing wedding standards. Used Heresy Is and Forte IIs with a Harman Kardon 730 and a Rio Karma MP3 player. The Rio plays .flac lossless format and it sounded great.
  19. Looking at your Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH, it processes 7.1 and gives 130 watts to all 7 channels. Get another Klipsch pair to serve as back surrounds and you're good to go, IF you want to go 7.1.
  20. I'll let you know in about five to six weeks. Buying and moving into a larger house the end of June. HT Reference gear is in storage until then. Sadness.......
  21. Loved District 9. I think they did a great job balancing action, the police state feel, character developement (of the main guy), and politics. So many Sci-Fi movies end up contradicting the paradigms they begin with. This one stayed true to itself. Yes - the Oscars shouldn't be taken too seriously. I think The Hurt Locker got best picture because of its subject material. I liked the movie a lot, and was surprised at its awards. Comparing The Hurt Locker and Avatar is not fair to either movie. Too different.
  22. 2nd that. My 81s have the threaded inserts as described.
