  1. Hi Al, Is there a setting between the 5-2 and the 4-x? sometimes the 5-2 is too agressive and the 4-x too laid back. Thanks
  2. If the speakers are driven by an 8 ohm tap of a tube amp, should the 4-x be used as well?
  3. I can only agree with Elso on the k400 topic.I've been experimenting with the Altec 290E drivers and 311-60 horns for a day now,and the improvement is not so dramatic(I only prefer the 290e driver for it looks).I am planning to experiment with the 803b multicell next.
  4. The 311-60 and 803b are both 300hz horns, but I'll try to keep things simple and leave things the way they are. Thanks again Al Guy
  5. Thanks Al. I've bought the 311-60 horns this morning new in their original 30 year old boxes. The guy that sold them to me has some n.o.s 803b & 1003b multicells as well. I guess I'll be busy experimenting in the near future and I'll keep you posted. Will I get better results by changing the woofer cutoff point to 300hz ? Thanks
  6. Hi Al, Beautifull craftmanship. I have been using your ALK crossovor. What should I change in order to use a 4 ohm driver? I was thinking to change the lower cutting point to 300hz.Do I need a new crossover? Thanks
  7. Does anybody have any experience or know the 290D 4 ohm driver?
  8. Thanks John. I've found them real cheap and heard that they are less prone to ringing than the 511's. Would the multicell 803b be better? Guy
  9. Hello everyone, I was thinking of replacing k55v+metal horn on my 1982 Khorn with alk crossover to either altec 311-60 or 803b,300 hz horn and 290d 4 ohm driver. Do you guys have any experience with such setup? thanks
  10. Count me in also,if anyone of you guys happen to be in Tel-Aviv,you are invited to listen to my Khorn's with ALK crossovers mated to Marantz model 1's and 2's tube pre/power amps and Burmester cd player.
  11. Should the back cover the complete back side of the speaker or only the woofer, because only the bass section is folded?
  12. to my tastes,70's Harman Kardon twin power recievers(i.e 430,630) sound better than other recievers that I tried like Sansui 9090DB,sony etc.
  13. Thanks very much Tony & Macklipsch,I really apreciate your info. Regards Guy
  14. Hi everyone, I would like to build false corners for my Khorns because I have a heating radiator near one of the corners of my house which interrupt the placement of one of my speakers. Does anybody have plans or experience that can help? Thanks
  15. A vintage fisher 400cx or scott 130.
  16. I've been using the MARANTZ 7C reissue for almost three years now and can recommend it,it has all the features that you'll need,a sound to die for and you can find a used one for less than 2k $.
  17. Hi guys,I would like to replace my stock Khorns k77-m tweeters with EV t-350's.Does anyone know what is the impedance of the k77-m. Regards guy.
  18. I've had excellent results with marantz(model 2's & 8b),Leak (stereo 20 & tl-10's),Radford sta 15 with my Khorns.
  19. I've tried driving my Khorns with several expensive speaker cables i.e Van Den Hull revelation,Goertz AG1 as well as some sane ones i.e Sumiko OCOS,Audioquest midnight. Got the best result with the Sumiko OCOS.
  20. I've been using Theta's data basic 2 for more than five years,it is on a par(some times better) with the best transports money can buy. When first used,it gave huge improvement in soundstage depth, focus and it almost sounds analog when partnered to Apogee's da1000e-20 dac. Rest of my system:Khorn's with Alk x'over+Decca London ribbon/horn tweeters. Marantz 7 reissue preamp Marantz model 2's monoblocks for Khorn,Leak stereo 20 for Decca tweeters,Nakamichi car crossover(18db,6khz filter same as Khorn),Marantz 10 B tuner,Garrard 301+Sme 3012 & Thorens Td224 turntables,Nakamichi RX505 cassete deck, all connected to Tice Elite 3 AC filter.
  21. The preamp is nice looking but does'nt sound as nice. Its value is about 50 to 80$,you can use the case to build your own passive preamp. The stereo 20/passive preamp combo, blows away many expensive setups that I've listened to.
  22. Try to audition the excellent LEAK stereo 20.It sound wonderful and it is cheap. It also can be used with a passive preamp(input sensitivity 0.125V)which is highly recommended.
  23. Thank's for the info guys.I'm gonna try to locate a pair in ebay.
  24. C-J preamps matched better in my system than ARC.I've tried ARC's LS-1(shares the same line stage as SP-9),sounded thin and dry.The SP-8 sounded big, airy but was unrefined,as opposed to C-J's PV10 which was cleaner and much more refind.
