  1. Godspeed Paul. You and the people you are going to help will be in our prayers.
  2. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/34958965/ns/world_news-haiti_earthquake I believe its alot more than folks realize. Even the medical professionals end up needing help more than giving just due to the extreme conditions. Glad there are folks like you in the world.
  3. Russ, you are more than welcome to "believe" whatever you want. The fact of the matter is that yes, recorded music can be an art form unto itself, and does not have to sound like the a reference ~ especially if there isn't one, or if that was the artist's intentions. However, the art form also includes those artists and recording engineers/producers who are attemping to record the live event. I must take complete disagreement with you that "we are a long way from being able to produce this sound". Why do I say this? Because for better or worse, I have achieved this, at least to some degree. And others have also experienced the same thing. Have you ever been in a room where a simple recording was taking place and then while the master tape was being played back, the same musicians were still in the room, occassionally conversing with each other, only to become confused in that "Bill" wasn't actually saying anything, it was him talking in between tracks? Or how about a single soloist recording himself so that he can record (over-dub) a second track producing a duet with himself. While the musician was playing along (or so we thought) he made an awful mistake, we looked up and to our surprise he wasn't playing, he was sitting there smiling ~ it was the recording ~ he knew he had made a bad mistake at that part on the recording and had stopped playing but we all thought it was him. You also say that "I don't want the whole Mormon Tabernacle Choir in my music room either!" Well, that's not the point, actually. The objective (for me at least, with this type of recording) is to litterally (well, virtually of course) "take you there". You've heard the expression used for great high fidelity, "the speakers seem to disappear", right? Well, take it one step further. Make the room disappear! Get yourself transported to the concert, via the recording and playback system. If you think this is not possible, I say you are wrong, and I can bring forth numerous witnesses that support my view and have come to the same conclusions. Some of these situations have been posted on this Forum. Over the course of several decades, I have played music professionally. I have recorded in studios. I have recorded live-in-concert. I have made experimental recordings of live outdoors sounds combining everything from crickets chirping with rolling thunder moving in with planes, trains and traffic in the mix to measuring sound levels of lightening strikes outside compared to the sound level in my room. When your playback system can reproduce all these things, and do so in a way that can at least fool some of the people some of the time, then you are on your way to an accurate playback system. And if your system can achieve that, then after that, you're welcome to alter the sound however you like to make it "sound better" to you, and still say that you have an accurate playback system. Very enjoyable reading your thoughts. More folks get caught up in the actual hi-fi than the music and it shows everyday. I've got a high-end audil dealer near me that has himself too caught up in the hi-fi as well. But then again maybe its more about the wine than the music or is that more about the image than the wine.
  4. Let's not get too carried away. Theres a little team in Indiana that might have a thing or two to say about that. They could easily be undefeated 17-0 right now if not for a lay down of 2 games. Sure they have had their close calls but you can't get any closer than what the Saints have experienced. And Peyton will be the quarterback of quarterbacks when its all said and done. He already schools all the college superstars.
  5. Congrats and welcome. What an excellent choice. [Y] 20 years and counting and still can't get enough of them.
  6. I didn't see that beat down coming. Every media group in the nation had the Cowboys as the hottest team in the land. Holy smokes. Farve is in another level right now and so are the Vikings.
  7. I agree with you. The Cornwalls shine at lower volumes and make for a great jazz speaker. The Extended Heritage family (Chorus II, Forte II and Quartet) shine at higher volumes due to there tractrix mid and passive design and make for a great rock and roll speaker. Folks with Heritage speakers are missing the boat if they are using anything but tubes IMHO.
  8. Hey Bonzo, Chorus II's are the real deal. Congrats on joining the club. You can throw a variety of gear at them and they always seem to shine. 20 years running and still enjoying the sound of the Chorus II. Yeah that pro K-48 combined with the passive makes for one tight woofer.
  9. Well maybe the rf-7's but they probably wont be a night and day diffrerence from your rf-83's. The Cornwalls are completely ruled out IMHO with your criteria.
  10. A crown K2 can be called many things but one thing it can do is put an iron grip on a woofer. That's noted throughout the industry of both home and pro audio so its not just my opinion. It could not put a stop to a sloppy Cornwall. I don't believe its possible unless you change the design.
  11. It sounds fricken awesome. Fully restored and dead silent. The warm, rich sound works well with my hard to tame RF-7's. Awesome! [Y]
  12. Yeah I think the only sensible move for me, being a 20 year Chorus II veteran, would be the La Scalas plus a sub. The Cornwalls just couldn't get it done for me. The Cornwalls compared to the Chorus II's are really just a rumble box. I like the tighter and punchier bass. But I wonder if I could stand not having the tractrix mid?
  13. I thought the xti's were thought highly of due to their crossovers as opposed to the SQ of the amp section. Well that could be but how in the world could you justify keeping them if they sound bad? I'm just guessing, but maybe because they don't have fan's? Dennie LOL. Good try but no the XTI's do have fans.
  14. I thought the xti's were thought highly of due to their crossovers as opposed to the SQ of the amp section. Well that could be but how in the world could you justify keeping them if they sound bad?
  15. Hmm, well if you were just responding for the benefit of the OP I'm sure he heard you the first time. I think we are all pretty clear you dont like fans. Now back to our regular scheduled program. Alot of folks here on the Klipsch forum think highly of the crown xti. For the price they are definitely worth a try.
  16. Easy there stormin, I got it the first time, I still hear pretty good, no need to yell, ouch! It's just that I really hate fans, even quiet ones. My issue, not yours. Thanx, Russ LMAO. I gotcha Russ but your still doing it. Pro amps are not all equal. Some actually do not have fans. Mine doesn't have a fan. How can anyone hear a fan if there isn't one? Am I caught up in the "Twilight Zone" or what?
  17. Not really, they both have great specs.
  18. Let me rephrase. NOT ALL PRO AMPS HAVE FANS!
  19. Agreed but thats a generalization. Not all pro amps have fans.
  20. You can run into impedance problems with home audio amps as well. If you run a low impedance amp be it home or pro you have to be very careful with the preamp you choose. As far as the sound quality of a pro amps being inferior to home audio amps is really just someones opinion. I will agree there are some very nice home amplifiers that just sound fantastic and are worth their weight in gold. But in almost all cases you are going to PAY for that quality. Then there are your "run of the mill" home amps of "today" and "yesterday" that just dont even hold a candle to some of the nicer pro amps out there. It really is what you are trying to achieve and how much you want to spend. With a budget in mind dont let anyone tell you a pro amp can't sound damn good. It's just not true.
  21. That's treading the waters aweful close to one of these little fellows
