  1. ha, I'd say I have better luck in my wife condoning and extramarital relationship than moving this sub front and center under the tv.
  2. yes, would make it too high - i prefer to have the center of tv right at eye level, which it currently is. center channel is all that is in the tv console. it held everything at the last house, but it became cramped and hot which is why i moved everything remotely to the closet. it's also nice not having all of the lights and fans. the cat and dogs showed interest in the mouth of the sub when i first got it - i made sure to crank things up and scare away any further exploration missions.
  3. yes and no. the primary listening position is the couch, it's directly across from the tv. Room is too big/odd for my lens to get everything in at once. So the sub is halfway between primary and front stage, all the way to the right. yes, youth, that's an oAudio 500w plate amp. I wanted the longest cable for the sub to be only the +/- leads from the amp and i didn't want the amp itself to be easily viewable or accessed out in the main area. it's just ugly and clunky. so i have a shelf made out of MDF (all of the major components are on, or will be on, MDF) and then mounted the amp to it. It'll always be the bottom shelf, so there's no risk of reaching under to mess with something and getting shocked, cables tripped over, etc. yes, wall plates will be covering all sockets and switches by the time Adelaide is old enough to move around on her own. thanks for all the comments guys, i will surely be updating as I change and improve things. We're in this house for the long haul, so taking my time to do things as right as I can the first time.
  4. Yes, WHERE ARE THE PICS??? We all know you're a camera nerd, what's up???????? here you go guys. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/160559.aspx
  5. Yes, I'm too good for the group HT thread. I also know i tend to derail innocent threads from their intended purpose, so here's my own thread that I don't have to share or worry about rabbit-holing. It'll serve as my dumping grounds through the years as the room/system evolves. The house is about 31 years old and most certainly a work in progress. You'll notice I haven't finished putting chair or base or crown moulding up in some areas, nothing is on the walls, no drapes, etc. We plan to do big blackout drapes over the sliding glass door, and then the rest of the blinds and doors will be black to match the wainscoting. Likewise, the sub will be painted black, likely with a fine bed liner type substance. The audio rack will have sides put on and all painted black as well. Just takes time and money.. Everything is pretty much on hold while we wait for child. The room is sunken down by about 4 ft from the rest of the house and is sort of an L shape. The door in front of the sub goes to a large closet that I use for misc storage and the 42u component rack.
  6. lol Carl. I knew it was an Amy Unger post, of which she has few. so I just searched through her recent posts and found it
  7. i'm right there with you. Subxero - If this were your typical commercial sub that was walking all over the floor or rattling in place, I would totally agree with you and start with the source. In this particular instance, however, the source is absolutely dead where required. which is good, because i have a ton of EQ'ing, placement issues, component vibration problems, structural vibration problems, and room treatments to worry about instead.
  8. and just for reference - the cabinet vibrations of this sub are nearly non-existent. I don't have access to a scale big enough, but based on the lift test (or lack thereof) keep in mind that this sub is conservatively weighed in at 250lbs, and extremely well braced. At loud volumes/low frequencies, you feel the air being pushed out of the mouth, but the the box barely registers any sort activity. The closet door directly in front of the mouth, however, is about to rattle off its hinges - i currently have to drape a towl over it to close the gap in the door jam and the door knob still buzzes/rattles. Acoustical energy is surely getting into that closet and moving things around. these are the feet: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-772
  9. ha, mine's from 2007 and I have no plans to change it any time soon.
  10. thanks guys. I'm sort of thinking that i can put her on top and crank up some sub-30hz content to lull her to sleep. we'll see.
  11. sorry guys. been crazy busy each night when I get home and don't remember until there's just poor lighting available. Wife is having contractions regularly and starting to dilate, losing internal bits that indicate delivery will be within the next week or so. so i've been working overtime to get the nursery and house in shape for us to be gone for a few days, then back with ton o' visitors and no time or effort to make sure the house is picked up. I'll try and post some pics asap - tho it's very possible you'll be seeing posts/pictures of my daughter first.
  12. count me as tentatively in, with no opinion on dates or times. I'll either be able to make it, or not.
  13. heh, no real point. I would like to mention, however, that this is yet another speaker that you should not have let take away from you.
  14. you guys are single-handedly ruining the credibility of this thread..
  15. No. The "baby beard" was a ruse to get people off my back while I grew it out. I may trim it up a bit, but it's here to stay.
  16. If he were to shave it off Audyssey would have to recalibrate for the difference in sound for the room. LOL! Audyssey is a finnicky wench, and we shall not disturb her for now.
  17. just don't restart your career as a speaker builder. i wouldn't be able to afford you.. to Sean: Congrats!
  18. I guess you could buy one and quarter it. Put one piece under each leg. OR, you could bring the sub back and I can build you a smaller one. ha, not a chance. this sub blends far too well with those RF-5s I stole from you.
  19. subdude dimensions: 15"x15" cinema f-20 dimensions: 29.375" x 20" plus, my sub is already on 4 2.5" dia x 1"h rubber feet.
  20. now this is the kind of resourcefullness i was looking for. [H]
  21. oh ya, that's really me. and the beard has gotten longer since I snapped that. I started growing a beard when i found out wife was pregnant (sort of like playoff beards) last june and haven't trimmed since. I'm sure i'll clean it up a little after birth, but 've gotten quite attached to the thing and plan on keeping it long term.
  22. no sarcasm - why not return it and get the bdp-95? It has upgraded internals on the analog side with the best DAC available and is otherwise the same as the bdp-93 in functionality. It's $500 more than the bdp-93 and then you don't have to mess with anything internally.
