  1. Skipping ahead a little... I removed the loose veneer and replaced with the iron on preglued stuff I found at Lowes. I was a little afraid of this being a problem with using HeatLock glue for the final veneer... it worked out fine. Corners and edges are nice and sharp!
  2. I tried to use SystemThree wood epoxy but it had been sitting on the shelf for a few years and didn't work. I'm sure it would have worked well if not so old... I got Bondo for wood instead.
  3. hmmm... that HIII crossover looks nice but this is almost as if I am trying to put a square peg in a round hole. almost?!
  4. Somebody had hung these up by large hangers they had screwed in the back.
  5. To fit the HIII tweeter in the cabinet I had to enlarge the hole just a little. A dremel tool made quick work of it.
  6. I got some worn out 1986 Heresy cabinets for free + shipping from a forum member. Lots of dings, dents, and loose veneer... I have never done any veneer work so I was unsure how this would turn out. (Note the foam rubber that came as seen in the picture)
  7. +1 80 makes it fast work but it is very easy to go too far. I'd go the stripper route first... can be messy but that is a more controlled approach.
  8. My jaw is still on the floor!
  9. +1 on the respirator! Your brain and lungs will thank you! Good info here: http://www.finewoodworking.com/pages/w00112.asp
  10. It is amazing what a difference just a couple of inches makes!
  11. I still use the TX-2 I bought new. It is a fine tuner... no complaints.
  12. Looks like good ventilation too! Are you going to finish that off with some boiled linseed oil? Whoever made some of the original cabinets for Mark sure made some nice use of a dovetail jig! That is an awesome look! Yes, a little better than the popsicle sticks I'm afraid.
  13. can you believe all the SPAM they've been feeding us around here and I'm still hungry?!
  14. Oh, that's OK... I went ahead and sent it to them anyway... just in case they needed it. []
  15. I got a CD this way that was the wrong version... not the one I saw in the ad. Luckily this was of no consequence in my case and I didn't pursue. In another case, what I got I decided not to use. I was able to return with no problem. Amazon refunded my money soon after the seller reported that they had received my shipment. I was still out my shipping cost due to it not being the seller's fault. I think the most you should be out is the shipping. Doesn't help in this case but in the future I would take screen shots of the the ad and the invoice.
  16. Yes, that makes perfect sense. But not on your Archieved Server. Oh, OK... I see what you mean. It IS a good idea to keep my lossless stuff separate from the compressed junk. I don't care so much if my wife accidently deletes "her" .mp3 files. Yet another reason to maintain backups as well!
  17. Since this is an Audiophile forum and disk is cheap. Why would you want any music that has a lossy format? It has been compressed and is gone forever on your computer files. Wife's Ipod... just a little 2 GB version. She is happier the more I can fit on there. When she is happy, I am happy! [Y]
  18. I should add that there is an application called "Burrrn" that will read your .m3u file, decode your flac files, and burn a new CD all in one step. Pretty slick but you do have to wait just a little bit for it to convert the flac files before it burns the CD. I just don't have a reason to do this very often.
  19. I started tagging all my FLACs with album cover pictures now that I have a Squeezebox Touch. It is nice for my wife when she is wondering "what the heck is that you are listening to?!" No problem with wav files... if you have or create a .m3u or a .cue file you can easily convert an album to .flac, .mp3 or whatever you want. No need to re-rip. I wouldn't get rid of any format you already have. I wind up with multiple copies of the same music in all kinds of formats because I never delete anything (hardly). I just saw some 2 TB external hard drives for sale at $85 somewhere... make as many backups as you want at that price!
  20. You just never know what you are going to learn here! Viagra Jelly?! I think I'll stick to preserves on my toast, thanks. []
  21. You are what you are and you ain't what you ain't. So listen up buster listen up good. Stop wishin' for bad luck and knockin' on wood. Signed, Dear Abby (Thanks John Prine!)
  22. Someone else here did something similar but were unhappy with the results. I started using the center channel (derived) out to get a signal to a Sunfire sub. I had to dial it WAY back but it is fun with some music. ...as if the Cornwalls don't have enough bass already! Find a Scott 99 mono amp to power the Heresy and you will be happier, me thinks.
