  1. This thread cracks me up. I will chime in though, and say "YES", three identical towers "DO" sound more seamless than two towers and a dedicated center channel. For a brief period I had the opportunity to experiment with three RF-82's. Now, with that being said, my TV was relocated to the side, but watching the movie was not my intent. I played back scenes from Transformers 2, and DID notice a difference going from two RF-82s + RC-64 vs. three RF-82's. Although the RC-64 is an amazing speaker, having all three identical speakers with identical tweeter and speaker heights provided me with a more "fluid" sound stage. Currently I am running 2 RF-63's and a RC-64. They are VERY close, but the RC-64 does provide a different listening experience. Is it a bad thing? Not necessarily, I am happy with 2-Channel on the 63's and movie watching with the 64.
  2. Thank you everyone! Well, I had a fun-filled day of listening to various music and watching a couple of movies. The biggest difference between the 63's and the 82's in my mind is the presence. A much bigger speaker musically that sounds silky smooth and can go ridiculously loud! While listening in stereo, the bass is fluid and more "piercing. I say this because the 82's went just as deep with the bass, but lacked that "punch" the 63 drivers provide. Overall I am very satisfied, and I am happy I snagged the last pair a Canadian retailer had. I do feel my Onkyo powers them wonderfully in 2channel, but when switched to multi channel, I can feel a drop in overall power, and must account for this by increasing the volume. I will be in the market for a used / new amplifier, and Bill I am located in the Helena, Montana area. -Matt
  3. I know exactly how you feel when I got mine! Thank you everyone, I can't really make much comments right now because I just set them up, but once I run through a few films and hours of music I will comment. So far they seem "Very" nice and have a "Huge" presence both physically and musically. Nezff, I really like your setup, it commands respect and looks very impressive. How do you find the Emotiva XPA amp to work with you 63's?
  4. I'm very excited to give these puppies a full listen! Currently I'm only using my Onkyo to power these...so I may be in the market for a Amplifier, I see Emotiva has a nice lineup for an even nicer price.
  5. I woke up to a doorbell and a pleasant FedEx delivery driver.
  6. Thanks for the quick responses! I checked, and my room has a 15A breaker, so I should be OK. I am running all my gear through a APC power strip, so that should suffice. Much Appreciated! -Matt
  7. Hello Everyone, I have a quick question. What is the "normal" output limit of a regular wall outlet in homes? It is a newer place, so the wiring is "probably" up to spec. I am worried that I might flip the breaker because I am drawing too much power. Currently I have a Onkyo 807, Computer with a 750Watt Power Supply, Samsung LCD, and PS3 all attached to the same outlet. Would I be "ok" attaching more stuff to this outlet? Say for example a Emotiva XPA-3? Thanks, Matt
  8. Your setup looks amazing! I just ordered a pair of new RF-63's and they should be in sometime this week. I will post pictures when they arrive. I am also a fan of your TV stand, is that the Z-Line Venetian 3 in 1 Hybrid?
  9. I currently have a pair of RF-82's and a RC-64. You can tell the RC-64 is a much higher quality speaker and the bass response from it is much tighter than the 82's. However, when everything is all set and done, they sound great together. I plan to keep it this way until I upgrade my fronts to the RF-7 II's sometime after college.
  10. I went from an RC-62 to an RC-64 using an Onkyo TX-SR607. I actually saw a "decrease" in performance going from the 62 to the 64, the 64 sounded almost muffled and like it was not getting enough power. I upgraded to a Onkyo TX-NR807 and it made all the difference. The center channel came to life with all the power I had expected (even more). I am still even more power hungry and plan to add an Emotiva XPA-3 for all three of my fronts.
  11. No complaints so far. I haven't heard the new RF-82 II, but I am eagerly awaiting their arrival in Canada. If they sound very good theres a chance I might move my current RF-82's to surround duty and use the RF 82 II as new fronts.
  12. I have the RC-64. And although I have no experience building shelves, my only tip of advice would be to utilize the studs for support. It's a heavy beast.
  13. Thank you! I have a small tear in one of my RF-82 grills that needs to be repaired. This should do the trick.
  14. My father told me about a receiver in the late 70's early 80's that was so massive it had handles on the front. I guess this would be it, or something very similar. The myth is true!
  15. I second that. It sounds great to be honest. (But i'm still on a quest to get two RF-63's or RF-83's and move the 82's to surround duty
  16. I upgraded from RS-42's to RS-52's. There is a slight difference in sound between the two. However, is that enough to justify the price difference? Ultimately that is up to you and your ears. My recommendation is spend the money where it counts (in the front sound stage). Btw, thats a great price for either choice! -Matt
  17. Thanks for the responce. I found a 707 on Crutchfield for $650. That plus the XPA-3 brings me to $1250 which I can budget for. I figure I won't be upgrading the amp for a long time and the only thing that may be upgraded in the future is the AVR. All set and done, would the UMC-1 + XPA-5 be worth the extra money? Or are we comparing apples to apples? Thanks, Matt
  18. Sorry, but I'm still fairly 'noob', what do you mean by "seperates"? As in a seperate amp? But a budget for the AvR I'm hoping to score something around ~$600 or less. If something comes up that is really good and a bit more expensive I might be persuaded to buy it . Maybe theres some good clearance sales going on .
  19. Hello, I am looking at replacing my Onkyo TX-SR607. The main reason is due to the lack of Pre-outs. What would be a similar alternative to this reciever? I am looking at the TX-SR707, but if anyone has any superior suggestions please let me know! The 607 has all the featuers I need and sounds great to me, but due to being unable to hook up an external amp I have to replace it. I plan on using a Emotiva or similar 3 channel amp to drive my front speakers. Matt
  20. I originally had a RC-52 and was disappointed with the results. I upgraded to a RC-62 and was more satisfied. The RC-62 is in a different league than the RC-52. Besides the obvious differences (the bigger woofers), the sound is MUCH stronger, clearer, cleaner and crisp on the RC-62. However, I ended up returning it and ordering the RC-64 to fulfill my need of the best possible dialog for movies and gaming. -Matt
  21. The RSW-10D is a beast. I personally would not mind adding one to my setup . However, if your room setup would allow for two subs, the result "might" be superior. The only downfall is ensuring that they are correctly positioned so they do not negatively effect each other. -Kritzer
  22. Hello! I believe for a room of that size a pair of RF-63 will do fine. The reason the RF-63 are more expensive is besides visible differences (the addtional driver compared to the RF-62) it includes a different crossover and the drivers in the RF-63 are superior to those in the RF-62. The initial purchasing cost is steep, but in the long run I believe you will enjoy them. Matt
  23. Hello everyone! I am new to these forums, but they have been a great source of knowledge. Recently I just moved, and I accidently dented a woofer in one of my RF-82's. I haven't noticed any difference in sound quality, but it is a real eye sore. I live in Canada (yes, we love Klipsch up here too) and am wondering about replacement cost for one of these woofers and where I might find them. Thanks for your time, Matt
