  1. I can't comment on home theater, but I can tell you that I am a big horn fan. Way back in the 70s I bought a horn at Radio Shack to replace a cone mi- driver that I blew in a speaker. Once I heard the horn I was sold for life. Now I only buy Klipsch because they believe in the horns as much as I do. If someone show me a system without a horn, I just just yawn because I know its probably going to sound like crap - does Bose ring a bell?
  2. This forum is great - I was just wondering if I might attract more lightning if I put this thing in the attic say verses the basement near a window. If may chance of burning down the house is the same either way it's going in the attic. I don't care if my stereo blows up as long as I don't. I just don't want to stick something up there that might make Mr. Lightning like me more than my neighbor. Very interesting posts. I've enjoy ever one's knowledge and feedback. Thanks.
  3. Can one hang an HD FM attenna in an attic and expect it to work okay? Does it need to be grounded if it is inside an attic like it does when its mounted outside on the roof?
  4. Just received the cables and they worked like a charm. The amp is up and running. Sweet.
  5. I was going to check them out until I saw the price. OMGosh! I could see $15 or maybe even $20, but $100 for a set of wires? I know this is all about audiophile bliss, but I guess I just remain a little less blissful at this point.
  6. Just do the bad one first and run a couple of tests on the bottom. You never know, you might find a product that produces a pefect match and then you wont have to refinish the good one. If not, it doesn't take too long to sand them down. I'm sure they will look great when your done and its more fun that way, knowing you made something better.
  7. Buy this Tuba and you may have to retuckpoint those brick walls. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/132333.aspx
  8. I've seen them go as high at $900. $400 models will likely be Chorus Is. Quality Chorus IIs usually go $600 to $800 in most cases.
  9. Do some tests. Try a rub on polyurathane or a laquer. Don't put any oil or finish restrore products on them are you will have a nice pair of OOs. I have some birch LSs that I just keep naked. If I put anything other than a poly on them they start to turn golden in color. I think that is what you are trying to avoid as well.
  10. Perfect. I ordered two and should have them this week. Thanks again.
  11. Thanks Kouack. I think you just solved my problem. Once I get the pre-amp line signal into this thing with the cables you suggested, I should be good to go. And I think Don is right about the other inputs. I bet they support transformers. How that all works, I have no idea. I appreciate eveyone's help on this. You folks help make this the best forum on the web.
  12. It came from my brother's house. He had a new whole house system installed and this old unit was discarded to the basement. This is the way I found it when he asked me if I wanted it. Otherwise, it was probably headed for the dumpster. The installers just diked all the old stuff, so there you go. I seem to wind up with a bunch of stuff in this kind of condition, but hey at least the price was right []
  13. Thanks, I found that too before I came here, but oddly enough the pictures in the manual don't match the back of this thing at all. The P2250 in the manaul has Phono jacks. The one I have is a P2250C? I can figure out what the big round inputs are? I guess I could use the XLR inputs, but they are 3 pin and the pre-outs on my existing reciever are RCAs (2 pin). I don;t want to blow something up especially my reciever or La Scalas.
  14. Don't know about the Fortes, but I have Chorus IIs and they rock. I prefer them over Cornwalls because they are more slender and tall verses just plain big and they sound about the same. It seems to me the Forte is just a smaller version on the Chorus so I'm not sure you are going to experience a big change in sound? Probably just more bass, but I'm just speculating.
  15. Anyone ever seen an amp with connectors like this on the back? It's a Yamaha P2250C. I was hoping to use it for 2 channel audio, but there are no RCAs, etc. Maybe it's a Home Theater amp? Does anyone have any suggestions on how I might run this thing with a pre-amp signal and then on to the speaks or am I out of luck?
  16. Dude, that thing is insane. My wife would kill me if I came home with it, but I bet it sounds awsome!! Nice job!
  17. Personally, I think you need more than one pair to get the "best" sound. I'm using a pair of La Scalas, a pair of Chorus IIs, and a sub-woofer. If I turn any of them off I am not completely happy with the sound. If I turn them all on people just stand there and drop their jaws. Most typical quote - "I feel like I am sitting in the 1st row at a rock concert". Frankly, I couldn't agree more. All said, the La Scalas (or Klipschorns, or Belles) are a MUST, the Chorus IIs can be replaced by Cornwalls, or even Heresys. You'll need a sub to round out the bottom (Chorus II and Cornwall have great bass, but not sub-woofer bass.) Do all this and I guarantee your speaker set-up will rock the house. Now as far as the amp/receiver driving them. Well, that's another topic all together.
  18. I'm not familair with the "shelf" you are describing. I've never seen anything like this. I guess you mean a baffle between the woofer and the bass ports? I've seen a CW with a shelf. Then again. I've never owned a pair. I've just seen a lot of pictures.
  19. Budman - I'd took your advice and it worked out great. I have some generic stain that I had to use to match the rest of the top but the penny stain is gone and the speak looks good as new. Thanks for giving me the confidence to just jump right in with the sandpaper. There's something special about wood veneer speakers. You can't beat them in my opinion.
  20. That's when you know you are having a bad day. At least it's on the bottom of the speakers and not the top. Live and learn.
  21. I recently purchased a used pair of Chorus speakers that have a stain on the top that was clearly caused by a penny. They are oiled oak. I have no idea how the coin caused the stain. Maybe someone with a chemistry background might know? Does anyone know how I might go about removing this stain or am I looking a sanding down the top and restaining to match the sides?
  22. True, you can have the woofers reconed for about $100 verses $130 new. You can order new diaphragms for your tweets from Crites and install them yourself. It all depends on how much work you want to do. For instance, you will have to ship your existing woofs to have them reconed or you can just order new ones and not hassle with it. Same with all the rest. Bob will ship the parts or rebuild them for you. The choice is up to you.
  23. Jimmy, that's a tough deal and shame on the guy who sold them to you without telling you the condition they were really in. That is very un-Klipsch like. I've found most people are honest about what they are selling, but as always it's buyer beware. Also, if something is too good to be true, it probably is. There are lots of folks selling individual drivers and crossovers on E-bay. You should also check with Bob Crites. He will sell you quality materials at a fair price. You can call Klipsch direct and get new drivers direct from the factory. All in all buying new componets won't break the bank and luckily we aren't talking thousands lost here. Chaulk it up to a learning experience and move on. It's never a good feeling to get ripped off, but now it's time to put that behind you and work towards rebuilding your Cornwalls into something you can enjoy for years to come.
  24. I do it just the opposite, buy every model you can get your hands on and then mix and match until you find a sound you like. Take the others and spread them around the house.
  25. I'm not sure the Belles sound better, but they sure look better. All the Heritage speakers are sweet, but the Belles are the sweetest because they are the hardest to find.
