  1. Just a thought, find a pair of older cornwalls, brace the motor board with a very hard piece of wood (make sure they are made out of wood first) and replace the wiring with some very high quality silver internal wire. replace the caps and you will hear great guitar music with the right amps......these mods were discussed on this board many moons ago, if you can find them..... Just remember something, it is all about synergy ,your space, your preferences, and your equipment......... and your ears are your own!!!!
  2. Thanks Bob, you are a voice of truths, in a murky world, and Happy Birthday to you, I am sure you have made many peoples birhtdays something to behold...
  3. I haven't had a chance to listen, but my limited knowledge with turntables and set up restricts my ability to make an accurate determination. I have experienced some very slight inner groove distortion, maybe some of it will be reduced? I have read that the new cart I am using, has this defect. I only have one album that I have listened to enough to make some sort of comparison, but I will try and let you know.
  4. Here they are installed and leveled. This seems to work quite well and took very little time.
  5. Insert the two rubber pieces together.
  6. Fill with sand leaving some space.
  7. These are lawn furniture protective feet which have been cut, painted and drilled with a bolt inserted that matches the TT's original feet bolts.
  8. Here is what formed the base of the feet, which are 1.5" Kwik Caps.
  9. Borrowed this idea from a gentleman over at AK who had the same problem with is TT feet that I had with mine. Nice easy project that seems to work pretty well. The first picture is of the old TT feet the previous owner had tried to repair.
  10. Nice vehicle Wuzzer wait till the weather gets bad. You will be passing people in the ditch (or pulling them out) like the weather never changed. I have had two jeeps, and they never break except for some minor electrical issues. The one I ran almost out of oil and it ran fine for another 50,000 miles before I donated it, the same vehicle blew a radiator hose in the middle of a very warm VA day and it got so hot it pinned the temp gauge and it just shutdown with a long slow moan. I poured few gallons of cold water in it, (thought for sure I would crack the block) started right up and I drove it to the repair shop. My fun vehicle right now is a 2 door 4.0 liter stick shift cherokee that will almost go anywhere. I have even jumped it on a few occasions. Great purchase Wuzzer have lots of fun when she is not looking!!!!
  11. Nice pictures!!!! Never knew pelicans inhabited northern climes, thanks for the lesson!!!!!!
  12. I just picked up a yamaha px-3 and a new cartridge and I couldn't be happier. I ABed it against my 2 cd players in one of my systems and there wasn't much of a contest, 6 out of the 7 the vinyl was better. They are trending down right now on the bay, when I sarted looking for one they were in the 600.00 to 800.00 range. Now they are between 250.00 and 400.00. Schu certainly has some words of wisdom though, I am already looking for a px-1.
  13. I dont know if this info helps, but my Dad has fairly expensive hearing aids that I think cost around 2500 to 3500 a piece. Where he gets them, on the walls, they have hundreds of pictures of their clients, which include many Presidents, astronauts, foreign dignitaries, pro athletes, musicians even Mother Teresa. One of my favorite pictures is of, Pete Towsend and Roger Daltry, simply because they look so pissed off. I assume that they are about the best in the world. Every time I turn one of my systems on, he takes it out. I always thought that Klipsch should manufacture such things.
  14. DeanG, I am praying for you, and as I say once again try some JUICE!!!!! Get a juicer, work it out with all the organic veggies you can handle? Start growing some wheat grass, and in the interim buy some! Until then looooook forward too your next crop!!!!!! Not only does it taste interesting???? One shot of it is the = of pounds of veggies + it will make you high as a kite and give you more energy than you can believe!!!! If you need some recipes? I have some pretty good ones, 2 take the bite out of all of that green!!!!
  15. Welcome to this great place! Depending on the condition of these units? You also may want to consider sanding and filling and repainting them in a black finish to your liking. It might be easier. Also, consider turning them into Cornscalas whilst at it. There is a thread of a nice pair of medium to h- gloss cornscalas that a member made in europe, that you can find, that look very nice.....
  16. I sent you one earlier and have not received yours.....
  17. No worries Tom, thanks, it is a little dicey..... and with craigs, I have heard of some weird things happening and this deal may be to good to be true. I just didnt want to buy a box of rocks! Thanks again, when I first joined this forum you gave me some sage advice!!!!
  18. Thanks for the response Tom. The reason is that it is a craigsfind, and I would feel more comfortable giving the money for transfer to a trusted forum member rather than just sending the gentleman a check, hoping he would send the speakers. Plus they could be inspected more closely.
  19. I know this is a long shot, was wondering if someone is close by to Gales Ferry? I would like to buy a pair of raw speakers, that are in boxes and have them dropped off at Fed Ex? I will pay you for your time and gas. They weight about 35 pounds a piece and I would give you my fed ex number. Thanks
  20. Thanks for the responses guys!!!! The Shure cartridge has some great acclaim and costs very little, but the replacement stylus might sound good as well. This is a hard decision..........Thanks again!!!! If anyone has anymore to add about dealing with this piece, it would be great!!!! Even with the needle bent, I can tell there is something there!
  21. I just recently picked up a Yamaha PX-3 turntable off my local craigslist. I have been looking for a decent linear tracking table for some time, and when this one came up for 150 I thought I would give it a try. Cosmetically it is in near perfect shape, except for one scratch on the back of the unit near the power cord. The bad news is that, the needle is slightly bent, and the button to move the tone arm to the left doesnt work. To engage the tonearm you have to press the 17 button and the arm moves all the way to the left and then you can move the arm to the right and then engage. Is it possible to bend the needle back? or just replace the needle and is this all that difficult? Or should I buy a more modern cartridge and what would be a suitable replacement? It is fitted with a Yamaha MC 705. If a cartridge is neccesary? I would prefer to spend less than 300, for a new one, or a decent used one. Thanks, any help or general recommendations will be appreciated!!!!!!
  22. DeanG, so sorry to hear this news.....Dont be afraid to think outside the box on this one, just like you do in audio!!!! I know a few people who have beaten this amongst other things with diet changes and juicing...... Including very late stage pancreatic cancer..... Good luck with your journey, use all your skills, get as much info as possible, and trust yourself and your body...... once again thanks!!! and good luck!!!!!!!!!
  23. Keep sellin Wuzzer!! Beautiful TV!!! Thanks again for the sa-xr and all your help!!!! I upgraded to the 55, the dual amp is much better!!!! Thanks again!!!!
  24. I kind of like this idea. It may be tricky adhering the velcro to the top of the 1003b horns due to the dimpled exterior surface, but I think I could make it work. What about wedge material? It would be easiest to determine the correct angle and make it out of wood, but should I be concerned with decoupling the two horns? Maybe some sorbethane or other elastomer between the wedge and tweeter? After you configure the size and the shape of the wood, you could do the super ball trick? Cut in half and screw them in the bottom of your board with dywall screws, flat side down and then velcro. Paint and you should be good to go. You can get what is called "industrial strength" Velcro, comes in a 4ft X 2in roll it is very strong, make sure it is the original Velcro brand. I am sure it would stick to your Altecs.
  25. How about a wedge and some heavy duty velcro? It might make it easier if you post some pictures. I have used this type of velcro, and it has substantial holding power.
