  1. I only have Video Essentials and I'm happy with it. Don't have anything to compare it to... 2. Just so you know, Colin is comparing the 803's to the Chorus II's because I asked him to check out the speakers I'm buying this weekend (in his neck of the woods). The seller is replacing them with the 803's he just purchased from Sound Advice. Thanks a lot Colin and btw...great review! Mike
  3. eq, At the bottom of your profile include the following (just paste it in): {url=http://members.home.net/stangbanger/HomeTheater/home_theater_page.htm]My Home Theater Page Except replace the beginning "{" with "<". That should do it...[P>Mike

  5. Wes, Can't wait to get these as they look immaculate from the photos. BTW, it's myram with the Ram truck. I have to borrow my sister/s Lexus SUV to pick up my speakers. At present, I only have the Vette but it could be worse... Mike
  6. Thanks, Doug...I'm pretty excited about it! As you know, I can't afford them but I think it's too good of a deal to pass up. Colin gave them a big thumbs up on looks and sound, and that's all I needed to hear. Will take some pictures of the setup after I get them hooked up... Mike
  7. myram (hey, I finally get it..."My Ram" truck), I spoke with him before the auction ended and his reserve was $420. I guess that's a pretty good price for one of these things but it's still more than I'm willing to pay. BTW, I'm picking up a pair of mint Chorus II's (to go with my Chorus I's) in Oiled Oak on Sunday for $500, so I'm hoping to find an Academy somewhere for about half that... Mike
  8. How's this, Tom! Mike This message has been edited by Mike Lindsey on 10-18-2001 at 12:03 PM
  9. Jeff, Thanks for clearing that up. So all Cornwall I's (pre-'85) that had the vertical horns were referred to as Cornwall II's. I believe Tom Adams' Cornwalls had the vertical horns as well. Can someone explain the differences with the horizontal and verticals horns? Which is preferred (I'm assuming the vertical are rarer)? Mike
  10. Yeah...I can see this thread popping to the top every once in a while just to see the pictures again. Very nice indeed... I don't know if you know it, Wes, but I'm heading to West Palm Beach this Sunday to pick up a pair of Chorus II's (in Oiled Oak) from 1990 that look like they are in great shape. Colin is heading over tonight (he lives in West Palm) to look them over and give them a listen. If he likes what he sees/hears then I will make the drive down to pick them up. I will then use them as my mains and move the black Chorus's to the rear for 5.1 music. Will let you know if I get them. If I do, hey...I'll only be like 5 pairs of speakers behind you... Mike
  11. I have a setup very similar to yours and found that by moving them as close to my wall units as possible (my wall unit is 11' wide), 18" off the walls/corners, flush with my TV/Center channel and toed-in to the sweet spot netted the best results for me. I agree with the "moving around" part...especially with the sub. Like you, I would try the corner and the front wall and see what sounds the best in your room. I have mine on the left side-wall, just to the right of the fireplace, and a little to the left and out in front of my left Chorus (see picture). I basically had to do this bacause of space but it does sound outstanding. I'm sure when you are done fiddling around with it, it will sound great. Let us know what you think of the SVS as well... Mike
  12. Gil, Forgot about this post...I enjoy listening to Soundtracks as well. When listening to "Dances with Wolves", it's like I'm watching the movie because I know exactly where I am as each song is playing. The fact that the music is exquisite doesn't hurt either... Mike
  13. Wes, You're the 2nd person I have seen (Chris Robinson is the other) who has Cornwall II's prior to 1985 when they started making them. His are from 1968 and yours are from 1971...how can that be? Mike
  14. Doug, I see you didn't get them. Looks like you didn't make a bid either...was anything wrong with them, other than the finish? Mike
  15. I'm lurking in the background...
  16. Jim, Not real familiar with the KLF-10's but are the horns metal or plastic? My squawkers on the Chorus' are plastic and I didn't want to try this until I received some feedback from others who have atttempted this mod with plastic horns. Mike
  17. Chris, this is off-topic but did you pick up your K-horns yet? Do you also have to deliver the Cornwalls you sold on Ebay at the same time? Loved the look of your Cornwalls btw... Mike
  18. Bob, All you have to do is mention "Cornwall" around here and they'll come running. Your setup is very similar to mine except I have the Chorus's up front (Cornwalls baby brother) and I like my system quite a bit. Supposedly, the Academy is the center channel that matches up with the Cornwall II's (and Chorus's) and from what I understand, the Heresy's are the perfect match for the Cornwalls. There are a number of people that are running a Heresy Center as well as Heresy surrounds with their Cornwalls. As for your rear channel, I don't think you can go wrong with another pair of RS-3's (that's what I will have also for movies) but a single C-7 mounted on the back wall will do the trick as well (probably even better). Of course, this is all just my opinion and there are far more knowledgable people out here than I. If you have pictures of your setup (and from the looks of your website you certainly have the know how to take them :-) please share them with us... Mike Edit again: Oops...my bad! I see you said RC-3 and not RS-3 for your rear channel. I think the RC-3 would make an excellent rear channel, as would the C-7. This message has been edited by Mike Lindsey on 10-16-2001 at 02:42 PM
  19. Bob, First off...welcome to the Forum. I believe your Cornwalls were made in 1979. From 1962 to 1983, Klipsch used a letter in the 3rd character of their SN to indicate year. 1962 had the letter "A", 1963 had the letter "B", and so on all the way to 1983 which had the letter "Y" (letters "O", "Q" and "V" were excluded). As for them being consecutive, I wouldn't worry about it. It looks like they were made in the same day (433/439)... Mike Edit: By the way, C-BB means Cornwall-Black Birch. And they are definitely Cornwall I's. For more info on your speakers. Click on Products and then select Classic. Scroll down to the Cornwall I's and II's and check out the specifications which are located on the left hand side of the page. Hope this helps... ------------------ Family Room ----------- Hitachi 43UWX10B HDTV (16:9) Denon AVR-4800 Acurus A200X3 Panasonic DVD-RP91K (Progressive Scan & DVD-Audio) Dual CS-5000 Turntable w/Shure V15V-MR DBX 3bx Series III Range Expander Klipsch Chorus (mains - Acurus Amp) Klipsch KLF-C7 (center - Acurus Amp) Klipsch Epic CF-2's (rears) Klipsch RS-3's (rear surrounds) SVS 20-39CS Sub w/Samson S700 Amp Monster HTS-3500 Line Conditioner Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100 Digital Cable box Monster M-500 Component Video cables Monster Datalink 100 Digital Coaxial cables Radio Shack Gold Series & AR for all other audio interconnects Bedroom ------- Mitsubishi 31" TV Yamaha M-4 Amp Yamaha C-4 Preamp Yamaha T-7 Tuner Teac DVD Player Dual CS-721 Turntable w/B&O MMC2 Looking for a pair of Cherry or Mahogany Heresy's This message has been edited by Mike Lindsey on 10-16-2001 at 12:20 PM
  20. Steve, Try bringing them out just 6 more inches and you should notice a big difference with your soundstage. I think by doing so, you will also have them pretty even with the academy, which seems to be even with the TV (where it should be). Again, just mho... Mike
  21. Very nice setup, Steve! Also enjoyed the pages on your fish tank and Ram truck. Guys can't be satisfied with just one hobby (my other two are golf and Corvettes)! I'll bet your system sounds nice. Would like to hear it someday (girlfriend is from Rockland and still has family there)... Mike Edit: Steve, after looking at the pictures one more time, I was wondering if you tried bringing out the Quartet's about 12-18" off the wall? When I did this with my Chorus's it made a big difference. Just a thought... This message has been edited by Mike Lindsey on 10-16-2001 at 07:40 AM
  22. Gil brings up a good point. Growing up in the 60's and 70's brought about a huge change in music. I can remember we had a console stereo w/TV in it and thought it was the greatest! My Mom really liked the Platters and the Beach Boys whereas my Dad listened to a lot of Opera and Classical. He also happened to love the Moody Blues, Simon and Garfunkel, CSN&Y and Neil Diamond. I am a huge fan of all 4 due to my Dad's listening habits and am very thankful. My musical tastes have changed over the years and I now lean towards folk rock and jazz. But there will always be a soft spot for the music that was playing in our house when I was growing up. I can remember hanging out at the Malt Shop in the early 70's and hearing Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky", Vanity Fair's "Hitching a Ride", Hamilton, Joe, Frank and Reynold's "Don't Pull your Love" and Don Mclean's "American Pie". Those songs started me on my way to musical bliss. The first time I heard Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water", I knew Rock and Roll was going to be in my blood forever. When Grand Funk Railroad did "We're an American Band", I knew this was going to be an obsession for me and it has lasted the better part of 30 years. I think I played BTO's "Not Fragile" every day after school for an entire year! To me, music stirs the soul! And well recorded music is just icing on the cake. Like most of you, I can sit in front of my big old horns (to paraphrase Colin) and listen all day to the music I love. I can get goosebumps from hearing stuff thet really moves me (Soundtrack to Dances with Wolves by John Barry) and feel really blessed to be able to get lost inside it. I think I would feel really empty inside if music were not a part of my life. I'm sure many of you feel the same way... Long live Klipsch, Mike
  23. Colin is quite the wordsmith ...I love to read his posts! Keep it up Colin!!
