  1. Guys, Very interesting with the volume settings for each speaker. I use the Video Essentials DVD and when playing the tones for each channel, it asks that you set the SPL meter to 70 db and dial the speakers in at 75 db. The Denon volume is set to 0 db. My settings are FL -11, FR -11, C -7, RL -2, RR -2, SW -9. That is with the Chorus' up front, C-7 center, RS-3's in the rear and the SVS 20-39CS sub. When watching movies or listening to music DVD's, if the volume is anywhere from -5 to zero -- it's pretty damn loud...around 90 to 100 db. It's possible, after looking at some of your settings, I might be doing something wrong. BTW, before getting the Chorus', the CF-2's were set to -5, so there's a pretty big difference with efficiency between the two speakers... Mike
  2. Wes, Thanks for the explanation. I am using the AC remote and am tying up my last switched outlet on the receiver with it's use. I may end up doing the same as you. On a side note, I would like to say that this board has been so helpful to me that words alone cannot explain my gratitude. I have never been associated with a nicer, knowlegable bunch of people and am really grateful. This has been a complete learning experience for me and I have all of you to thank for it. Thanks for helping out a lost soul with a Klipsch passion as big as your hearts... Mike
  3. That a boy! We knew you had it in you...
  4. Doug, Keep us posted with the results... Mike
  5. Wes, What is a 12V trigger? I am using the Denon 4800 to turn on/off my HTS-3500 with the 3500's supplied 110V remote cord... Mike
  6. avman, I went ahead and did that but after reading your post you may have me confused with TTK. I do not have a pmax just a Monster HTS-3500, which is now plugged directly into the wall outlet. All my A/V gear is now plugged inito the 3500 with a couple pieces plugged into the 4800's switched outlets. I'm using the remote feature of the 3500 so that it now powers on when I turn on the 4800... Thanks again for everybody's help, Mike
  7. Well said, Chris! And I have to agree with you. I used to spend a little time on some of the other A/V forums but this one just outclasses them all...and it's not even close! I don't even bother with the others anymore... Mike
  8. Doug and boa, Thanks for all your help on this matter. I don't have any loud buzzes that might equate to a ground problem. I am running a Monster F-Pin cable from the Wall into the HTS-3500 and then another Monster F-Pin cable from there to the Cable Box. I don't have a problem on that end. I also just got rid of the surge suppressor and am running the power cord from the 3500 directly to the wall outlet. I had to run the power cords from the DVD and the cable box to the 4800 switched outlets as well. Now everything comes on when I power up the receiver. I'm not used to the Standby red button being on the 4800, and the 3 lights that remain lit on the 3500 but I can put up with that... Mike
  9. Carl, Do you have pictures and why are you selling? Mike
  10. avman, The HTS-3500 is plugged into a Premiere Surge Master II (compliments of Best Buy). Is this no good? If not, I will go ahead and plug the 3500 directly into the wall... Thanks, Mike
  11. Thanks, Keith! If you would, check out my post on DD2's Ground Hum thread over in General. I may have a problem there as well. Also, I noticed my Acurus gets very hot after it's been running a while. A lot hotter than my S700 or my 4800. I think I may need to put a fan back there to keep it cool. Know where I can find one that will mount to a shelf and is very quiet? You seem to know where to get all the accessories... Thanks, Mike
  12. Doug, I too have noticed a slight crackling noise (hum?) coming out of my speakers when there is nothing playing, but the source is turned on to something (DVD, CBL, etc). If I have the receiver volume set to anything (-60 to 20) it makes the noise. If I turn the volume to where the 3 dash lines appear instead of a digital number (one click above -60), it goes away. I noticed this long before I hooked up the Acurus. Is this the hum you speak of? It's not very noticeable until you walk up to the speakers but it's there. Do I have a ground problem also? Thanks, Mike
  13. Thanks, Keith...I had forgotten about that! I will plug the DVD player into the receiver and will be able to turn everything on with a push of a button from the remote... Mike quote: Originally posted by talktoKeith: You guys are confusing me and I've had mine hooked up like this for years! Mike,if you need to gain additional outlets, assuming all do not exceed the rating for your protector, you could plug low voltage components such as DVD player or CD player into your AV receiver. They will not turn on of course until you turn on the receiver(if they're switched). If you knew that please excuse.I'm confused remember! Wonder how Adam would suggest achieving surge protection for amps if these protectors were in fact limiting power to the amp.I don't know if I could stand any more power :^). Keith
  14. Kevin, Don't have the Heresy's but found your information very useful. Was wondering where I might find a test CD such as that? I would like to do the same for my Chorus'... Thanks, Mike
  15. Boa, I'm running the Dual and the DBX in the other 2 switched outlets and you are right, they do turn on and off when the receiver is turned on and off. I just didn't wait long enough for the receiver to power the switched and timed outlets down (btw, very weird to hear the Acurus whistle about 15-20 seconds after it powers down). That just leaves my TV and DVD player - I will have to turn these off with their remotes. Of course the HTS-3500 remains on as well. Is it OK for that piece to be on all the time? Thanks again, Mike
  16. Thanks, Boa! That seems to work, but I have some older equipment that doesn't have Remotes and I would have to turn them on and off manually. I wish the 3500 came with about 4 more switched outlets... Mike
  17. Since I just got my Acurus, I will redo mine with what each piece retailed for and what I paid... 18. JTS Maybe we can caravan together? I see you're not too far away...maybe we can check out one another's system one day. I'm always looking for new ideas and am always interested in hearing new equipment... 19. quote: Originally posted by boa12: i would imagine u have the acurus plugged into the high current switched/timed outlet on the 3500. That's correct...It's plugged into the Main Amp plug and the S700 is plugged into the Surround Amp Plug. Both of these plugs are Timed and are ultra high current audio filters. quote: u could leave your wall surge switched on & use the remote switching of the 3500 to turn on/off your acurus from the electrical cue from the denon. right now i'm using the ac cord from the switched outlet of my receiver. may try the dc connection. either way don't have to get up to manually turn the sys including the acurus on/off. I'm not real sure if I can plug my 3500 into the wall outlet now that it sits about 6 ft high on a rack. I think I'm stuck with this configuration for awhile. As it stands right now I haven't had any electrical problems or glitches with this setup, but you never know. Would you mind explaining the differences between AC and DC power? Thanks again Boa, Mike
  20. I just got my A200X3 in the mail yesterday and got a chance to hook it up last night (Thanks, Doug...went with the AR 1 meter audio cables). Like Doug, I have a Denon receiver (4800) that was powering my front soundstage (Chorus', C-7). I ended up having to move a few things around and had to buy a few more interconnects (GRRRR!) but finally got it all together around 9:00. When I recalibrated using the Video Essentials DVD, I was surprised I did not have to make any adjustments to either of the 3 channels. I demo'd the new amp with my re-mastered Al Dimeola CD (Splendido Hotel) and the Eagles HFO DVD in DTS. Like Doug, the bass was the biggest difference I heard (my ears aren't that good either), especially at louder volumes. Much fuller and punchier. I could tell that this amp wasn't even straining with the volume at +4db (about 100db in my living room). It seems to make gobs of clean power and I look forward to using it for many years to come. One last thing...I have all of my equipment plugged into my HTS-3500 (TV, Cable, audio equipment) and have that plugged into a pretty good surge-suppressor. The surge-suppressor is plugged into a grounded outlet in the wall. I leave all of my equipment turned on and just turn on the surge suppressor when I want to play my system. When I am done, I turn off the suppressor. Is this how I want to do it or should I have the 3500 plugged directly into the wall? If I do that, I can control the On/Off features from the 4800 due to the remote cable that runs from the 3500 to the 4800. BTW, I do not get a ground hum with my Acurus in this configuration... 21. I have Goodwins bookmarked and I check them out from time to time... Mike
  22. Hey Dean...thanks for the support! First time I've ever been verbally attacked on a Forum... Mike
  23. I have to agree with you, Ray. It's become a real slugfest lately. Even I was attacked. Mike
  24. Thanks, guys! Will let you know how mine turns out... Mike
  25. If I were you, I would highly consider the Mondial Acurus A200x5 amp. It is hand made in America and retails for $2000. You can currently purchase one from Ubid for under $1000 (I just bought my A200x3 from there for $589). I have heard nothing but great things about this amp and hey, Klipsch owns them! Here is the link on the specs... http://www.klipsch.com/products/mondialdetail.asp?frame=y&id=302&line=mondial Mike Edit: To get to the specs, click on Specifications on the left sidebar... ------------------ Family Room ----------- Hitachi 43UWX10B HDTV (16:9) Denon AVR-4800 Panasonic DVD-RP91K (Progressive Scan & DVD-Audio) Dual CS-5000 Turntable w/Shure V15V-MR DBX 3bx Series III Range Expander Klipsch Chorus (mains) Klipsch KLF-C7 (center) Klipsch Epic CF-2's (rears) Klipsch RS-3's (rear surrounds) SVS 20-39CS Sub w/Samson S700 Amp Monster HTS-3500 Line Conditioner Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100 Digital Cable box Monster M-500 Component Video cables Monster Datalink 100 Digital Coaxial cables Radio Shack Gold Series for all other audio interconnects Bedroom ------- Mitsubishi 31" TV Yamaha M-4 Amp Yamaha C-4 Preamp Yamaha T-7 Tuner Teac DVD Player Dual CS-721 Turntable w/B&O MMC2 Looking for a pair of Heresy's This message has been edited by Mike Lindsey on 09-17-2001 at 09:20 AM
