  1. Thanks Doug! I talked with Stephanie at Crouze-Kimzey and she said they don't have a mounting plate that is big enough to fit the 5 9/16" eyelits of the RS-3's. Is there anybody out there that uses their hardware that has hooked up the RS-3? If so, how did you do it? If that doesn't work, I could build a pair of 2' x 1' shelves for the speakers to sit on. It might not look as nice but would that work? Mike
  2. Doug, That last sentence says it all. I too was considering the internet for my Klipsch Center and Surrounds. My local Sound Advice was hundreds of dollars more for the KLF-C7 center and RS-3 surrounds. I had spent a bit of time in this Sound Advice getting familiar with my salesman as well as demoing the speakers with a Denon 4800 (which I purchased recently). I really wanted that manufacturers warranty but didn't want to spend the additional cash to get it. I also wanted to establish a relationship with my salesman at Sound Advice since he spent a lot of time with me and I hadn't spent one red cent yet. As it turned out, he came within $30 of the internet prices and I went ahead and bought from him. What's nice about this situation is it gives me a place where I feel comfortable buying and it's only 1 mile away from my house...plus I get the manufacturer's warranty. I think if you get familiar with your Klipsch dealer, and they know your serious, they may cut you a deal and get close to the internet prices... Mike
  3. I saw some earlier threads on Omnimount and decided to look into them for mounting my RS-3's on my back wall. I looked up the RS-3 on their website and they recommend the RST-53 (9-15 lbs) for the mount, as the RS-3's weigh 12 lbs each. Here are the specs on the RST-53 (pan down) http://www.omnimount.com/umk.tpl?cart=3198270362261503 . The mounting plate on the RST-53 is only 3 3/8" wide and I need one that is 5 9/16" for the RS-3. Has anyone ever used the Omnimount hardware when hooking up to an RS-3? I would surely like to know how you did it? The other concern I have is the wiring with that mount. You need to have a hole in the mounting plate for the banana plugs to fit through. It doesn't look like the RST-53 allows for that. Any help from my Klipsch brothers and sisters would be greatly appreciated... Mike
  4. Thanks, Jeff! I am going to be using the Omni-Mount bracket which should have them about 2" from the wall. On the KLF-C7, you can remove the insert plugs on the back of the post and insert a banana plug. Can you do the same on these? Thanks again, Mike
  5. I just ordered some RS-3's to go with my CF-2's and KLF-C7. I was wondering how you guys were wiring those? Will a dual banana plug work? 5-way binding post or spades? Thanks, Mike
  6. I bought my KLF-C7, RS-3's and Denon 4800 from them. They are not authorized but personally back the manufacturer's warranty. They will find an authorized service repairman in your area and send you to them at their expense. If there is no one in your area, they have you ship the product back to them (at your expense) where they have an authorized service repairman work on it. They then ship it back to you, at their expense. They are good people and I wouldn't think twice about doing business with them. Mike
  7. Hey, I have Passion Fruit by Michael Franks...excellent recording. If anyone really likes soothing (and interesteing) guitar, try listening to Michael Hedges. I saw him about 1 month before he died - unbeleivable performer! His 1st two albums, Breakfast in the Field (1981) and Aerial Boundaries (1985), are outstanding! You won't be disappointed... Mike
  8. Thanks, guys! I went ahead and bought some banana plugs today and will see how they plug in to my C7 tomorrow morning... Mike
  9. Thanks, easyeyes! Where might I find these connectors? I have about 70 feet of 12g Monster wire, so I thought I might cut to length and put new ends on... Mike
  10. I just bought a new KLF-C7 to go with my CF-2's. I won't be hooking it up until I get in my new house, late next month. I was curious what type of speaker connector's everybody is using for this speaker? It doesn't look like a dual banana plug would work unless it was angled (do they make those?). It only looks like the wire pins will work on this speaker since the cavity in back isn't large enough. Can someone please tell me what they are using? Thanks in advance... Mike
  11. Chris, I have a good friend that gruaduated from Bucknell in 73 or 74. He was a musician and stuck around that area for a few years after that (playing in a local band). He plays piano, keyboards and bass. His name is Robert (Wally) Pease...do you know him? Thought I'd give it a shot... Mike
  12. I have the CF-2's as well (you don't see too many people that do) and just purchased a KLF-C7 for mine. I think the CF-2's have a sensitivity of 98 dB SPL @ 1 Watt/Meter whereas th KLF-C7 comes in at 99 dB SPL @ 1 Watt/Meter. The crossover on the CF-2's are 2200 Hz and the C7 is 2000 HZ. Bear in mind, I haven't hooked this up as of yet since I still don't have my Denon 4800 receiver. I can't tell you how it sounds together but have been told by others that it's a nice combination. I hope this helps... Mike
  13. Allen, Absolutely gorgeous! Can you explain to me the differences between the tube amp/preamp versus the conventional amps? I have never understood how so little power can make so much noise... Thanks, Mike
  14. Keith, Thanks for the response. I might consider the Mondials now that I'm looking at amps in that price range. I'm also thinking about an older Denon separate (POA 2400) to drive my fronts and have the 4800 pick up the center and the 4 surrounds. The POA 2400 is 200 w/ch and is an Optical Class A amp, whatever that means. Does that mean it's somewhere between Class A and Class B? Any other ideas for stereo mode? Thanks again, Mike
  15. I am about ready to purchase a Denon 4800 to go with my Epic CF-2's/KLF-C7/RS-3 speakers. I currently have a Yamaha M-4 Amp, C-4 Preamp and T-7 tuner that I have owned since 1982. Now that I am branching out into HT (I have been a 2-channel guy for a long time), I feel that the 4800 is a good fit for me...musically and financially. I would have to say that I listen to music just as much (if not more) as I watch movies. Knowing this, how do you all feel about the Outlaw 750 amp (165 w/5 ch) powering the fronts, center and SVS 20-39CS Sub... and then letting the Denon power the 4 surrounds (I'll get another pair for the rear)? Is this overkill? Will this sound better in 2-channel mode versus the Denon? Would I be better off getting the 5800 for a few hundred dollars more? What would you do, if you were me? I know that's a lot of questions, but after reading a number of threads on this board, I know you guys are up to the task. BTW, my listening room is 3-sided, 15' x 15' x 17' with the 4th side open to the kitchen and the hallway. The ceilings are 10' in the family room and then 15' in the kitchen... Thanks for your answers in advance, Mike This message has been edited by Mike Lindsey on 05-23-2001 at 01:34 PM
  16. Thanks, Tyranny! Do you have CF-2's as well? As for the Denon, I haven't ordered it yet. I don't move into my new house until the end of next month, so I have some time to decide what I want. I'm leaning towards the 4800 but may go with Outlaw separates as well. Mike
  17. This is a good thread and has answered some questions I was wondering about. I have some Epic CF-2's and a KLF-C7 Center with a Denon 4800 on the way. I have decided on the RS-3's as well (possibly the RS-7's when I get some feedback on them) but only have one side wall with the Kitchen on the other side of my family room. I was thinking of putting the RS-3's on some stands to the L and R of my couch but don't think that would look right. Especially if they need to be 6 feet in the air. I guess one option would be to hang them from the ceiling. The other option would be to place them on the back wall, like you guys are doing with your back surrounds. Of course, these would be my main surrounds. If I chose this option, and mounted them 6 feet up the wall, would I get the desired surround effects out of them. If you were me, what would you do? Thanks in advance... Mike
  18. Will the RS-7 be a better match for the Epics (CF-2) as well? I was going to order RS-3's for my surrounds but have 6 weeks until I move into my new house. Should I wait for the RS-7's? Thanks in advance... Mike
  19. Thanks, Kerry! I guess I'll soon find out... Mike
  20. Is anybody running an Epic/C-7 combination? If not, do you know if it will match up with my CF-2's or is there something else I should be looking at? Thanks in advance... Mike
  21. I saw that as well AFTER I ordered the C7 (which should be here any day now). I was wondering if there are any other Epic users out there with the C7 and if it matches up with the fronts? Thanks, Mike
  22. Hi, As you can tell, I am a Newbie. I bought a pair of CF-2's back in '95 and like them quite a lot. I am in the process of building a new HT and wanted to make sure the KLF-C7 is the Center channel to get. I am also going to get the RS-3's in addition to the Denon 4800 to drive them. As for subs, I've decided to go with the SVS 20-39PC. My question is...will the KLF-C7 match up with my CF-2's? Thanks for any future replies... Mike
