  1. This is great news Dean! So glad to hear you are cancer free! When you get your strength back don't be a stranger. Mike
  2. Beyma CP-25 There are tap settings that allow you to tone down the mids, which you will need to do with the BMS driver/V-Trac. Mike
  3. Cool! I spent a fair bit of time there TDY. Bought a lot of records from Tops Pop Shop (or something like that) in Kaiserslautern. Mike
  4. I have a modified khorn that is a 3-way with the BMS 4592ND mid driver mated to Greg's V-Trac horn and ALK Universal, and it sounds amazing! As for attenuation I have the mids toned down 11db I think. ALK Universals make it pretty easy to attenuate. Mike
  5. Like Kaiser I was in Germany as an AF airman during the late 70's (78 - 82), and that is where I purchased my first system. I saved for about 6 months before buying a Sansui G8000 (I miss that receiver so much!), Dual CS-721 TT w/Shure V15 III cartridge and a beautiful pair of Infiniti Column II speakers (which were $1400 back in 1978). That system rocked my world for a number of years and I will always remember all of the pleasure it gave me. A few years later I added a DBX 3bx, SAE 5000 NR unit and a Nakamichi tape deck. All I have left is the DBX and SAE units, and the Dual TT. Kaiser, out of curiosity, where were you stationed? I was in the 609th, just outside Hanover. Mike
  6. I'm listening. [] I definitely plan on a get-together this summer. waaz_up, I was in your shoes 11 years ago. I was 42 at the time, same job for 20 years, same townhouse for 14 years, still single and not dating. I wasn't a big fan of change then, but knew I needed to do something. My family (4 sisters and my mom) started to move to central Florida in the early 90's and were all relocated by the late 90's. I would come down every winter over the holidays, and couldn't believe that I could play golf in shorts when there was a foot of snow on the ground where I lived (northern VA). When I visited over the winter of 2000 I made up my mind to just do it. I haven't looked back since. I have a new career, new house, and a new girlfriend. Life has never been better, even though the economy has been unstable. I play golf and drive my Corvette all year round. In VA, the Vette would be under a cover from November to March. Life is good my friend. I say just do it! Mike
  7. MC just sounds better than MM imho. Sure it costs a few more bucks, and you have to get a step-up transformer, but it's well worth it in the long run. Mike
  8. Dean, hang in there buddy! My ex gf battled stage 4 breast cancer and beat it. Stay positive, and surround yourself with family and friends that do likewise. The power of God and positive thought can do amazing things. You and your family will be in my prayers. Mike
  9. My builder did mine with a 20" width. I'll get some pics of it next weekend. Mike
  10. Very cool, Rod! I too have a THTLP that I'm currently using in my bedroom system with a pair of CornScalas mated to a Scott 299D. I'm powering the THT (mine has a Eminence Lab 15 in it) with a Danley SA1000. Let me just say that combination can go mighty low and deep. :-) Mike
  11. I have owned Epic CF-2's, Heresy's (3 pairs), Chorus, Chorus II's and Cornwall II's, and loved them all. I had my Chorus for about 4 years and they were my favorite pair of the bunch, but when I purchased La Scala's I knew that horn loaded bass was what I preferred. I now have modified Khorns and they sound simply amazing with the right material. Having said that, I'm sure there will be jubs in my future when the right time comes along. I don't think the journey ever ends... [] Mike
  12. What in the world are you talking about? After Foomac posted his last pic he locked the individual post, but the lock appeared for the entire thread. Now that we are past that post the thread is no longer locked. I didn't know you could lock an individual post. Here, I'll lock this one and if nobody else posts to the thread it will appear locked. It will be a learning experience for everyone. :-) Mike
  13. Just curious, but why did the "Let's see your Klipsch speakers" thread get locked? Mike
  14. I bought a G-8000 new in 1978, and I wish I still had it. That thing was a real beast, and had a very nice phono section in it. The 33000 takes it a couple of steps further, but I think 7 large is way out of line. They are pretty rare though and that one looks pretty nice. Mike
  15. Fender, That's exactly what I have in mine, and it is definitely the cat's meow! Mine was restored by Jean Nantais, who is famous for the Lenco thread on Audiogon. The plinth is a work of art. I am looking at the Lyra Helicon as we speak, and wondering if it would sound better than my Zu modified DL-103R.They are both very good matches for the SME IV tonarm. I know you had this cart on your Scout previously. Mike
  16. Lou, I live right behind the Bojangles off of Mitchell Hammock. Anytime you wanna stop by just let me know. Would love to have you over for a listen. Mike
  17. Bill, I couldn't agree with you more. There have been a lot of new Central Florida members over the last few years (Youthman, Rennoc, jhoak, Clermontcop, LHF63 and yourself) and I have only met a couple of you. I would like to have a get-together this summer and have you all out to the house for a listening and bs session. I would also like to have the opportunity to listen to everyone elses systems. I will post something in the next couple of months and setup a date where everyone can attend. I'll provide the food and the libations. [] Mike
  18. I have been on this board for approximately 11 years now, and it never ceases to amaze me about the quality of people we have on here. I had met Jeff Hoak (jhoak) a couple of years ago when he bought an Academy I had for sale. He drove to my house and hung around for an hour or so, and we listened to a little bit of vinyl and chatted for a few. He ended up buying the Academy and taking it home with him. Over the next couple of years I read a lot of his posts and realized just how knowledgable he is, and how willing he is to help others and share that knowledge, as many on this board do. Well, I recently purchased a very well maintained Otari MX5050-B2HD that I couldn't get to work, and asked if he had some time to come over and help me with it. He mentioned he had a number of R2R's but not an Otari, but could come over this past weekend. He called me the night before he was coming and said he did some research on the Otari and knew it had XLR inputs, but with a twist. The 2 pin is the hot pin as opposed to the 3 pin on standard XLR cables. So what does he do? He makes me 4 RCA to XLR cables with the 2 pin wired hot. Are you kidding me? [] Now I already had some RCA to XLR adaptors and wasn't sure if that was the problem or not, but he made these just in case. So he comes out on Saturday afternoon. Little did I know he was a 90 minute drive away from me. For some reason I thought he lived closer to Orlando. He comes inside and we pull my rack away from the wall. The first thing he does is he shows me I wasn't locking the reels to the nabs correctly. This took all of 5 seconds. [:$] He then proceeded to take all of the Dbx gear out of the equation and just wire the deck directly to the BBX. After playing around a bit with a few buttons we finally had noise coming out of the deck! [] He then proceeded to hook the tape loop up on the BBX to the Dbx 400XG, and showed me how to play/record the deck utilizing the Dbx 224X-DS. Lastly he showed me how to clean the heads and the pinch rollers, and showed me how to demagnetize the heads, and did all of this in about 30 minutes total. I just wanted to give a big public shout out to Jeff, and let him know how much I appreciated his coming to my house to help me with my problem, and to share a little of his knowledge in the process. It is people like Jeff that make me realize how great a community the Klipsch Forum is. I have met some wonderful friends here over the years and know I have just added one more. Thanks again, Jeff! I owe you a cold one whenever I get out to your place. Mike
  19. Bruce, Have you tried either of these 2 tapes? I've been buying Maxell 35-180 tapes as that is what my machine is biased for. Mike
  20. Phil's a great guy and responds very fast to emails. He made the wood side panels for my Otari MX-5050 and did a very nice job. They also sell quite a few R2R parts for just about all makes and models. I'll use them in the future if I have issues with my deck. Mike
  21. Stereophile has never owned Audiogon and vice versa. No accounting for taste :-) John Atkinson Editor, Stereophile John, so nice of you to drop in. [] I'm a long time subscriber to the mag. Mike
  22. I can only add the first SET amp I ever heard was a Bottlehead 2A3 that Colin brought over, and I was very unimpressed with it when mated to my La Scala's. I much preferred my NOSValves modded Scott 299. Having said that, I later purchased a Korneff 45 (from the builder) which only had about 1.5w of power, and I was very impressed with it. I ended up sticking with my NOSValve VRD's though, mostly due to the extra oomph, but also because they are incredible amps in their own right. Mike
  23. I got my D2 (not D2v) used for about $3k about a year ago. I see the prices are a little above that at the moment, but I'm sure there is some wiggle room. Like Carl said, the upsampling of normal DVD's on this player will blow you away. Very close to Blu-Ray standards. Plus the ARC made a huge difference in my room. I only use mine for movies, dvd-a and multi-ch sacd use, and it sounds awfully good to my ears. Ymmv... Mike
