  1. Wow, small world I guess. I work at Princess Auto's home office in Winnipeg. I buy those "fans" you refer to for our stores across Canada to re-sell. I'd recommend for the coolness effect getting the LED fan we now carry. If you're going to put up with a small noise why not have it look cool too. Side note FYI: Kinda cool, we use a machine called an Anemometer that looks not unlike a fan itself to measure CFM's of our fans. It's true, a large 4-3/4" fan at a lower speed moves more air then a small 3-1/4" fan at a high speed. The number of blades seems to make a small difference in noise (physically louder) but none really as far as measurable output is concerned. We had a fan some time ago originally from an army tank (not sure for what though) that had an output of 19,000L/min. and a note in the box that warned of the vacuum pressure of the fan being able to pull small animals into it, like birds and smaller dogs.... sheeesh! There's some intense cooling for you.
  2. Actually, it IS radon gas... if you do some hunting on the subject this is one of the possible trouble signs. Copper does turn color from oxygen yes... but it also does this from radon gasses collecting in the basement... Trust me.. I did some research....
  3. The theory behind wire types is simply this: Stranded = more flexible and less resistant to breaking if moved a fair bit BUT.... not good for in wall use as it can be damaged by moist conditions more easily than solid conductor wire ect... Solid = less flexible and less resistant to movement breakage but is more commonly used in walls/behind vapor barriers as it handles moisture better (does not tarnish as much ie: greenish color) Oh, and another thing, have a look at your copper pipes in your basement, are they somewhat greenish/bluish in color in some spots? That is a sign of radon gasses in your basement.... just FYI
  4. I have a quick picture of my HT layout. The red circle is the sub that has to stay. There are two other locations for my second sub and they are in blue. Which location is better.... blue #1 (by TV) or blue #2 (by rear speaker)? The room is 24 X 14 X 8, the front red sub is a 12" down firing and the second sub is a 10" downfiring. The room is in the basement. Both blue locations are the outside wall. Any thoughts would be appreciated as I am running the wire for them shortly and cannot listen to them till after the drywall is up or I won't get an accurate sound anyhow.
  5. GREAT!!! more stuff to think about now... hehehe. I am going to look into the projector arena and see what I can dig up. Thanks for the info so far guys.
  6. I have been eyeing two TV's now. The Sony 51" wide screen HDTV and the Sony 53" 4X3 aspect HDTV. I will be watching TV 80% and movies 20%. I have a sat. system but it's not HDTV. It has a 16 X 9 mode but I don't know what that'll look like.. will it be stretched? It's a 4700 model dish network reciever. Echostar I believe as you Americans call it. Not planning to buy an HDTV set top box any time soon but will be getting a progressive scan DVD player. Any opinions would really be appreciated.
  7. Actually, that is kinda right and kinda wrong. In walls actually get alot of bass due to their mount style. I have two sets of 6-1/2's wall mounted upstairs and the bass is way overpowering the mids and highs. It is just for background sound so high quality audio up there was not a priority. I would seriously stay away from wall mounts in a HT. Go for the boxes and be done with it. If you do decide to go in wall make sure you have the internal wall sections the same internal volume as mine are not and the bass is noticably different in the bigger cavaties then the smaller ones.
  8. Lets see some cool avatars out there. Lets make it a sorta contest with no prizes. HeHeHe.
  9. actually, they make an 8 ohm version for use in active subs. I am referring to the 1030's and 1230's as we now carry both of them at my work. I was wondering if anyone else carries them. ------------------ Hey, don't write yourself off yet. It's only in your head, you feel left out or looked down on. Just try your best, try everything you can. And don't you worry what they tell themselves when your away.
  10. Does anyone know where to find MAX Pentivent speaker dealers as I want to use them as subs in my Klippy system? Do you guys know where the re sellers are located? ------------------ Hey, don't write yourself off yet. It's only in your head, you feel left out or looked down on. 11. Too correct, it is known in these parts as "weeping tile" and attaches to a sump pit, sorry to confuse you. I now have pics in the framing stages on the main floor I will post to get more input than one can give about a hole in the dirt. Thanks to all who care enought to answer this babble. ------------------ Hey, don't write yourself off yet. It's only in your head, you feel left out or looked down on. 13. Thats what i thought. I was sure that this set up was not quite right. The mails were about the only thing sounding somewhat like I was used to but even they lacked the bass authority I was told the Reference line had. There was no sub in the system cause it was broken I'm guessing. The quints were used as they are very popular sellers at this place and i agree, nice but no where near the quality of the reference line. Like putting a Mustang engine it a Porsche 911 Turbo. I am going to hunt down a second place to listen, thanks bob for helping me get my groove on again, hehehe. ------------------ Hey, don't write yourself off yet. 14. Am I missing something here? I went to the local Klipsch dealer on the weekend to listen to a set of RF3's, paired with quintets for surround and a RC3 for a center. It was all powered by a Marantz reciever and some Marantz CD player that I don't know the models of. I was not overly impressed by this set up, it was the first time I heard anything by Klipsch besides my Promedias. How can I be missing the magic? Any ideas why my dreams of a full onslaught of Klipsch in my HT setup doesn't seem as desirable? I'm all depressed now ------------------ Hey, don't write yourself off yet. 15. The actual theater area is approx 16 X 21 and I have attached a pic of it for refrence ------------------ Don't count on me, to let you know when..... Don't count on me, I'll do it again. Don't count on me, it's the point you're missing. Don't count on me, cause I'm not listening.
  16. I have almost those same polks, except that they have only two mids and one tweet. That woofer is actually not a woofer as I learned at a young age, it's a passive radiator. They were my parents speakers attached to Luxman stuff. I took out the woofer one day while I was young and it was a cheap hunk of foam, I was so dissapointed, but who could argue with the sound quality. I still have them buried in the basement somewhere. ------------------ Don't count on me, to let you know when..... Don't count on me, I'll do it again. 17. It's kind of neat to see them dig. You can easily see how deep the frost line goes. It's about 4-1/2 to 5 feet below the surface. It was very cold that day, -25 celcius or -13 farenheit. No noe has commented on my big black speaker cable on the groud in one of the pics.... whats with that ------------------ Don't count on me, to let you know when..... 18. The concrete is cast in place and only fills to the top of the plywood. The floor joists are only toenailed at that point, and have to hold the tarps and insulating blankets in place. Reason: because of the extreme cold there is a large propane heater that has to go inside for about 3 days to cure the concrete. I was kind of suprised to at the way they did it but piles are poured under to support the teleposts that are holding the weight of the floor joists and the laminated beam is already in place. If you look close you can see two of the three teleposts already there, they look funny due to the angle but they are actually 8 ft. apart. ------------------ Don't count on me, to let you know when..... 19. Try laying out your HT setup in this layout. It is however all I can think about. Any ideas so far?? ------------------ Don't count on me, to let you know when..... 20. If u get that funky grid with the little x on it i bet it's as simple as you forgot to upload the pic, u have to put it where u want it in fp and then upload the htm for it AS WELL as the pic itself, i bet it's that simple of a mistake. ------------------ Don't count on me, to let you know when..... 21. Well, I am looking at the page(s) listed above and came across something that made me laff a bit. It's the Australian guy making a statement, here it is.... " A very small amount of ProMedia 4.1 units have been reported to be defective. First reports were 25% but now numbers are down to as low as 15 out of 50 units which is indeed a very small amount. " Well, if I do my math correctly 15 is 30% of 50 so the problem is even worse than "First reports" as he coined it. TeeHee, one must do a great deal of research to make a good review, I suggest this fellow look at the whole article before posting. Just my two cents. I'm a bit disheartened that my Pro's now 8 months old have died out on me but I have faith that Klipsch will hook me up as far as warranty is concerned. I am dissapointed however that I may have to pay shipping. My RCA dvd player died and through the warranty RCA paid shipping for me and the dvd player was 6 months old. I don't like paying to fix something that is under warranty that I paid 500 and change for here in Canada. Kind of crappy really. Maybe they can do something for me to alleviate that. ------------------ Don't count on me, to let you know when..... Don't count on me, I'll do it again. 22. Where would I have been if I walked one mile south, then one mile east, then one mile north and actually end up in the spot I started in? Yay Canada, taking the gold in both mens and womens hockey, at least we still kick arse in some things!!!!! ------------------ Don't count on me, to let you know when..... Don't count on me, I'll do it again. Don't count on me, it's the point you're missing. Don't count on me, cause I'm not listening.
