  1. Thanks Dan that was great. Keep flying America. Best regards Moray James.
  2. Is the horn in a CF-2 the same size as the horn in a CF-3? Thanks Moray James.
  3. Welcome to the forum. There is probably not much difference can you hear any difference? What are the dates on these? Which is newer and which is older? You can make a rounded pair pointy with a little model clay and listen for any difference. Let us know. Nice collection. Sure is a funny thing about Klipsch I just want to buy more, never had this happen with any other speakers. I must have caught a bug on the forum. Soon I will be one of the sick guys here myself. They always tell you to check your mail for viruses but I never thought it would happen to me. Best regards Moray James.
  4. So what diaphragm is that? Looks very nice. Please tell the story. Best regards Moray James.
  5. Speakerfritz: I have been searching since I posted and see that the HIP rolls at 100Hz so a sub would be manditory. I think Dave's (gothover) refex design looks like a good compromize but that loses the easy portability of the Heresy. The thought of the extra efficiency is very nice though if combined with a sub. But I think If I were to go that route I would opt for a different woofer with higher efficiency that would still get me into the low 60's as far as bottom end range goes. More money so I have to put that idea on the shelf for now. I would like to know if the metal trim used on the HIP is available anywhere? It looks great and serves a valuable purpose for a party speaker which will get hauled around. Thanks for any leads regarding the metal trim. Best regards Moray James.
  6. You can look to have the speakers shiped freight by sea but the catch is you will need to use serious packing and put them on a skid. This also brings up other issues into play, handeling and time in transit. The longer a unit is in transit the higher the risk of damage, the more handeling there is the higher the risk of damage .For items like this your best options are Fed Ex, Bax Global and UPS. A plywood crate for each speaker is your best bet but I think that you could put two Heresy's into one crate and strap it to a skid. Of course you coud double box in cardboard with the outter layer being a tripple wall cardboard and that should be good but the size starts to get you. You might suggest what I have to others over seas and that is to ship the parts and have a box locally made. A decent cabinet maker can make you a couple of beautiful Heresy cabinets with your choice of veneer for less than the shipping cost. Why ship the bulk when all you need is the guts? Best regards Moray James.
  7. Does anybody have info on this speaker? Is it a standard Heresy woofer? Cabinet volume and port size? Response graphs and crossover? I have a set of 85 Heresy which I would like to add the metal trim to, a vent and crossover adjustments might be worth while too. Thanks for any info on this. Best regards Moray James.
  8. Here are the measurements that Bob Crites made on the three diaphragm materials. The phenolic is very smooth but it does roll. This might be an advantage if you have ole harsh digital equipment buat as you can see you are missing a lot of information with the phenolic diaphragm which the Ti picks up. Hope that this helps. By the way the CT125 has very smooth extension out to 20K, I have a pair for my Heresy but have not had the chance to install them. One thing that I can say for the ti diaphragms is that they are much more dynamic and transient response is improved as they are so much lighter than the phenolic diaphragms. You can play at far higher levels with the Ti diaphragms and you do not ntice any strain or stress very relaxing to listen to. I can't imagine switching back but some folks do prefer the phenolics but most seem to like the Ti when they hear them. They do take some time to burn in but I found the improvement immediate and not subtle. Best regards Moray James.
  9. Adam: welcome to the forum it's a fine bunch of people with a tremendous amount of experience. As to you question about the Titanium tweeter diaphragms. The Ti diaphragms are flat and extend out to 20 K no problem. The phenolics are smooth but start to roll around 12K smoothly and are well down at 20K. While I agree that you are likely to hear a bigger difference with new caps as a first off mod I have to disagree with the order that most folks have suggested. I think it makes more sense to upgrade the tweeter diaphragm so you have flat response. Then if you hear things which sound too bright you know the issue is with components outside of the speaker. Also with new tweeter diaphragms installed you will be better able to hear the differences in the different capacitors that you might install. The Ti diaphragms are very smooth open and relaxed. They provide a very high level of detail. I would recommend that you switich to both Ti tweeters and mid range diaphragms then upgrade your crossovers. Though I have yet to install them into my own speakers (but it's in the works) I believe that large gage air core inductors will also buy you a significant improvement in your sound. Suggested inductor gage size min 14 better, 12 better again, 10 more so and best 8 gage. If you take a look at Audiokarma you will find in the Klipsch section a large thread by Set12 of this forum on his Forte crossover saga well worth the read. Hope this is of some help. Best regards Moray James.
  10. You can either go to diy audio and search as there is another thread on the 219 or you can send a mail to Stew who is a great guy and will I am sure give you all the information you will need. Yes it is made with cheap parts but I can assure you that it works like a charm.Best regards Moray James.
  11. More power is always safer and better than less. I ran my Forte ll with an AUD ll Mk ll which was rebuilt and modified by John Wright of Museatex to have a mosfet output stage instead of the stock transistor output. The AUD ll is a stunning amplifier with ultra low distortion, lower than most folks have ever heard. The Sansui should sound fantastic on your La Scalla's. Keep us posted as to your findings. Best regards Moray James.
  12. Can you explain how this is so? did you change them out so they match? The flare rate on a Chorus mid horn is exponential while the flare rate on a Chorus ll is a Tractrix contour. Best regards Moray James.
  13. Take a walk through your surround processor options. It's for when people don't have or want to use a centre channel. With properly set up stereo speakers it can sound excellent. Best regards Moray James.
  14. just a question but have you tried fantom centre? Would solve looking for a matching centre channel. Best regards Moray James.
  15. Exactly like that and it's almost the same color I had in mind which was inspired by an old pair od LaScalla's I saw here on the forum somewhere. That hardware is perfect. So where do I find this? Please tell me its available. Thanks Moray James.
  16. I was thinking stainless would look great then you don't have to paint and it can always be buffed up to look new. I you decise to make some and you would consider making 16 more please let me know. I have not seen anything that will work. Best regards Moray James
  17. I am looking for some metal corners and metal edge trim. I want to refinish an old set of Heresy cabinets for use as party speakers and would like metal edge trim and corners which will fit on a Heresy and not foul either the grill or the back panel. Does anyone here know where I can find what I am looking for? Thanks for the help. Best regards Moray James.
  18. Mark: I sent you a PM. Best regards Moray James.
  19. Stew's arm can be mounted on a hockey puck which you simply set on the plint so you would have zero impact on your table which I fully understand is a concern. The whole thing can be built in a few hours start to finish and only cost a few dollars in parts. This arm will run along side anything in the 2-3K range with no shame. You can build a fast nasty cheap ugly one just to check it out and if you like it make one as fine and fancy as your imagination wants. DIY does not get much better than that. I will let you consider this and leave it at that. Best regards Moray James. PS: the coffee creamer powder is really a fine damping compound especially if you are considering a long arm. Stew was giving away prototype kits asking only that folks build them up and post comments on the design. You could ask Stew if he has any free ones left.
  20. I have to disagree with your comment. I know Stew Nelless who designed the 219 arm and have listened to his system. Stew has a SME arm I believe it is the 312 which had a new retail of over $3K. The arm is in excellent condition and properly set up. Stew's simple but properly designed unipovit is an equal to the SME and in some ways I think sounds a little better others may feel it is not quite as good but it is very comparable. I think that the investment in a 219 is really insignificant and the only thing that you have to loose is the fact that so many arms that you have lusted over but could not afford are just not as good as they want you to believe they are. Why not build a 219 design and then bring home some expensive arms and see what you can find that betters it and see what that costs. If a unipivot is not your cup of tea there is a good thread at diy audio on a mechanical linear tracking arm which can be built for next to nothing also. Or if you prefer something a little different you can build a Well Tempered Arm for peanuts also. Here's a little trade trick I learned for damping tone arm tubes, this comes from competition arrow shaft makers. That's to use powder coffee creamer to load the arm tube. You can have a laugh and tell your friends it gives the music a creamy smooth quality. Don't discount diy efforts till you give it a try. Hope I have sparked your interest. Best regards Moray James.
  21. don't know if you are into DIY or not but if you are and if you are not buying just to get the look you can build a much bettarm for just about as inexpensively as you want, you can make it as fancy as you want too. I can tell you this is a fine design and that it sounds excellent. It can equal and better in some areas a $3500.00 SME. So if you are interested have a look. Best regards Moray James. http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/analogue-source/173861-my-latest-iteration-nanooks-219-tonearm.html
  22. why don't you check over at the Heritage forum I am sure the Altec guys could advise you.Best regards Moray James. http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/
  23. Sent you a PM Best regards Moray James.
  24. Tom: if you use either a Heresy ll or lll as a centre channel with the cabinet in the vertical position, so woofer on the bottom with mid and tweeter above you will be getting 90 degree horizontal dispersion and 40 degree vertical dispersion from both the mid and hi horns. By the way I just last night installed Ti diaphragms into my brothers Quartet speakers and they are superb. So if you go with the H lll I think you will be delighted with the sound. Best regards Moray James.
  25. Well ok Chorus l and as far as the KLF 20 goes the reflex vents could be placed on the front side of the cabinets in short order. Make a nice looking set of plugs and any owner could swap from front to back in a heart beat and still have it look nice. The vents just pop in and out. IIRC there was a vent mod tor the Chorus which extended the vents for better bass but I cannot remember the name of the thread, perhaps someone here can. Best regards Moray James.
