  1. They're already hot rodded. I bought them off EBay a few years back. I have more time and money in them than the used units cost off of EBay. After all this is a hobby, right? I even got a hold of a guy in Australia that made new circuit boards for the remote control receiver board that actually work! Why would switchable modes, balanced or unbalanced detract from their value? Just cuz its not stock?
  2. Again I know for a fact that the Xilica output on pin 3 is just the signal ground through an impedance that matches the impedance of output on pin 2. Thus making it a balanced output. Tying this to ground on the RCA connector end will not damage the Xilica's output. Please give a link to "some sources"
  3. At least give the poor thing a towel on the flaming hot shingles.... Maybe she's into pain
  4. Hi All, Starting the process of pulling apart my 2 dbx 4bx dynamic range expanders to add balanced I/O. Just wondering if there is any interest here of me taking pictures along the way. I went through these units a couple winters ago and changed out most of the opamps, VCAs, RMS level detectors and almost all the caps.
  5. I'm waiting for the pictures of putting it back together😎
  6. Wow. I can't feel the love tonight No Love(or even like) for Uncle Eltie here. Hmmmmmm. To each his own. A great time was had by all.
  7. On a different note. Having a few people over today for a late lunch/early dinner. Then we're headed over to a small outside venue close to my house to see an Elton John tribute band. Should be lots of fun. I will serve my world famous spice rubbed roasted chicken breast and garlic and whole peppercorn stuffed tri tip roast. Both cooked on the green egg outside, its too dang hot to cook indoors. Cheers all.
  8. Wow Trials and tribulations. Life has 'em and we all go through 'em. Sucks when you're right in the mid.dle of one. Best wishes taking care of yours OT
  9. So when might that be? What's the hold up?
  10. I remember you not bein' able to stand up after a few Not that anybody could💫
  11. Can you still walk across Lake Erie?
  12. Plug a stereo AMPLIFIER into the line input of a sub?
  13. Ding! Ding! Ding! Winner. Winner. Winner
  14. I tried to explain in a previous post about keeping the inter chassis currents and signal currents separate by the way we connect our cables. The shield if connected properly is carrying only the inter chassis currents between the units. It is also draining off any electrostatically induced currents to some degree determined by the shield's effectiveness. Different cable types have shields of different effectiveness(a whole 'nother subject). Did you get a chance to read the AES seminar document that I posted a link to in a previous post? Mr. Whitlock explains this much better than I could ever hope to. He has devoted a great part of his life to understanding, explaining and disseminating this knowledge. He uses science and physics not snake oil and voodoo. I know pretty scary huh As far as modifying settings in the Xilica I am just getting started like you. But I really do not have much time to do this until winter. So far I'm just using settings from ChrisA.
  15. Sorry I did not see this yesterday or I skimmed right over it. The short answer is YES a properly terminated(connected) shield is at least partially SHIELDING the inner conductor(s) from electrical fields. And yes if it was not connected it would be ineffective.
  16. D-E-E-T-R-O-I-T I used to deliver papers for the Free Press in the wee early morning hours when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Detroit is a nice place to be----from.
  17. Yea the dealer told me to Bring My Wallet
  18. If you use engineered hardwood flooring on a wall can't you put the fasteners in at an angle that then gets covered by the next piece? Just like a floor?
  19. Files will have an extension .XDAT. Store them on your computer in a new directory of your choice. I call mine "Xilica Files" Imagine that. Do you have the XConsole App. up and running? And are you connected to the crossover? I am assuming you are. If so you will be able to open the .XDAT file and download to the crossover. Then store it in the crossover so you don't have hook up your computer all the time.
  20. You have a digital active crossover now. I don't see why there is any limitation on boosting as opposed to only using cutting in the filters. Of course you can't go crazy and overload the unit. I don't know if you saw my post in my Jube thread but I figured out what the front panel meters are indicating. There are showing level in dB below 0dBFS. And 0dBFS to Xilica is +20dBu. So as long as none of the red LEDs on the front panel meters are illuminating you are not overloading the Xilica. The meters in the XConsole App. are showing levels calibrated in dBu and are therefore much more useful in MHO.
  21. Now you're getting into where I need to go also. This is more @Chris A 's bailiwick. I would not want to even pretend I know anything about this yet except following someone else's instructions.
