  1. Thanks again Trent. You know there is just something about having them in my own room and with very familiar music. Those 402 horns are just amazing. But I want more bass. And I know everybody's going to say "you need a sub or two" but first I want to get the bass bins dialed in to the best of their capabilities in my room. BTW do the level meters on your Xilica ever show anything?
  2. Was not trying to start an argument. That's why I said DSDF. It's all good.
  3. different strokes for different folks. If a piece of music needs more bass(to my ears on my speakers in my room) I turn up the bass. How many op amps do you think were in between the microphone at recording time and your speakers at playback time?
  4. Yep always thought I'd get one but alas it has not happened.
  5. I used ChrisA's settings for TADs just to get up and running. I know I have adjusting to do.
  6. How's about denatured alcohol on the wood. That's what I used on an RSW-15 that had been in a smoky environment. The grill was another story. Got a small mortar mixing tub at Homer d Poe and soaked that baby in warm soapy water Then a soak in ammonia seemed to be the most helpful at removing the odor. But it was not 100% effective. But with time it is pretty much gone. This was done in my case because new grills for RSW-15 are pure unobtanium. Your Khorns could have new cloth installed.
  7. Yes now I am. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/176245-raw-jubes-in-da-house/&tab=comments#comment-2270086
  8. Got my first pair of LaScalas in 1977, so I don't know how straight it's been
  9. The D-75s are running the TADs one each in bridged(mono) mode, so I am only using two of them so far. You can hardly tell they're on. The 402/TADs will blow you out of the room before any registering on the signal indicator. But thanks for reminding me.... @John Warren the D75s I was modding are making sound now. I am no amplifier connoisseur but they sound pretty all right to me.

    What I Got Today!

The one with Terri Garr. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assignment:_Earth
  11. Funny you should say that, I had the left one over 8 or 10 feet but couldn't get'em both in the picture.
  12. Bought the TADs used a couple years ago from TrueHeartSound on ebay when he was trying to get rid of like 20(?) pairs. Then you remember my thread recently dissecting them to make sure they had beryllium diaphragms.
  13. Roger that, first pic shows a 10' x 12' rug and pad still rolled up and out of my way for the time being
  14. As I alluded to in CC and C thread yesterday these things are making sweet sounds in my man cave. Thanks to @MetropolisLakeOutfitters, @Trentster5172, @Chris A everyone at Klipsch and Assoc. Hope AR and most especially to @Chief bonehead. I've got more fine tuning to do. Chris I have the UMIK and a microphone stand but still waiting for a laptop(guess I have to order one before it will show up). I will get back to you when I get it. But so far the settings for the TADs sound pretty darn good to me. Also I have some veneering to do. And cable routing and clean up etc...etc....Oh and listening. Forgot, thanks @cincymat for the XP 4080
  15. Just catching up today...was off work (well at least from my paying job) on Friday and working around the homestead. Mainly incommunicado. The good news is over the last couple days I got the Jubilees hooked up and making sound. They are not in their final positions and the cabling is still a jumble but at least progress. Man o man those 402 horns sure have beautiful sound to them and such a big soundstage. I'll post some pics in a different thread. Later. Anyway just reading over the last couple days posts and I want to say the better half and I will be arriving in Texarkana Wednesday evening and should be in Hope noonish on Thursday. @dtel's wife, @dtel, @CECAA850 we will be available to help in anyway we can.
  16. Only been once, last year. I don't get it, what am I missing?

    What I Got Today!

Nope. Usually makes it worse. And is almost always against code.

    What I Got Today!

MAY NOT be a ground loop. May be common impedance coupling. There IS a scientific way to figure out what the problem is(and solve it). @Youthman did you start a thread about your issue? I think we've polluted this thread enough.

Ah yea as in of course it COULD.

    What I Got Today!

Resistance of the shield is most important? I had never heard that before. But there is far more I don't know than what I do know. Yes Sir, the most important. In un balanced equipment the shield is carrying the signal ground current and the inter chassis ground currents. If the resistance is not extremely low the inter chassis ground currents will be a noise voltage that is added to the signal at the sending device and the receiving device is going to amplify it because it cannot discern between signal and noise.

    What I Got Today!

In un balanced interconnects the most important factor is the resistance of the shield. The capacitance per foot is important also but unless we're talking about ridiculous amounts of capacitance and long runs it doesn't matter much. We're not listening to anything at 1 megahertz Most of us older guys aren't listening to anything above 15 kilohertz

    What I Got Today!

Read about their double shielding. I'll wager it is the lower resistance of the extra shield that accounts for the audio quality.
