  1. As you can see, a shop can be a tough environment for wooden furniture like my La Scala's. Here is the finished product of one of my shop La Scala's.
  2. Post this message in the Technical forum. As for the request to buy, go to the Garage sale forum and list a WTB (wanted to buy) message there.
  3. This morning I was talking to the regional rep for Rockford Fosgate and Paradigm, and he told me to not get the Marantz or Integra amp. He said go look at a company called Anthem. The PVA 7 would do quite well for me, but I notice it does not have balanced inputs. It is 105 WPC and 122 S/N ratio, which is adequate to drive my La Scalas. http://www.anthemav.com/products/anthem/amplifier/pva-series/pva-7 The price is $1600 on google. I compare that to the Marantz MM8003 which is 140 WPC and 105 S/N ratio. Thoughts?
  4. Next question. How exactly do you tune a pre/pro surround system? If this were a simple stereo setup I know just EQ the two channels. With many channels, do I buy gobs of EQ's and stick them between the preamp and the amp?
  5. I like the Behringer UFO 202 sound card. It has the ability to rip from the phono as it has a switchable built in phono preamp. It also comes with a software for cleaning up ripped vinyl. About $30
  6. Just run a different speaker wire to the speaker and see if it fixes it. If not the channel in the sub amp _or_ the speaker is bad. If you want to know which you have to risk trying the working speaker on that channel. If it works fine, the speaker was shorted, if it does not it is the channel of the amp inside the sub.
  7. Deleted post due to copyright infrigement.
  8. Thanks. I knew somebody here told me how to do all this. I am going to video the shop once I get things up, and I will use the new microphone! I believe I would like a calibrated one as well. Ignorance is bliss, and unless I get hit in the head, I cannot be ignorant of the calibrated wonder if its right issue. [H] Where did you get the one you bought?
  9. OK, I now have the 12 sheets of Baltic Birch ready to make my 4 Tuba HT's. I need to start thinking about some kind of measuring software and hardware so I can get all these drivers balanced. Has anybody got any recomendations? Back a long time ago somebody gave me a tip on something, but I've lost it.
  10. Isn't that just some regular old 75 ohm cable TV cable with an RCA twisted on each end? That is very interesting.
  11. When I stream Netflix stuff, my receiver gets the codec for Dolby Digital, which is 5.1. This receiver, and Onkyo, displays the little orange digital by the Dolby Pro Logic which means it is getting the Dolby Digital signal. Look at what your receiver sees.
  12. You need to buy a receiver. The Marantz NR1402 would be a perfect fit. http://us.marantz.com/us/Products/Pages/ProductDetails.aspx?CatId=AVReceivers&SubCatId=&ProductId=NR1402 The Onkyo TX-SR308 is also nice, but a little higher rating than your speakers at 65 WPC. http://www.us.onkyo.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR308&class=Receiver&p=s There are cheaper receivers out there, but make sure you don't stray too far over the 50 watts per channel RMS which is the rating for those speakers. CD does not have 5.1, it is stereo. You can use all channel stereo setting with a receiver which will take that stereo sound and divide it up into the 5.1 system and sound well seperated.
  13. edit: Promedia 2.1 system does what you need. The only thing is you would not be using the speakers you have. Scratching head. I also thought a simple DAC might work, but no sub out. Perhaps a DAC with pre outs. I have seen 50 and 80 watt stereo dacs that were small.
  14. What about a sub with speaker outs? A computer, ipod, or mp3 could go into the L/R RCA in with an adapter from Radio Shack, and you are golden.
  15. We bought 4 at 99 cents. How can you go wrong?? Crazy price. I have Blockbuster and VuDu, and although the playback is as good in most cases as a DVD, it does not compare with BluRay.
  16. I am very close to pulling the trigger on the Marantz AV7005. It's $1500, and has the 2 hdmi outs. I compare it to the pre Integra sells, and it is not only cheaper, but has some built in online stuff i like.
  17. I have been married for 26 years, and its NOT because I cut up her furniture. As for the sound being as good, I doubt it. The chest will probably rattle to beat hell. Bill Fitzmaurice has a sub called a table tuba. Looks like an end table, and it will likely own whatever you have. Plans cost 14.95, and you build it yourself. http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/TT.html
  18. I found this, and it is very helpful. It is a speaker wire size calculator. http://www.bcae1.com/images/swfs/speakerwireselectorassistant.swf edit: My bad, you are talking about an RCA cable to a powered sub. Go figure, this _is_ the powered sub forum, after all. The heat is REALLY getting to me!! [:S]
  19. you mean using this peavey 15" woofer in a LS which has the other original parts (tweeter, mid-range,horn, crossover) and with the original enclouser will result unsatisfactory? won't it sound like klipsch? keep in mind that this Peavey woofer is better than K-33 Better? Do you mean higher output? Bill Fitzmaurice has some great plans on his site for all kinds of do-it-yourself enclosures for all sizes of drivers. His plans sell for about $14 each emailed. http://www.billfitzmaurice.com/index.html
