  1. Oh Yeah! Colin sums it up real good! I can't ever imagine changing my present rig. I don't think IMHO there could possibley be an "upgrade"!!!!!! 2. Every thing I've got was free. Sure I bought it all new and paid them thier asking price, but my point is. I grew up a navy brat with memories of little frills and alot of good times had on exotic beaches in far away lands.Seems there was never an abundence of money, but mom and dad were happy then.college was out of the question. No money followed by less money. The trade I practice picked me. I was fascinated with machinery an tore apart dad's lawn mower at 9 yrs. old. Saw what made it roar, put it back together and it worked fine. Now I own my shop,I repair motor cars, it's what I truely love to do,The money is plentiful and it's just a fringe benefit. I never rise to an alarm clock and I don't have issues. So, you see,Every thing I've aquired is free. Life is good. Now watch the politicians screw it all up. ------------------ Sonic Frontiers; line 3SE, Power 2SE. 6. I visited SVSuubs link again and this time I read a whole lot of it. Seems the amps they're selling have XLR. inputs so that puts to rest the trauma of hooking up subs to my rig. Now I have to do is buy! 8. Audio friends, Is there an issue with the isolated (balenced) cahannels being tapped between the pre/pwr amps to derive a all inclusive bass signal w/o allowing the two channels to get continueity to one another in any way? Sonic Frontiers says in VERY BOLD PRINT not to join the channel/speaker ground ever, as geo thermal melt down would be eminate! 9. Hey guys, one more thing to consider. The Sonic Frontirs rig has COMPLETELY isolated channels (the ground paths to each speaker are not joined). It seems I should be assured any breakout network between the pre and pwr. amps does not join these ground paths. In consideration of the difference in quality sound reproduction between Klipsch main speakers and an aftermarket, smaller coned sub could prababley be accepted, as the lower speed freqs. contain less complicated (slower) information reletive to time. Besides the more old dental work I loosen up, the more new crowns I get. 10. Finally devine enlightenment I can understand! Well, it looks like one powered sub, summed R/L input, networked to say 50 Hz or so. Rock On! Thanks for all the praise of my gear. Ive been throwing things at my Lascala's since I bought them in '84 and after CONSIDERABLE shopping effort I opted for the Sonic Fronteirs goodies. Oh it sounds marvelous, very, very lush but the best feature is the rig is absolutely quiet! The support of a SVSub 16/46 and a few hundred watts ought to be the end of my messing with the music box. Then I'm going to tackle what to use to acomodate my Sony vpl-vw10hp projector set. 11. Ray,Doug and friends, Thanks for the info and the desrciption of the big system. heres my problem;I've got this amp that has no continuity of the speaker ground circuits to one another. It's my understanding that I can't sample both rt. and left channels by some kind of networking device and obtain bass from both chanels delivered to a single sub. Sonic Frontiers says don't tie the ground paths together as the system is balenced from beginning to end or you'll damage the amp.Now this rig's got lotsa power, most listening (when wife is home) is done at around 70-80Db. I figure that is considerably less than 1 watt. SF says it will cruise at 110wpc. So, can I run the speaker leads to 2 non-powered subs (1 for each channel), with a high pass network of sorts(that will give the subs all signal up to say 50hz) then allow the signal above 50hz to continue on to the Lascala's. Sounds simple enough to me but is there a catch 22 to this logic? I don't want ANY additional components in the signal path that are not absolutly needed. 13. I've seen a lot of post around here about SVSubs. Went to their web sight, I'm still confused. What should I use in my system for a sub, how many and how do I hook them up? 14. Been so long I'm having trouble recalling. Had to have been about 70' or 71' or so. Heard a friends' cousins'rig, a pair of unfinished Cornwalls pumped by a pair of black Nakamichis, EQ'd w/r.t.a. equiptment, input from a B&O table. OH MY! Wasn't untill 81' I bought a pair of new, oiled oak Corwalls, new Denon pma-770 inter-amp, table & tuner. Got a new mutt at the same time. Thought I had the thing house broke but, a noticable odor permiated the place and one evening I saw the son of a bitc hoist his leg on the back of one of the speakers. Well I didn't shoot him but he did get THE BIG RIDE ! Sold the cornwalls. Hope that buyer never noticed. Bought new Heresys' Loved em, but missed the big sound of the Cornwalls. Sold the Heresy's to a good friend. Ordered a new pair of Factory finished, Walnut Lascalas and never looked back! Started shopping for the ultimate sounding electronics a couple years back. Got tired of having to use EQ,s / expanders / compressors /numerous inter cons. stuff, stuff and more stuff. Traveled far and listened to some pricey stuff ( Mc,Classe,Lynn,Cary) Stopped in to our local audio lab and heard a good piece of demo gear, an Anthem rig. Ordered bottom of the line Anthem, Couldn't kill it, disected to evaluate the build hipe and was pleased with the quality. Ordered the top of the Sonic Frotiers line, traded the Anthem rig against it.Gave the Denon away. Will prabably never change the rig again and definently never use a tuner! 17. Justin I've seen several chances to buy Lascalas and cornwalls on ebay and yahoo cheap. Real cheap, like $700 or so. The ones with the disco mirrors would have been a lot of work but the end result would have been worth it. 18. Well I'm not surprised. So much for the new product lines! I'm proud to say since '81 my Lascalas have never given me a seconds grief. Not surprising seeing how they're from the heritage regime. 19. Paul, You didn't mention your speaker wire. The three best tweaks since gender have to be as follows: Multiple individually insulated conductor speaker leads. I am of the opinion that Kimber 8 doubled has no superior. Have you got those speaker stands on spikes? The effect is like having just entered the room where the artists are preforming. Make a sound effort to push the spikes through the carpet and pad to contact the firm flooring. Did you ever play marbles? I have all of my electrorig sitting on 3/4" glass marbles on glass shelves in a cherry Sanus stand (also on spikes). The rubber factory feet with their hollowed centers nicely accommodate the spheres. The effect is like a diode. Vibrations pass from the spheres to the shelves, but not from the shelves to the marbles. All of these tweaks work! Something they all share is "they make the system faster." Bass becomes stecoto accurate, mids are absolutely natural, highs have precision that lingers to disipation. The room is here and now. Simple physics, quality components, choice jams. 20. tblasing; what ever you do with your rig, drop the 12ga monster wire. the two greatest improvements i've made to my rig were; support the speakers on three spikes, {each spkr}.arrange two spikes at driver end of cabinet and remaining spike at horn/cone end. once satisfactory location is found, if spkr/spkrs is/are on carpet, force spikes through carpet to contact solid floor. select new speaker wire. multiple induvidually insulated conducters will amaze all who try this. i ran monster 12ga for 16 years. watta waste. i now use the monster wire as the safety ground path for the power conditioner to earth. 8 or 10 strand thermostat wire is satisfactory for short runs. how long? i dunno. kimber 8 is prabably the best value. a double run of it has no superior. i've got 20ft on each of mine. now some day i'll find a contractor to put a new basement under my house and have need for the length. wonder if a new basement will survive the klipsch? ------------------ sonic frontiers; line 3se, power 2se. monster 2500 pwr. cntr. marantz sa-1 wire world equinox3 intr. cons. kimber 8 spkr. cons. lascala's sonus stands (2). mothballed;every thing i'm not proud of!
