I will be having a DFW Hornheads gathering at my house in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Plano, TXon Sunday August 5th September 23rd. It will start around 11:00 AM and go to whenever.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I will supply massively yummy eats including some sort of cooked meat. For drinks I will concoct some sort of house drink and will supply water and iced tea other than that it will be BYOB. You are also free to bring your own massively yummy treats as well [] We can discuss details as the date nears but I wanted to send this out ASAP so people can pencil in the date. As a reminder I have two systems that we can play with: System 1 (Javabean Entertainment Room): 5 Cornwalls, SVS subs, 65" CRT, mix of solid state and tubes, DVD, DVD-A, SACD, turntable System 2 (Mad Tom Studios Cinema): 5 Heresys, SVS sub, 132" 2.35 Cinemascope screen with 720p LCD front projector, all digital amp, DVD, HD-DVD, original Xbox Let me know if you are interested. Err I guess hehe [] Seriously though I did have the speakers turned around the proper way and found the surround effects seriously lacking. I think it sounded better the way they are now...shrug...so who knows. Interesting comments and I had actually thought of the Bose comparision myself when I turned them around. That is what gave me the idea in the first place. I agree that room treatment plays a major part in the total quality of sound in a room. I will keep these suggestions in mind when have have all the golden ears over in August. I will make sure that we play around with the placements. Laters, Jeff

Mas - Thanks for the comments. Right now I am very happy with the sound. All the speakers are crossed over at 80Hz so there is not really any bass issues that I need to corner load the speakers for. I want the reflections from the corners for the surround sound effects. However I am always open to suggestions and I am having a gathering at my house in August with fellow hornheads and this is one of the things we are going to play around with. I agree with your level matching comment. I have been balancing people's systems for many years with my dB meter and test discs. I get to constantly amaze people with how much better their system can sound with the proper bass crossover settings and level balancing. [] Laters, Jeff [:|]As you like... But I would definitely corner mount them in the upper corners angled dowbward with absorptive material behind and iimediately to the sides of the cabinets and then adjust the gain accordingly so as not to mask the front direct signals.

Yup sounds like you already know the answer. Best match in this order Cornwall -> Heresy -> Academy -> Custom built (which quite a few have done). I currently have a Vertical Cornwall as my center channel but I have also used a Heresy. The Heresy was fine as long as you crossed it over at 80Hz or so. Running it full range for 5 channel music it could just not keep up. A couple of people have taken a Heresy , removed the tweeter and midrange horns and remounted them to fit their configuration (they don't ahve to be sealed). Then you seal the holes in the Heresy and it becomes the bass bin for the horns but it can be moved around a bit. You run 2 sets of wires from the crossover in the Heresy to the tweeter and midrange. Steve - I have attached a picture of what I have done in my theater. I really enjoy the sound. Having them pointed into the corners gives me the best sound in my width limited theater. If my theater was wider and longer I would have placed them behind and to the sides a bit. I am happy with the height but I may actually increase that as well. The letter "T" in the serial number would indicate a build year of 1979. As to value it all depends on the condition and the desire of the buyer. I have seen Cornwall pairs go from $500 to over $2000. Laters, Jeff

I agree with everything that has been said here. There is TONS of readily downloadable material available on the internet. You should have no problem finding some. I know this is the 2-Channel section but their DVD's of live shows are decent as well. I also agree that MOE is a good jam band. You may also want to try Phish as well. Laters, Jeff

Looks better. You can take measurements of my setup when you come over this weekend. I have a 52" tall image that is about 28" off the floor. It is a tad high from the first row of seating but perfect from the riser. You will be able to spend as much time as you like sitting and watching images so you can get a good feeling of what you are planning for your setup. The height from the floor issue is why I am using Heresys instead of the newer speakers. Do you know how to get ahold of falcon20x? He wanted to come over too but I have not gotten a response to the PM I sent him. Laters, Jeff

There are some folks coming over this weekend and I realized that I had not posted updated pictures since I installed my actual 2.35 screen with custom borders. So here are the updates. The screen is a Da-lite Model C manual pulldown with their High Power material. It has a viewable area of 52"x122.25" with 4" borders on each side, 23" border on the bottom, and a 6" border on the top. Here is the screen installed Some screenshots. Looks like you have things covered. Glad to see that you are not putting the speakers in a hole in the wall. That would not be a good idea at all. I have never been a fan of the grey screens. In my opinion the more gain the better. Also it looks like your screen placement is high as in neck straining high. Hopefully you will get some good ideas and some practical experience when you stop by on Sunday? Have you decided on a time yet? Oh Trey I cannot use DLP's unless it is a three chip unit. I really don't see rainbows but they make me seasick even with the newer faster color wheels. It really is a strange feeling. LCD all the way for me baby. Of course if you want the best blacks and colors then you have to get a CRT...but that is a whole other thread. Laters, Jeff

Inventor - I live in Plano and I have two Klipsch powered systems. One has 5 Cornwalls and a 65" diag TV, the other is 5 Heresy's and AX100 720p front projection system ~106" diag 1.78 and ~133" diag for 2.35. The projector is in a 11.5'x16' room so very similar to yours. This will give you a good comparsion of the options you are considering. Send me a PM if you would like to come over for a demo.
