  1. I looked and played a few of the newer Ibanez guitars after my son bought a new model, an RGA121 if I remember correctly. Mahogany body with a thick maple cap. Understated looks with great tone. He has swapped the pickup out, which did make a great improvement . I looked at the Artcore series, and they were some really great guitars for the money. Being an acoustic player, the hollowbodies were the ones I was looking at. Very, very nice for the money. I did have a Burny, LP copy, in the late '70s, which are highly sought after. A friend of mine got his in Japan while in the Air Force. I paid him $100 for it, and it was equal to or better than many genuine LPs. Wish I still had it. Bruce
  2. Ah... there's a lot of different roots out there though. I like the darks, but they are very filling. Spaten Optimator Theakston Old Peculier Leinenkugel - almost any of their brews. I think there are too many to count that are good. Blue Moon, too. Bruce
  3. Really we are mostly a bunch of wackos pretending to know a lot about audio. [8-)] Bruce
  4. So these go in a different direction than the djk mods? You have made a larger cabinet volume and tuned them differently. They owould only have to be about ten inches high to do Dennis' mod, even if you used a slot port of some kind. The basic concept is the same. Bruce
  5. Welcome to the forum. There are lots of great reports of people using Crown amps with Klipsch Heritage gear. How are you sealing the area around the K-55 on the back panel? Is there another smaller panel that covers the hole? There are some who have felt that a 7 inch port length works better, returning the snappiness to the bass but getting more low end than stock. Can you change the ports to try or is everything pretty well locked in? Very nice job, btw. They look really good. My LS will be headed for the bass mod one of these days. Something you may want to consider, is the tweeter replacement from Bob Crites. They are a drop in replacement, and took me all of ten or fifteen minutes to do on my pair. The improvement was rather dramatic to my ears. A lot smoother high end, and higher power handling. I built my own crossovers, still first order, as I normally listen at lower volumes and use some 2A3 amps. Long term, if you play at higher SPLs, you may want to go with an extreme slope design. Bruce
  6. I'm wanting to get to know her parents, after all the stuff Josh told about the Montreal trip. Yup, pretty danged happy about it. Bruce
  7. I knew something was up when he started wearing ankle weights to keep from floating up to the ceiling. The deer in headlights look... Let's see... he plays bass and acoustic/electric guitar while she plays violin and fiddle (just noting the two different styles of playing). The both like bluegrass and celtic music. Do they look a bit Irish or what? Bruce
  8. Can't answer that question. What freq. was the crossover to the tweeter on the Westlake monitors? I think they didn't have vanes in them. Don't know if they crossed higher than the 1200Hz of this on or not.
  9. Looks like a Cornwall to me. You made the drawings earlier anyway. Looks nice and clean. Bruce
  10. I would really think the Summits are far more than L100s on steroids. The Summits should walk all over them with finesse. I would buy the Summits from you, but I need more speakers like I need a hole in the head. Bruce
  11. Now your using that pic out of context. I always thought it meant that guys are easier to turn on, while the gals require more 'fine tuning' and more adjustments. Or makes them far harder to maintain. I love those anyway. Craig, It sounds like another winner. You still haven't said how much it weighs, though. Would I need to get my floors braced underneath?
  12. You sure did say it earlier. I don't know why they missed it. DIY, Sorry I can't help on the 125Hz problem. And I only have a two channel setup. Sounds like you have a wiring nightmare. Bruce
  13. Isn't Maron suggesting two Audax drivers, the same way John used two of the JBL ten inchers on his? Sounds like a plan to me.
  14. That's what I was wondering too. How much does it weigh? That thing is a tank. I can't believe how much my Moondogs weigh, so this must come in very heavy. Bruce
  15. Be good to her. Many marriages don't make it much past the five year mark. The farther behind it gets the better it gets. I mean, it really just gets better and better. I'm sure Eldon and Christy can attest to that. Bruce
  16. O'Connell is great. She performed a couple of times in Chattanooga for the free summer concerts here. This spring will see a concert with Tony Rice, Alison Krause and Union Station with Jerry Douglas. That ought to be a hot show and I hope to get to see it. If only it were free, but it is a paid concert. Bruce
  17. Jim, Actually, my friend is from the Philippines. She is presently working in China and will meet me back in Manila. She said she would stick like glue to me. [] She's a tiny thing too. 4' 11" and 90 pounds. If we hadn't had 911, I could almost sneak her back in in my carry on bag.
  18. Thanks to Erik and Mark both - I had tried the original Merlin with my Alesis SS amp, but it has about a 7k input impedance. The bass was rolled off tremendously with that setup. I am thinking the MErlin II would do nicely for me in that regard. Then I could retire the Sony SS receiver I use on my Heresies. All I need now is the money. Since I'm taking a trip to the Philippines next month, I'll just have to wait a while I guess. Bruce
  19. Is the noise a hiss or other electrical noise? Is it there with the volume turned all the way down? If so, is it probably something in the input stage, and may just be a noisy tube. Tubes - you love 'em or you hate 'em. Sometimes both at the same time. Bruce
  20. fini, I was thnking of eggplant when you posted that, but on re-reading CHrity's post, I fully understand... [8-)]
  21. That's for the burn-in. Is this perhaps the first humorous post by fini for the new year?[] Looking forward to this amplifier being completed...think it's already on my wish list (along with extra cash to buy the darn thing)! I think that is for the smoke test.
  22. I think Leo, Paul, and Dean have all given great advice. The caps have certainly drifted out of spec, so even in a larger room you would want to get them 'freshened' or brought back into spec or replaced. Paul and Leo might sound a bit at odds, but I think they may be more in agreement than first appears. While you may not want a low power amp, much of the time you may not be using much power. If the amp isn't clean at low power, you will really notice it. Having never heard any of the digital amps, I wouldn't be able to comment on them. A smaller room may be bringing all of the high end to the fore, making them seem a bit harsh. All of the electronics things mentioned by Leo will help, no matter what speakers you end up with. The Crown D45 Leo mentions, is rated 25 wpc into 8 ohms. That is about the bottom for many here (even though I use very low power amps and am satisfied), and many would still go quite a bit higher in power amps. Obviously, you have used higher power. I have a feeling that the new room is only pointing out the defects that existed before the move. New caps for the crossovers would be a cheap fix/correction, and may be all you need to do. Speaker placement is going to be a bear. Neither the long or short wall will work quite right. Bruce
