  1. Just watched War Horse, 7.1 BD tonight. Great family movie with some good explosions for the sub, lol.
  2. PL IIX will matrix the 5.1 source to the surround back channels. This is in contrast to PL IIZ, which is a matrix for amibience and other special effects sent to the height channels. Both matrix functions are from a 5.1 source. 7.1 sources have the surround back or front height channel as discrete channel with their own encoded material. Many people think Front Height channels are more bang for your system since it enhances the front stage. I prefer to watch movies in the BD format that is picked up by the player, but this is a matter of personal taste. The only one that need be happy is you![] Dolby and DTS transfer rates are not comparable due to the technology used in each.
  3. Shoot em up and 3-10 to Yuma come mind as 7.1 movies that I have viewed on my system.
  4. Bi-amping does involve two separate power sources for the speaker. One of the real advantages of Bi-amping is the signal is not altered before it get's to the speaker. Theorectically there will be less chance of clipping/distrosion and more headroom in the amp. This is an overly simplified comments that get into a topic of active vs passive X-O and other aspect of the audio chain
  5. Hey Schu, is the sub LPF set at 120, and the 80 Hz x-o is that in the avr or on the sub.
  6. I have two Samsung BD players, a BD-D550 and a BD-C5500. The D5500 is a 3D player. They both work flawlessly with great picture quality. I have not had any issues loading disc for movies or audio. The 3D picture is awesome when I use it. I like the BD Live and Allshare functions on the player for other internet/DLNA applications. I am a Samsung fan. I have two of the 3D plasma TV for both HT systems. For me, no reason to upgrade for now since I am very satisfied with these players. I just need the Samsung Galaxy to double as a remote for everything.
  7. I like that seat where the remotes are. Looks comfortable for music listening! Enjoy the new additions.
  8. Neither is better than the other. They give you the option for bi- wiring/ bi-amping your speakers. The speaker should come with a gold metal bridge/strap. When the bridge/strap is in place, you can use either the top or bottom post to connect you speakers. Do not remove the metal strap or your speaker may not work properly. It is recommended to connect your speaker to the top post. The top post are used for HF driver and the lower post for the LF driver when bi-amping the speakers.
  9. The sub 10 in the older version of the SW 450 which is a nice sub. I had one for 3 weeks trying it out and found it to be a great sub. It should get plenty loud. It sounded great with HT and music.
  10. I use Samsung Allshare or Serviio, which is similar to TVersity. I think these programs are pretty good being free. Your storage abilities are only limited by your hard drive space. I also use my Samsung 3D BD for streaming music and other internet content and to access Netflix. I like Pandora better than many of the other radio options (free). V tuner can also be use in WMP for even more radio stations. The avr has XM and Sirus, but free is better.
  11. Rudeness and bashing is not a hallmark of this forum. There are other forums suited for that style, if one has to express himself wth other rude people.
  12. The Pioneer Elite SC 57 is a highly reguared amp. It is a Class D 3 , which mean it will operated all channels very close to the stated output. The SC 57 has 9 separate amps inside. It is also 4 ohm stable, which mean you can run RF 7II without a problem. Even rated at 140 watt this thing can go much higher for transient peaks. Heat biuld up in not a problem since it is a class D3 and stay relatively cool. This avr is Pioneer's Flagship. The extra features that it has are also great and the connectivity is excellent. I wish I could trade my SC 35 for this one. I will most likely say that when the next new avr come out, lol. The SC 35/37 are not 4 ohm stabel. People do run RF 7II without problems with those amps.
  13. Welcome to the madness. The SC 57 is a great choice for an avr. You may be able to find it cheaper if you look around the internet or can find an open box item at a retailer with full warranty( BB). Others will chime and give suggestion.
  14. For HT the LFE or .1 channel is a production channel for movie sound enigeers to pass the low frequecy sound through. The subwoofer Lpf should be set at 120 in the avr so that you get all the LFE that the engineers placed in the channel. Think of the subwoofer as a playback channel. It will only play things below the x-o setting you pick for the sub. It is commonly recommended to turn the sub x-o all the way up or turn it off. Setting all the speakers to small allows bass management from the avr. Bass management is taking all the low frequency form the surround and other bass limited speakers and combining them into the .1 channel with the LFE to be played back by the subwoofer. Setting speakers to Large= no bass management. Most tower speaker cannot handle low bass as well as a good sub. I have 4 tower speakers and use the setting of SMALL. Some people do not like setting their towers to small, they paid good money for them. But, that is not the issue, it is good bass management. Music playback is also very good in this type of setup. I hope I am not miss something from some of the post.
  15. How large is the room? How many speakers do you want? In other words, what are you looking to do. I favor the 7.1 avr's for room to grow. The Denon has some nice features.
  16. That a great deal. Wait till you tryout some of the apps and watch a 3 D blueray, now you are talking home entertaiment. I just moved my router to the audio/video setup and hooked everthing into it. No firmware issues since the Samsung BD has a lot of updates.
  17. The WF 35 is a beautiful speaker and will enhance your HT experience over the WB 14's as front speakers. As far as the avr goes, it depends on you listening habits. More power can give you more headroom to handle transients and peaks at louder levels, which is what most people want from a HT. As far as amps go, it starts to get into personal preference and the signature look that you want for your HT and it's foot print, since size is an issue A great HT can be done with bookself speakers and a couple of good subs. A second small sub for your HT will give you the most bang for your buckets. Others will chime in on this post.
  18. As Scappydue said, 70% or more of the dialogue comes from the center channel. To simplify things, you can use a univeral X-over of 80 and get good results. When you get the sub, placement will be the biggest factor to get great bass. One way to do this is to place the subwoofer at you sweetspot and walk around the room and see where the bass sounds best. This will be the best location for your sub. Congrats on the purchase. I like the universal x-over and not setting the towers lower. No reason to try and have the towers do the work of the sub. It will help eliminate phase, re-enforcement and cancellation issues at certain frequencies. This is not the only way, but it is simple and gives excellent results. When selecting x-over settings, it is a good rule to set the x-over 10-15 higher than the speakers lowest frequency response.
  19. This past weekend I was at BB and seen a Samsung Galaxy for $249 which is about the cost of some of the remotes. I have a Samsung TV and BD player which is why I wondered if it would work. My avr has an internet contol and I don't need any controls for the amps. When I was at a custom audio store the guy was using an I Pad to control and stream music to the system.
  20. This is a little bit off the subject, but does anyone use a Samsung Galaxy or I Pad to control their equipment and for streaming? I have been looking at this option as well as the Harmony Remotes. It seem like if there is an app for the device it should work.
  21. The price just went up, he joine the Klipsch forum, lol.
  22. Congrats on the nice pickup. Sounds like your are ready to plug N play. Enjoy![<)]
  23. Looking cool is what it is all about. Some people say 2 sub will get you 70-80% to Nirvana, so with 4 subs, you should be in HT bliss. If you keep experimenting with the subs, I know of a good hernia doctor[]
  24. Get the best sub you can afford. The SW 115 would serve you better for HT. A second sub can always be added later. The choice of sub(s) will have the most dramatic impact of your HT setup compared to some of the other components.
