  1. This technique works for both regular and nearfield 2 channel listening. First energize your speakers to the correct volume. Get seated and put on your favorite music. Next, cup your hands and put them along side your ears.Wow, perfect imaging, lol. Except it is not very practical, ha ha. Life should be fun!
  2. Now I am really curious on where the woofers should face on my Epik, I just face the log end toward the listening area. I may play around with it some more. The Behringer really made a big difference. Thanks for posting artto. Now I want to do measurements. Sometimes you think things are good and someone shows a way to make it better.
  3. All music with Klipsch, even things I use to not like, lol. Jazz is great with horn loaded speakers!
  4. I seen a shoot of 18 in subs from a few years ago, HUS, Rythmin, Elemental Design and another popular sub brand with the Epik Legend. Performance wise, the Legend was a 98/100 if the 18in subs were 100/100. I wish I would have bookmarked the page. All the other subs were around 120 lbs.The Empire propably behaves like a 21in sub. It has a higher frequency range 20-300 Hz, where as, the Lengen is 20-200 Hz making it a great sub for music. Today I will try it out with a few BD. A good sub can give you more bang for you buck compared to buying larger speakers for your HT/ muti-channel music listening..
  5. Room #1, but I would definetly play with it in room #2. This hobby is about having fun[<)]
  6. No, the SW 450. I recently purchased the SW 450 and told the salesman that I had see it at another Best Buy for $369. He then matched the price. I have brought other things at BB with a decent discounts. Sometimes we forget to ask and just go with the price tag on the shelf. It is a very capable sub with low distorsion, high output, and good sensitivity.
  7. Check out the SW 450 by Klipsch. It is a very good sub and BB may bargin with you near the $350-370 dollar range. It goes up to 116 db. I had one for 3 wks in my setup and no complaints, very solid sub.
  8. The SW 450 is a very nice subwoofer, good output and quality of bass: it may be an under rated gem in the Klipsch sub line. Since it is a ported sub it is very efficient. Nothing bad to say about the SW 450 excpt, I wanted more bang for HT around 30-40 Hz.. My AA sub has good low extension at the expensive of higher volume. I wondered if a sub could really improve music, which the Epik Legend is described as being able to do. I listen to a lot of extended stereo in my system. So, I thought of one thing in my system that would improve HT and music to upgrade. The Ledgend seemed like a good addition. I set all speakers to small with the sub working. The legend is very good with music, more clarity of the low midrange. The bass seems to roll across my room like a wave. The legend to my ear has zero distortion which is great for ht and music. I also like the extra power and low extension so I can feel things in certain movies. I have not done multlple room placements, so I may do that next. The SC 35 handels standing waves so well that intergration was very easy between the two sub. Thanks for the response. One last thing, due to the clarity of the legends bass output, it takes a little bit of listening to: to get use to. What is your review of the Emprie? I don't see anyother forum members with these subs yet.
  9. Hey, sorry man if you took my post the wrong way. On this forum Klipsch subs are alway being compared to ID subs. I see so few or almost no Epik subs on this forum, that I thought I would just throw it out there for other forum members consideration. It is about choice, and options only. I personally like my experience with Klipsch subs. Give us a quick review of the sub after you break it in with some movies and music.
  10. MCACC does more than set speaker levels in comparion to an spl meter. Standing wave, speaker equalization, reverb, time delay and a few more things to make your setup work in synergy with your room, If you have a little time to play with it I think you can do a better job than a home theater or Hi Fi guy. AVS has a great forum on the different Pioneer avr's and MCACC. Now the tv is a different story. I had two Denon avr and perfer MCACC over Audyssey. I know MCACC does not EQ below 63Hz, but for me the way it works with standing waves and room intergration makes it a stand out autocalibration system.
  11. If you are in a small or medium size room, maybe consider a micro system like the HD 500 by Klipsch. The satellites are clean and well defined with music and the sub will more than cover you bass needs. This system can be very loud and still sound excellent. I own one and have no complaints with it's quality. If you will be doing nearfied listening then bookshelf speakers will be better. The micro system will give you the option of multichannel audio/video entertainment. The satellites can set in the bookshelf, lol.
  12. Welcome to the forum. First off, I have a few questions. How will the speaker be used, just for music or eventually be in a home theater? What is your listening style? Tell us a little more so that others can give you some solid advice. All bookself speakers are not meant to be on a bookself. The rear ported speakers need space behind them for optimal function and sound.
  13. Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the froum. Yes, they are nice speakers. Audio is without a ceiling and buy what you like and like what you buy[]. An avr with that power rating is 100 or a bit more should be enough depending on your listening habits and room size. Give us more info and other will help. Will this be for 2 channel or HT? What more are you thinking about getting? What type of music do you listen to?
  14. Just got an Epik Lengend sub, two can be had for the price of the SW-115. The Legend is a great sub and the sound quality is so clean. Very powerful with dual 12in. drive and goes down to 18 Hz. It has 30% more woofer surface area than the SW-115 for very deep bass.
  15. By the way I am no Pro, just a novic learning new things everyday I did not have any power issues, but I purchased the rocket fish to have better surge protection and to be able to turn on and off all the equipment with one remote. It comes with an equipment replacement gurantee , for around $130, not bad. Weather I truely needed it is another story. I was able to tell after buying a used vintage amp that there was a problem with the amps power supply, even though it worked fine due to the surge on the rocket fish display. I had the amp servieced and it works great. So for me it was a good investment. One of the cheapest considering all of the purchases and upgrades sine last August. It is black like all the rest of my systen so it blends in nicely with everthing else. That is the main reason I chose it over the monster silver console.
  16. Just set up the Epik Legend with my system. It is a heav, compact sub that looks nice in the family room. Great bass after the initial intergration with the 15in. sub Music is awesome with this sub, Very detailed midrange and bass note roll in on the room like a wave. Hit 105 db watching a clip form super 8 with the avr at -15 measure 17 from the front stage. I will toy with more placement options later. So far a definet keeper. A very powerful sub for the price.
  17. I was more concered with the Legend rated near the HUS, Rythmik and HSU 120 lb. subs since it has dual 12 in. drivers which is more surface area than a 15 in. driver. I was wondering will this compliment or drown out the other sub. I will level match them and test the system out tomorrow and report my observation. I had no trouble intergrating the SW 450 with the 15 in. sub. This should be interesting. But for the price, it is a good deal and if needed I can get a second epik down the road.
  18. You are welcome Brac. You will really like this micro satellite sys. Back to the selling block for me, darn.
  19. I am thinking about purchasing the Epik Legend 12, sub. Is it a good sub or other suggestions. The Klipsch SW 450 will be replaced since I can return it. It is not a bad sub and sounds good. I am doing the enemy of good thing, looking for better.[:$] I will have to subs in my family room HT. The other sub goes down to 21 Hz, do you think I will have problems with sub intergration. Level match or gain match the sub? The epik and the other sub both have 300 watt rms. The epik is a sealed sub and the other one ported. Audiophile dual 12 inch compact subwoofer system 300W RMS amplifier Parallel Drive Technology ™ Sealed cabinet design for improved sound quality & subsonic performance Opposed side-firing drivers cancel out cabinet vibration Stackable, side-by-side or separate placement abilities Outstanding midbass performance Massive ¾ inch thick internally braced cabinet 1 inch thick grills with acoustically transparent fabric Compact CAD designed enclosure Precision CNC machined Full 1 inch radius corners throughout High quality black laminate finish RCA dedicated LFE and Crossover inputs 750W short-term RMS Frequency response : 20-200 Hz +/-3.5 dB 16 - 18 Hz usable in-room extension Weight: 80 pounds shipped Size: 18 H x 15 W x 20 D (13W w/o grills
  20. I had a similar problem with my Pioneer one day after moving the equipment. After I hooked up everything, the front speakers connected to my external amp did not work. The amp was connected via the front pre-outs. Reset the avr back to it's defalt state and it worked. I had to re-run MCACC again which is a little pain in the rear.
  21. A good 32 band eq. may do the trick and is relatively inexpensive. You can bring out the frequecies that you feel missing. The learning curve will take sometime. Use a set of good headphones to help train your ears. We like tinkering with things anyway, lol.[*-)]
  22. The shop I went to had speaker up to $100,000 + dollars. I just wanted to hear what these type of speakers sounded like. I listened to the speakers under $ 20, 000 dollars for a fair comparison. All I heard was about the speaker patents and the nearfield listening experience. Some of the speakers and gear really look nice and would make an impression in a HT or 2 channel setup. If anyone is in Dayton, Ohio stop by Hanson for some fun.
  23. Getting a BD player like samsung come with the DNLA, internet radio, Pandora and other media. All you need is an avr to hook it up. BD players are very inexpensive and you upgrade your video ability. Most have a pretty good DAC.
  24. I have the Klipsch HD 500 that I have can sell. Cosmetically and functionally a 10/10. $250 shipped. I had thes as a second HT but no longer need them. This system sounds great and the sub is great for a small to medium size room.
